you could always back up the database via dbattach then snapshot the server.

the sims2008 is the instance not the database you should be able connect to the instance via slq management and make the changes.

have a look on ebay for some old servers, i picked up a hp dl380 g5 for just over £50 with 2 quad core xeons, ram is pretty cheap and it has 8 slots i've got 24gb in mine and it uses 2.5" sas drives which are about £20 each. makes a nice vm setup, i've got two dc,s and and exchange server running on mine.

what switches are you using? port security is an option. it wirks on mac addresses so if a user unpluggs a pc to plug their laptop in it either disables the port or ignores the laptop that's plugged in, i know hp and cisco support this not too sure about other brands

another thing to note is to use 32 bit versions of office, Microsoft recommend it :-) if you use sims.net some of the timetable/cover reports won't work as they still use 16bit programs, there are newer ones that work but don't quite look the same.

ipconfig is run on the local pc to show ip address information, i can't see how the isp is blocking something like that. i could understand them blocking traceroute and ping. what command are they asking you to run?

you can create backups within Sims too using system manager, always advisable before making any big changes.

See if it boots to recovery mode. I had similar problem turned out to be the hdd.

there was a stand at bett selling Virtually indestructible headphones (have the name at home) they were selling what looked like very good mice, difficult to pull buttons off and braided cable.

For the most part, the sims learning gateway is read only. as far as i can see you cannot edit student details etc although you can view info and take registers, reports, marksheets, behaviour and achievements. No facility to group email that i know of. PM me if you want more info we've had it running for a while now.

Its normal behaviour for windows since vista. I think there is a way of disabling it via registry key. Something to do with reducing network and server load.

Glad im not the only one having those fail. We bought some buffalo usb wifi cards and they work well. they stick out of the usb port by about 5mm.

you're not alone, We had the same issues the agent guid's were correct but the paths and ports had changed to the default of localhost:9999. Either manual editing the files or uninstalling the agent and reinstalling worked for us although not much fun either way.
