Any primary schools out there doing 3D printing?
SimpleSi replied to rjm30's topic in Educational Software
I have used Google Sketchup with Year 5s and I know that I can translate sketches into 3D printer compatible files as I did one once and sent it to a fellow geek to print on his printer so I think that we be OK with an open-source type printer. I think I need to get out and actually see a few in action before rushing into buying but its a new concept for primaries so some risks got to be taken If it doesn't work out - I'll buy it off em for 50% of price Simon -

Nah - the chips have counters in them - they don't actually check print levels - they just give you so many prints and then say good-night Like I say - I've done a swap between schools so OK this time in that respect -

Just had an interesting email from a company that is quite detrimental over the E70 (old, prone to failure, difficult to get fixed) that has not been echoed by anyone here so unless someone neutral comes out to support them, I'm going for the E70 As they used to say in the old days - no-one gets fired for buying IBM Simon -

So apart from sound (which isn't an issue as already got amplified speakers in place) they are fine Thanks people. I've had a test of the Alphatouch (factory is 2 mile from my house - its seemed fine but E70 coming in from my normal installer a few hundred cheaper for slight bigger display so going to go it for my first foray into the new world Simon -

This is to replace existing smart board/speaker setup so I'll just stick with the original speakers then -

Is it? Is that why the price is the same as the others (I'm sure when I looked in the past it was MUCH more expensive than equivalents from others) Is there a technical reason for it going EOL or just bringing out new product (like all manufacturers do - and new ones only stand 50/50 chance of being actually better than old ones so not too bothered about that Under severe time pressure here and just making sure no lemon being bought Simon -
Any recommendations from people who've actually got one in a school (or have one at home they think would be suitable for a primary school)? Simon

There may be a bit of mis-reporting by the utility

Just tried Insync Looks to be just a method of better using Google Drive and not a cloud drive unfortunately Simon

Thanks for all the replies Amazon looks a bit pricy (but since they give a free trial I may try it) Just tried ExpanDrive on a school server (Only $50 one user license) 5* for my level of simplicity Let me map Z drive to a dropbox account (not the normal one on this server that used for teacher file sharing) Properties say I have 14.5 TB available BUT won't let me share it out over the network Now maybe a bit of trickiery with hard links might work????? but at least it could be useful for server use as it offered a lot of cloud services to utilise Simon

I just joined the club today but can't make the meeting next week unfortunately but looking forward to the 2nd one Simon

I'd like to add more storage to a server I don't want to add a bigger drive I just want to rent cloud space and add it to my server as a virtual drive Does this exist for little people like me? Simon

And the killer for me was that I just downloaded and ran the Scratch 1.4 windows installer - and voila - Scratch on a pad

I couldn't get onto the app store yesterday in one school Just tried at today's school and now working Maybe a blip? Simon

We just bought my daughter a present - for getting her degree - proud parents She chose a 2in1 HP Split X2 over a straight laptop/IPad (her choice) And she loves it She is praising the way the touch screen works (and only slight moan over no start button) - it works fast and seems to do everything it says on the packet. When in tablet mode - its much bigger and heavier than an IPad so not quite as portable but for sitting on the sofa and multitasking (watching rubbish TV/Facebooking/buying clothes online) then the screen size is perfect - no more pinching and zooming. My only concern is the physical robustness of the inter-connector (so I took out the extended warrant just in case!) if these things are made cheap and well enough (this one cost £500) then MS might make be able to fight the IPad in the educational field Simon

Excellent.can you write it for others?
