I'm look for Network Diagramming Software
SimpleSi replied to SimpleSi's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Would someone mind uploading a net diagram done in dia and pm me a link as I could do with a bit of help to show how to use it - e.g can't see easy way of showing patch panel -> switch connections Simon -
Due to a faulty cable/connector in one of my schools I had to disconnect EVERYTHING from the network and plug it all back again. I took the opportunity to scribble all the points and where they were and where they went to but I'd now like to make the info look nice and maintainable for the poor person who takes over from me if/when me and the head have a falling out Now what I want is to have a logical diagram (e.g switch - switch - classroom) type diagram AND one superimposed on school physical layout but I don't want to maintain two separate systems for this. is there something out there (for free of course) that I can use for this? Simon

I just wish they'd get it working through proxies Simon

I've a teacher whoes brought their own Mac into school - no problem with that - but it seems to have an aversion to going on Google or Google ????? All other sites I can test (BBC etc) work fine - Bing works but Google - no!!! She says its fine at home Any clues as to what might be causing this? I know little about these pretty toys Simon

Yup, don't waste any more time on them, time to wave them good bye

Turns out your modern Win7 is very good at working on a LAN without an IP Address being assigned but doesn't like to go on the internet very well I forgot that our admin computers don't have a DHCP server and swapped a laptop from wired to wireless without sticking a static one in. Took me 30 mins and trying a lot of google solutions before the penny dropped when one search dared suggest that my IP Gateway address might me wrong Plonker! Simon

Sometimes I'm lucky - sometimes not - I remember last time I tried FMS on Win7 64 - I wasn't I've got sims installed (followed an LEA guide) But now I'm wondering which of the setup/batch files lying around in the s:\sims folder I should run to get FMS installed Any suggestions greatly welcomed (last time I did this and got it wrong - I ended up wiping windows and starting again Simon

And any other RBC who has a naughty teenager that calls another teenager name s Simon
-
Well after a few emails between me and the Scratch team, their attitude is safety first and if some teenager hijacks anothers account and calls someone names then they feel best way is to block their IP and if that means that the whole of CLEO is blocked - so be it They did suggest that I track down the culprits Really, really need the downloadable 2.0 version to get away from all this Simon
-
jsut got this message Anyone else in CLEO getting it ? This was when I tried to login not just visiting the site Simon
-
A mate of mine is developing a python webserver to serve HTML 5 pages to IOS devices to let them act as sensors/controllers for Scratch programs which effectivley means that a local machine is running a webserver. What's you big boys and girls attidutude towards this running just for each logon session - not as a continouos service on desktops/laptops? Obviously not an issue at all in primaries (until we start teaching them to build web apps of course:) ) Simon

Grade 7 History does not count as valid qualifications though! Some of us would be in BIG trouble if people started asking about qualifications! Simon Graduate of the University Of Life (up to age 53.99 at the present moment) -
There I am, working away setting up 9 new teacher classroom Win7 machines - virtualising old XP ones to run inside of them so that they can use all ancient progs that we've lost the discs for - nice job for the half-term Come to machine number 4 - plug a mouse into it - spends 5 mins searching for a driver (!!!!!) and then mouse doesn't work (it works fine on old XP machine and old mouse works fine on new machine) Well -we gcan live with that one Computer no 6 old virtualxp machine does a core dump when I try and attach an external USB drive to copy files from old virtual to new real one!! Keeps us in jobs I suppose Simon

My problem is probably going to be billing as I got my 02 broadband on the back of having an 02 mobile contract - I'll have to start checking all the bills to make sure "Sky" don't charge me twice Simon
-
I was an 02 broadband customer and they've sold out to Sky. Sky sent me a letter inviting me to not wait for the 02 technical changeover but to move to them early with a cheap deal for 12 months etc etc. OK I said. Well I get alternate emails - one from "Sky" saying nice to have you on board - router on its way - changeover has happened - plug it it - all should be well And then there are the other emails from "Sky" (the old 02 broadband dept) saying - what you doing? leaving us??? come back - don't move -- BT have cut off you phone line - we are going to bill you for the remaining months on the contract And then a little rider on the bottom of the email from "Sky" saying that if I'm joining "Sky" - then ignore the email. Fun and games! Simon

I this possible - e.g use a Google Docs Presentation as a simple auto scrolling info display? Either the current version of Google Docs is radically different to the instructions that I can fins via google search or things have changed since they were written. Or maybe I can't see the right settings button! Simon

[ipad] Apps that don't play with AppleTV or Airserver
SimpleSi replied to SimpleSi's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Just unlucky that the one we wanted to use first didn't do it then? In assembly. With whole school watching. With me on end of phone trying to remote diagnose the "fault" Anyone got a list of apps that won't work? Simon -

SimpleSi replied to SimpleSi's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Oh well - yet another avenue of pleasure denied to me using IPads I suppose I'll need to compose a list of what will work and what won't Funny how all the people saying how great AppleTV is failed to mention this "little" issue Simon -
Congratulations to you and your bride-to-be Send us a postcard Simon

[ipad] Apps that don't play with AppleTV or Airserver
SimpleSi posted a topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Ok -next problem with IPads Got Apple TV in one school on a couple of classrooms - I ran up the Morfo app and the mirroring to the AppleTV dropped out - is there a generic fix for this or do some apps not allow themselves to be mirrored At another school, a teacher using Airserver said the same thing - some things work - some don't What's the deal with mirroring? Simon
