  1. South. I would want someone here to go through the process with me.. plus management want to see the person they are paying it seems..
  2. The idea is having someone here for up to 12 months to design, plan, test and deploy the project will be working along side me to do it.. I will be following the process the whole way. I could probably get official training and cert from my COO later down the line anyway.
  3. This is really useful to consider. I thought 12 months would be a good base so we can ensure everything is fully tested and we can deploy to a small test group and slowly roll out to all devices. My biggest daily battle are roaming profiles and I would like to get rid of them with this roll out. I don't think 2-3 days is enough. Could you recommend a solutions provider? Thank you!
  4. Not sure if this is in the right topic, but you guys will probably have the right answers. I'm a lone Sysadmin for a college (1500 users/900 devices) currently running Win 7 with roaming profiles for staff, mandatory for students. I'm in the deep end with a lot of things but manage day to day. I had a discussion with my COO about moving to Windows 10 and changing the way staff and student profiles are. He offered to get me trained but I have declined the offer and suggested hiring a deployment specialist on a 12 month contract to complete the project. He has asked me to create a JD for this role but not too sure exactly what I need to put in. Question: What skill sets would you expect someone who will perform a full Win 7 to Win 10 site migration to have? I currently run MDT with WDS and WSUS, although never successfully deployed an image with it. Currently cloning hard drives when required. Thanks! EDIT Between working time on this project, they can also help with day to day errands of the department. As he/she will be physically onsite, they will go through the project design, plan, testing and deployment with me so I will get trained at the same time.
  5. Hi all, We're being offered 10 years for the cost of 5 years for our Meraki WiFi license. With the cost savings it means if we keep the service for 3 years or more, we're saving money. My concern is the change in technology with WiFi over the next 3 years and if I'm buying into a service I would want to change next year or the year after. Have there been any significant changes to WiFi technology lately? Thanks.
  6. I need to put a plan in on when is best to run the updates. Default is 3am, but all clients shut down at 7pm. How are you guys doing it? Thanks
  7. Hi all, I'm creating a thin image for Windows 7 on MDT (very new to MDT and thin images). How are you able to achieve a default profile which doesn't prompt the user for first time run on non-Windows software when you are doing application installs during deployment? Thanks!
  8. We use onsite ManageEngine, the prices are fairly good now days if you just want the standard bits. You can either have it hosted. I think under 5 techs is free too.
  9. MDT task sequence occurs way before the PC is on the domain to pick up the GPO
  10. Hi all, It seems that MDT isn't picking updates from WSUS. My WSUS install is very new so I am not sure what should be set on it to ensure MDT can pick up updates. I have set an Automatic Approval rule for updates to Unassigned Computers but the TS during my install just says 'Searching for updates' and then restarts my PC. It doesn't seem to actual install updates. How can I check if this is the case? Thanks
  11. Thank you everyone for your input! I have added an edit to the first post with some more questions.. Is this what teachers feel like when they ask you to turn the projector on? :S
  12. MDT Guy really comforted my concerns. Great share thank you.
  13. I've seen the guides mentioned but they are generic in installing the roles with basic configuration. I'm looking for a dumbed down version with something along the lines of: MDT is this and does this and you would use it in this situation etc. Thanks all for chipping in.
  14. Hi all, I've tried to setup SCCM, WDS, MDT but always getting issues while trying to do deployments. I'm getting to the point where I feel hopeless and want to give up and use a paid deployment product. Does anyone have an end to end guide on MDT/WDS install, configure, image build/capture and deployment for a typical school scenario. Thank you! EDIT 28/06/17: Thank you everyone for your support. This is my current status: 1. MDT 2013 U2/WDS/WSUS are installed 2. I am building a thin reference image with TS to Install W7, install some basic Windows Updates and features, Install IE11 and run fall updates from WSUS. (I never knew this is what should have been done, I have been trying to capture and deploy a thick image per PC model) Question - Now my reference image is built, what do I do? lol. Do I add custom applications to MDT and add them to the TS? Do I need to create a new TS with my new reference image .wim file and add the custom applications to that to deploy to PCs? What do I do about drivers for all my different PC models? How do I specify what drivers go to what model PC?
  15. Hello, I've built a new image on a PC and joined it to the domain. I've logged in with a user who has a roaming profile but it doesn't pull everything as expected. The start menu isn't being redirected, the background hasn't changed, user has access to the C: Any idea why or what to check? I copied a default profile from another working image and pasted it into C:\Users just in case, but this didn't make a difference. Thank you. EDIT: I uninstalled a security hotfix and it resolved my issue: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3163622/ms16-072-security-update-for-group-policy-june-14,-2016
  16. Hi all, An ICT teacher has asked me to installed MySQL in his IT suite for the students to create their own DBs. There are a number of issues with this including lack of Admin rights that students have etc. Does anyone know of an alternative software or browser based service which can emulate a creation of a DB? Thanks
  17. How did you separate the profiles for users which would log into both Win 7 and 10 clients? Thanks for your reply.
  18. Hello, We are currently running a domain with Windows 7 clients. What is the best way to introduce Windows 10 clients on to the domain and ensure profiles, GPOs etc. all work as expected? How did you do this? Thanks
  19. There's an iPad app which costs $50 a month and is a self service system. The use enters their name and takes a photo of them self. When it's done it prints a custom badge via a wireless printer. http://maxcorso.wixsite.com/receptionsignin

  21. Is your profile path %username or %username%? can you show the permissions for the security group on that share?

  23. Hi all, I'm looking at different options to move forward and away from the roaming profile and classroom teacher PC set up. What do you use in your schools for staff and student profiles, devices and classroom teacher PC devices? Thank!
  24. Thank you all for the feedback. Do you all still use Exchange or completely gmail? With the new Microsoft Classroom being available, it seems rather crazy to go with Google... our students our already using Office 365
