3 months is a long time when you want to leave and have a new job lined up 3 months is a short time if you are dismissed and you need to find a new job You are lucky that you are in position 1 but you can see that you'd need the 3 months if in position 2 Employers need to look after their businesses /schools as much as you need to look after yourself Common courtesy in schools is to give a terms notice in any school role (Which is about 3 months!) SimpleSi Journey Into IPads in Primaries
SimpleSi replied to SimpleSi's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Your new here aren't you? ANd not dealt with me much before? This is IPads out of the box - I've got some sort of magic charging/syncing box coming but no idea how to use it yet - do you think this will sort the problem out - just get one updated and then the magic sync box will sort it out for me- that'd be very nice! Sorry should have said - what does that load of twaddle mean on the airserver website - what does it ACTUALLY do and do I need it! Si -
What is airserver - where is it installed - I'm assuming its a mirroring product but which way does it mirror (if it does at all - maybe its a file sharer!) Simon

Well, one of my schools is having delivered 15 pads for class use and 6 for teacher use so I'm now emabrking on using them in schools for real (in all other cases I've had one or 2 either just for headteacher/slt to use on Facebook at home) or in Foundation as tools to do the EYFS profile. But now we are on for real. So I aim to document my journey and ask all the silly questions that I'm famous for to save others having to face the embarrassment of doing so. Anyway - first thing I discovered is that I don't have to take device home any more to set one up originally because of proxy issues. When setting one up from the packet it doesn't give you option of choosing a proxy setting and therefore fails BUT if you press the little button then you get a menu that allows you to go into the full wifi settings and then we are off to the races. But may be not It still seems that some sort of blocking is occuring (this in Lancs CLEO Land) when it comes to doing IOS updates. I can download the update but it will not verify the update when I am on the schools network- as soon as I switched to using my 'droid hotspot then it did verify and carried on with update. This happened on both IPod and IPad devices. Since all devices I'm pulling out of the packet need this doing - its a bit of bind Simon PS Links to stuff (already buired in here on Edugeek or elsewhere) on using IPads as both teacher tools and learning devices for primaries greagfully received. I would like this thread to be about practical issues rather than (I wouldn't have wasted money on them etc )

Mr Toshiba has decided that Fn primary functions are now secondary and that the alternate ones are now the primary ones, it took me quite a while to work out what was going on!

Inspector is working from suite so set up new server for logmein just in case Got Luke at Millgate to postpone the delivery of 22Ipads and 15 laptops that was coming! Extra ink should be here tomorrow. 1 prob - 1 class machine not connecting to network (they say it just happened today but I don't believe in co-incidences!) - socket is un-labelled so no real way of fault finding without a lot of pulling out of wires so I'm just going to bring one of my Raspberry Pi wifi dongles in tomorrow and get in on the network that way Just going to uppack and setup the new printer that I was going to do in the hols as it'll give me a colour printer bacjup in case my venerable HP2605 decides to die tomorrow! Its about staying at the school being Ofstedded supporting them for the next 2 days means I have to scupper plans at others Just completed task 1 - did the run to the chip shop for sausage chips and gravy for everyone - I know my role Actually, we'd got a new server in as old one was being dodgy - last week I set up the new server and VM convertered the d one onto a portable drive and guess what happened today - yep - old one died at 10am - dead as a dodo this time ! I restored the old server as a VM on the new server and I've awarded the Montgomery Scot award by the headteacher Si

I used to but no longer do. I was one of the oldies who "changed down" in life and took a tech job paying peanuts just to stop my wife from saying |when are you going to get a job again" But I've risen up the scales (said bye to a few schools - said hello to a few schools) and now I'm actually sought after (10 years in the job mind) and get paid Net Manager/HLTA pay. Youngsters have come along and took the jobs as part-time techys and are now Net Managers or living the high life down in London with Domino, troibleshooting around the globe on 100K a year So, as with everything, start at the bottom, work hard and move on up and if they won't move up up, move out and go somewhere else Si
