  1. Hi all, The DPO wants to separate student and staff email addresses in the GAL. I understand I can create a new Address List for each, but the GAL will still show all users in all address lists. I could create a new GAL with just staff, but this will completely remove students from it. Is there a way to cleanly do this? Thanks
  2. It's been raised as a concern because students are able to search for things like 'How to make a bomb'. Do you allow or block youtube for students? Thanks
  3. No single file server with shares. No replication to anywhere.
  4. Thanks for your feedback. I don't think it relates to the issue we have as students are confident they are saving in their H drives only and the data is recoverable on DPM.
  5. That's a good suggestion. I will look into that. We have both redirected file server for My Documents and OneDrive.
  6. Hi all, We've had this issue for a few weeks now. Streams of students are coming to IT because some of their files have either gone missing, or have reverted to old versions so some work is missing within the document. We use DPM to backup our student files, so we are able to restore them but we need to figure out why this is happening. Example of a file which reverted its changes: Ticket logged 08/10 for a file with missing pages. Student states the document was last modified 04/10. My Documents shows the file was last modified 20/09. Checking DPM backup on 08/10 (same morning issue was reported) the document version was last modified 04/10 with all the missing pages in the document. It appears the document that morning reverted back to a previous version. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Thanks
  7. That's really helpful info thanks. Our student PCs are pentium with 4GB RAM and normal HDDs. Not sure a VM will work very well with those specs! I'll speak to the curriculum leader about they expectations next year.
  8. Interesting. Does it not cause an issue having several instances of VirtualBox accessing the same VHD file at once? What are you planning to do next year now you need internet access?
  9. Interesting setup. Did you follow a guide or have any resources to point me in the right direction? I assume the student loads VirtualBox after they log into the lab PC and it has a restricted view so they can only run the single VM and nothing else. Where does the vhd sit? Thanks
  10. Hi all, Our ICT teachers are requesting a number of applications for students to access next year in IT Suites, including Python, MySQL and PHP tools. I'm concerned giving students access to a Python console could allow them to tinker and cause damage. I'm also not sure how to offer MySQL access as I believe this needs to run as a service on the device? When I was in college we had a lab with two desktops per student, one on the domain and other off the domain with these tools installed. How do you manage these applications? Thanks
  11. Not sure we qualify for K-12 licensing. We are a Sixth Form College
  12. I prefer device license as it prevents having to create student Adobe ID accounts and dealing with the hassle of password resets and students having to log into their account after looking into the device. Device license required minimum 25 order.
  13. I'm just going by the Adobe website, I haven't spoken to resellers yet. - - - Updated - - - Thanks. Haven't used this company before but the site looks shady. Doesn't give much detail when you click for details lol
  14. We need to license over 100 devices used in various classroom and labs. Adobe now charge £278 per device per year for device licenses. Does anyone know of a scheme or method to reduce this cost? Thanks
  15. You're a star. Worked perfect!!
  16. Hi all, I'm experiencing an issue which only affects users the first time they log in to a new device which they don't have a local profile on. A small window appears as soon as they sign in saying 'windows could not create the shortcut. check to see if the disk is full first log in'. I have checked event viewer but there doesn't seem to be any entry for it. I can't pinpoint where this is coming from. We have a redirected desktop GPO for users, with share permissions restricting users putting anything on the desktop but I can't see why this would cause this error as nothing should be creating a shortcut at first log on. We don't have this error message on Win7 clients with the same redirection GPO applied. Thanks
  17. We've always blocked the Microsoft Store since offering Windows 10 but some staff have requested we enable it to allow them to install apps themselves. Is there anything immediately I should be concerned about with enabling the Microsoft Store and what are the best practices with offering it? Thanks
  18. For me, the papercut numbers didn't transact it accurately. However replacing it with the original MiFare card number did work.
  19. Hi all, We've been having issues with popups lately on our iMacs. The devices are unmanaged. Students log into a generic local standard account on the iMacs. Unfortunately they are getting trashed and a number of them have popups now. Is there a way to manage how Chrome works on unmanaged devices? Or a suitable MDM to manage them 'properly'? We have Jamf for iPads. I've just never looked into managing Mac devices with it. Thanks
  20. I tried to delete the key but it never worked. I then tried to delete it manually to test it would work but it failed with an error. I haven't tried to resolve the error yet as I've been doing other tasks.
  21. JAMF PRO. Apple use it themselves and Jamf gets first day rollout support (they are ready for iOS updates from the first day of release). It's dead easy to use, works a charm and only costs £9 per iPad per year for education.
  22. Evening all, Has anyone used or seen a self service device or system to allow users to reset their AD password? Would be great to minimise foot traffic in the office. Thanks
  23. Hi all, Doing some reading discovers Adobe CC 2019 will only support named-user licensing. They are scrapping device licenses. How does this work if we have 20 students and staff who need to access the software on 60 different computers? At the moment one IT group could be using 3 or 4 different IT suites, requiring the software across all those devices. If I purchase 20 named-user licenses, how could I student use any of the 60 devices he/she has access to? Thanks!
  24. I'm in the process of upgrading from CS5 to CC due to migrating to Windows 10. It sucks that user licensing is only two activations. I would have expected to be able to install the suite across the site, and users log in to CC desktop prior to being able to launch an app from within it. Upon login, Adobe could check if that user is using the license on another device. We have 22 IT suites with so many classroom moves and timetable changes, it'll be impossible for us to not install it everywhere to ensure students have access to it. I can't see any other way other then buying device licenses for every bloody device.
  25. How did you both redirect the 'Open File Location' to a different folder? I want to stop users getting access to C too! Thanks
