  1. Thanks for your advice. I think what I am also trying to get as is could we adopt Google Classroom side by side with our current infrastructure? Or would it make sense to move Exchange and Office apps to Google Suite?
  2. Our new principle is pushing for Google Classroom. Our whole infrastructure is Windows with teachers using laptops and roaming profiles. Our classrooms have teacher PCs connected to projectors and SMART boards. Getting Google involved in the mix doesn't seem backwards at all, but seems like we would have to drop 95% of our Windows clients and Servers. Questions: 1. What happens to AD, Roaming profiles etc? I have never used a Chromebook before so not sure how they work. 2. What happens to the 100+ Windows applications our teachers and support staff rely on. ProSolution MIS, Exchange, Odd Science apps, OFFICE!? I'm sure there are 101 things I haven't considered but you get the point.. Comments appreciated.
  3. We've had up to 7 FT technicians at our college. We currently have me (NW Manager FT) and 3 FT 1st Apprentices. We are soon going to be introducing a managed service provider so look after all 2nd and 3rd like network and server related calls. We have approx 250 staff and 1250 students. Staff here are too used to technicians dealing with an issue straight away we couldn't possibly allow them to wait a day or two. We need technicians to deal with simple IT things such as cabling, moving kit, turning a projector on and adjusting the volume. What is wrong with teachers!?
  4. We want to monitor BYOD activity, I.e Google searches, visited sites etc.
  5. Hey guys, SLT are asking about monitoring of BYOD devices. Not just filtering but actually seeing what students and staff are viewing on their personal devices. They want to know web searches and websites students have viewed. Is this even possible? We have NetSupport DNA but this only monitoring domain PCs and Laptops, unless I'm wrong. Thanks
  6. Thanks for your reply but from what I understand NK2 files are based on Outlook cache only. The issue is the same with using OWA. Some how one email went to the recipient... since then nothing. EDIT: Seems like Office 365 isn't receiving any emails from my Exchange server. Even if I send to [email protected] but emails are received from Gmail.
  7. Although the sync completed ages ago, some how its now working.. New post: Staff Exchange not sending to student Office 365 emails.. would appreciate any suggestions http://www.edugeek.net/forums/enterprise-software/175529-internal-exchange-emails-not-sending-student-office-365-addresses.html#post1503783
  8. Staff onsite Exchange 2010 emails: [email protected] Student Office 365 emails: [email protected] Students can send and receive from external addresses, i.e Gmail.com/Outlook.com Students can send to Staff Exchange email address, i.e [email protected] But when Staff email from their Exchange addresses to Student Office 365 emails, the students don't receive the emails. Can't be DNS as Students receive emails from external addresses. I'm thinking it must be something Exchange is doing with the emails as it can see they are from the same domain but doesn't expect them to be received from an external server maybe. Suggestions? Ty
  9. Yes I did this and it fix a lot of weird things but still not the from email address. I'll phone MS tomorrow and confirm some things with them.
  10. Works great thank you. Something very odd is happening though. 2 users, same UPN, same STMP:[email protected] but one send from the correct email and the other sends from domain.onmicrosoft.com.... Any suggestions? Both are set as [email protected] for the primary email address in O365.
  11. If you haven't modified any settings on the Firewall then im pretty sure 100% this is the issue. What I done for my RDS remotely was get a static IP from my ISP. I then forwarded RD.domain.ac.uk to this IP address on DNS. I then made a NAT rule on my firewall to point all traffic from the internal RD server IP to the IP address the ISP gave me. Essentially when you enter the DNS name externally, it forwards to the internal address.
  12. I got it working... i was using SMTP@ and then email address. It should have been SMTP: The next thing is changing the logon email address. It is syncing the logon username from ADSync but I was the default username to be the students primary email address for simplicity. How do I change students logon users from [email protected] to [email protected]? EDIT: Update the Username with the same domain as the student primary email address in bulk.
  13. Hey I done exactly on the post and it ran successfully but my changes from AD aren't in the cloud. Any other suggestions? Ty
  14. Sounds like firewall to me. Check you've NATed.
  15. We use charge and sync cases. There cheap and small so easy to carry and move. We use 16GB here but don't have many apps. Cases we use are thick foam padded things. As for MDM we use Meraki
  16. I've manually added the email address to proxyaddresses in AD for the user but nothing has changed on Office 365. I've ran a force sync from the Azure software too. Also: How do I change students logon users for Office 365 from [email protected] to [email protected]? Thank you.
  17. I have the domain @stu.xxx.ac.uk verified in Office 365. Is there a way to deploy to straight to the users already in Office 365? Also the default email address in Office 365 is set to xxx.ac.uk but the email sends from [email protected], any idea?
  18. We have Office 365 Education Plus for Students but not for Faculty. What is the difference if I apply the Students license to staff users? How do I target student users in Office 365 to apply a specific email address for them? i.e @stu.xxx.ac.uk I have set up Azure AD Connect to sync onsite AD with Office 365. I want to eventually setup Microsoft Classroom once everyone is used to using Office 365 apps and tools. Any answers, suggestions or links are highly appreciated. Thanks
  19. Hi all, I'm rebuilding images at the moment and wondering whether to use Enterprise or Professional. Currently all our devices are Professional. Is there any advantage of going with Enterprise over Professional? Thank you.
  20. What internet service do you have?
  21. Hi all, Two directors have been battling for some years now and it has finally come to the surface that the director in charge of the MIS/Data will be the new director for IT and will merge the two departments together. I am head of IT and cannot see the positives of this. Neither can the head of MIS. Have any of your schools done something similar with IT?
  22. You may mind this odd, I do. I cannot locate any KMS server on the network. I've looked at DNS and gone to where it supposedly is but can't find any toolkit. I've installed the KMS console on the server and see no keys. I have no idea where Win 7 and Office is being licensed from. We don't sysprep our machines before Sccm deployment. Once a machine joins the domain and restarts, Windows and Office is active. I know we have licenses because our MVLS is packed with keys and costs us 40k annually. I just don't know where the machines license from!
  23. From what I've seen and read so far, O365 and Microsoft Classroom is totally free and offers 1TB OneDrive space per user....
  24. Hi all, We have the traditional Exch 2010 and file server onsite. I'm looking at the option of moving into O365 for full staff and student email services and using OneDrive for student storage. Does anyone have any recommendations on something similar they do and how it works? Ive never used either. Thanks
  25. Hi all, The biggest request we hear from staff and students is to access their shares and emails from home. We have OWA set up but no share access. Any suggestions?? We have a very minimal Moodle setup but looking at a full VLE revamp.
