A good place to start might be to find out how many members of staff have electronic copies of the materials they are using to teach to gauge (sp?) the amount of typing required to put it all into the VLE or whether it can be a copy and paste / upload job. At my old school there wasn't a VLE as such, but instead SSL WebDAV access to the public shared area. So that way there was less of a difference between how users accessed files from the network and from home. Less training required that way.

I've just graduated my CCNA1 and am starting CCNA2 this week. A mate bought a joblot of Cisco equipment and ended up with 4 Cisco 2600's so I bought two of them off him for £90. (Bargain, I thought!). I also got a 15m DCE/DTE serial cable and one of the routers has a serial interface in it Aaaannnyway enough side tracking. Does anyone know how I can download the latest IOS for them? One is running V12 and the other V11.3 (i think). I've looked on the CISCO site and tried to download one but my CCO registration doesnt allow me IOS downloads. Any ideas gratefully recieved. Joe

Even if i did want to migrate back off Ubuntu Server i get FREE legal copies of server 2k3 from MSDNAA. My university registers all the students in the FCET (http://www.fcet.staffs.ac.uk) .... which is nice

Telewest are unmetered so it wouldnt matter if you've downloaded 60GBs of stuff....enjoy it...that's what the internet's there for We're going to be sharing the cost of the broadband line...in stafford it's got to be NTL for cable apparently. But it's all owned by Virgin now anyway lol

Yeah, I chose my room based on the fact that it would be where the cable for broadband came in and i wanted to be able to see the router from my desk seeing as I'll be the one who owns all the network equipment and will be funding /that/ little project. It's more an exercise of fun for me than getting internet for the others /me hopes he has enough Cat5e left in the box to do the house.

We disabled it because A, it buggers about with software like NetSupport School and Sophos and B, your proxy server / internet gateway / main firewall or whatever you want to call it should be enough to keep the nasties out from t'internet.

Well at the moment I'm in the university's halls of residence and servers arent allowed. So i've just got my PC which dual boots XP Pro and Debian. Next year i'm moving into a rented house with three mates. My webserver will be moving in with us (Ubuntu Linux) and the house will be cabled (in true heath robinson style) using a standard Wifi cable router, a 24-port switch VLANed so that one VLAN is linked up to the router and the other VLAN is for PS2's when we want to play GT4 over LAN (as it requires that you dont have DHCP running) and an extra WiFi AP on the landing for better roaming on wifi devices. The server will no doubt get music shoved on a SAMBA share and some kind of intranet type thing that links to shares on everyone's PC to access films / music that's not on the server. Something like that. It should be obvious that it's a house full of geeks. One network engineer, one games programmer, one games designer and one applied ICT student.

I use ubuntu server for my linux servers but i use debian testing for my desktop OS (if not using windows). I love aptitude, but not so fond of ubuntu desktop anymore....dont know why :S

I really wouldnt be so sure on that. There's a time and a place for it. If you check some of the other forums like "Interweb things" you'll see they're not crumbling yet! (I know i'm not, i'm at uni) Talking of a time and a place, i really dont think your vendetta against sensible adults should be taken up here...talk to your parents about it and mind the wrinkley ICT techies at the door ready to pelt you with PC-100 and 512MB hard drives!

Well, if your intention is to join the ICT support team you should take note of this. The more maturity you show the more responsibility you are likely to gain. If you cant realise that the purpose of this site is for educational ICT technicians and the like to discuss issues that affect their particular proffession then I dont think you should really be here because you want something like IRC to vent your childish attitude. And the clue is in your last post, view...not post completely unrelated crap! You're not going to revolutionise the relationship between students / staff (dont call support staff teachers, they wont really thank you for it!) by doing what you have done here on EduGeek!

Madragonn, the purpose of this forum is NOT for pupils to post completely unrelated random CRAP! If a member of the senior managment team at your school were to see this they might just take it as a threat to a member of staff, or, as wholey inappropriate behaviour, even if you didnt mean it in that way. I think you need to learn the boundary between student and staff before you continue to loose any dignity you might have and make yourself look like a complete idiot.
