Adblock is on all of the netbooks here. I've heard that it's a memory hog recently, but it hasn't affected us really. I think that's getting fixed, too. I honestly couldn't imagine not using it wherever possible in schools. The kids are allowed to go on game sites during their after school club here and some of the ads on those sites that make it through the firewall have contained nudity or malicious clickbait in the past. Combine that with kids clicking sponsored links and game ads that aren't related to what they're doing... You can add exceptions for sites that you feel need it (on-demand services, etc. 4oD?) so I'd just roll it out with whatever settings you would like for sites that they commonly use. I haven't ever noticed a false positive that hasn't been user-defined. I'd definitely make sure to disable the option where the blocking tab pops up on every flash and javascript object, though. I've had to sort out staff laptops for "it broke my Candy Crush!" because of wandering cursors.

I used to have a photo of the Rottweiler on the sofa with the rabbit curled up under his neck, but I lost it a long time ago after I moved out.

My mother's Yorkie is mentally disturbed after five years of abuse before she was rescued. We've had her for maybe 2 years now and she is either asleep when she's barking/making sounds or doing either incredibly well or badly that day. She hates to look at people, but is upset when she is left alone. The only times she perks up when my mum isn't with her is when she is with the one other dog she knows (my Nan's). She runs away from other dogs, but she starts following her around, sniffing and growling an acting like a "normal" dog. There's also one of my cats that she gets along with, whereas the other two don't like dogs. We catch the cat sleeping on top of her sometimes. Animal interactions are absolutely incredible between species when they get along. I had a housemate at one point with the biggest Rottweiler I've ever seen and he would try to play with, luck and cuddle my pet rabbit.

I don't think anybody who owns a cat could believe that cats don't have a sense of loyalty. I'm a blossoming crazy cat lady in the making, though... Three cats with all very different personalities. One of them fell out of a second storey window once and ran off out of shock, and his mum ran out the back door and brought him back within ten minutes. I had a nasty infection once and passed out climbing stairs because of it and fell down the whole set. When I woke up I was bleeding from the impact slightly and my cats woke my mum up crying and jumped on her bed! Oh god I sound crazy. I'm not crazy.

I wouldn't wish my last name upon any poor soul, but at the same time I wouldn't want to lose it! Double-barrelled for me, if I liked the ring of it.

I actually broke up with a woman I was on a third date with because she kept calling guys who she didn't like that.

The reason I said I'd be offended by that is because it implies I'm old(er than I am!), not because of any hatred for men.

Well, I have no idea how this tangent started and I'm slightly disappointed that it didn't end after "positive discrimination is bad and feminists are not those people I see calling guys dudebros".

I feel like this is a good time to point out that the original topic was not about feminism and that a couple of glorified blog writers for a tabloid disguised as a newspaper are not a spokesperson for the equality movement. It seems like a good idea to sway the thread from this endless argument over semantics.

Half the staff can't even remember my last name and call me my first name in front of their classes all the time. It's really annoying but only because it leads to the kids forgetting what my name is because they don't want to call me by my first name or call me Ant Hill. Which means I'm forever The Computer Lady... And at 19, I'd be kind of insulted if they called me Ma'am or Mrs!

My college reached out to schools, you should do the opposite. Find out who heads the IT support courses and see if their leavers are interested. They know their students better than any company.

There was a similar thread asking for recommendations before a while ago and someone posted this. I ended up buying that and I am definitely pleased with it so far (2 months?). It carries my toolkits, USBs, laptop and personal stuff like makeup, books and handhelds all at the same time while feeling way lighter than messenger bags I used before. Depends on whether you like the look of it or not for the last part.

I wish I could see past all this consumerism. The bins are full.

My Grandparents and Great-grandparents' names are on the at risk one. The Lizzie one is a bit silly to list, because there's tonnes of Elizabeths that just shorten it. Same with Jennie. The origin of my name's on there, but I doubt Mary will ever disappear.

I was planning on going for the weekend LAN, but my friend I was going with got dragged into being on call the entire weekend. Can't bring myself to go without him (... plus he has the car), so I had to cancel. Have fun! lucky jerks.....

Got 40 Grifin Survivors here. They're fantastic, can't recommend them any more. Not a scratch after a few careless teachers and I once jokingly hit my mate round he head with one. iPad was fine, he wasn't.

Lil' B. har har But seriously, I've used instrumental game soundtracks a few times. Managed to sneak in Silent Hill and System Shock 2 amongst Super Meat Boy and Minecraft before. Edit: Ooh! Ooh! Lucasart games soundtracks! I ripped my Sam and Max Hit the road CD and have it for assemblies too...

Accidentally celebrated, it seems. Backed up my work and writing to a new memory stick and restored a teacher's (already backed up, of course, what kind of idiot do I take them for?) lost work.

His message comes across in a badly condescending way and could do with a rewrite to say the least, and his personal anecdotes related to his own failings are all silly. "I fix the computers in my house and never bothered to tell the kids how, look at how awful society is today!" That being ignored, I've noticed this a lot. Parents and teachers are all too quick to say "Oh, my kids are great on their iPads and phones. They tap and click away faster than I ever could." So what? What are they learning by doing that? I've seen kids who tap at monitors expecting the button to press and not in the slightest way knowing how to use a mouse or keyboard. I've seen a year 1 teacher who has all of her kids use a keyboard correctly to type their usernames and passwords and a year 3 teacher whose kids didn't know how to save an image. He definitely has a point when he says that things are too locked down, even if it is blunt and incorrect in areas regarding android and others. But I don't think it's easy to point the blame at the locked down systems themselves and their manufacturers. It's not their fault that consumers have no interest in learning the skills. I'd say teh fault mostly lies with the people pushing for kids to exclusively use these. Just another reason why I'm objecting to the Head wanting to get rid of the ICT Room and replace it with iPads because "nobody uses it". Because they don't know how!
