No isapi filters. It does it with plain html files too. We're not using PHP on IIS here. We're refusing to due to only ever having a 50% success rate. That's why the server that currently hosts the files fine is getting deomissioned to become a LAMP server The contracted network engineer is in tommorow so i'll badger him about it. But if you've got any more ideas throw them my way. Personally i'd rather just uninstall IIS and reinstall it so that it's a new blank configuration...but the work from home system that teksys stuck onto the server with zinc oxide plaster tape is on there. And i dont want to break it

using the IP sends it into internet mode but that then tries the AUTH. It's beginning to be a pain in the arse. To have wasted the best part of a day trying to figure out why this bloody thingw wont work has gotten to me. Set up the CA server stuff that comes with windows server 2k3. I find it easiest to create a wildcard cert because it'll be easiest to transfer to your other servers. Eg *.school.org So that would allow you to use it for vle.school.org, exchange.school.org etc

It says intranet. But i tried different combinations of the annonymous and the integrated authentication and nowt doin I'm wondering if it's something to do with the remote file access the school had Teksys (*vomits*) set up for them. If i could append it to IIS on the PDC then i would but as it stands the two main DCs have gone T**s up with the graphics and we cant find any way of fixing them but that's another story. I'm going to try the other BDC tommorow but for today i've had enough and i'm getting a headache

Yeah, i'm running IIS6. Standard with server 2k3 and yeah i get the webpage if i enter valid credentials. But they are my credentials so it's an admin-ish account.

Yeah the NTFS permissions are set to what they should be. The IIS guest account has full read only access. "Everyone" has read only. It's confusing.

OK. This is really beginning to do my head in and i feel it's probably something obvious i've not realised. I've been in the process of moving my Liberum setup from one server to another today so i can decomission the other into a LAMP server for MRBS. I've sucessfully migrated the SQL database. That's no problem. I altered the settings.asp file to reflect the change in server for the database. Now i want to move my web pages for it. I moved the pages and setup IIS and NTFS permissions so that it shouldnt ask me for authentication. It should just give access to everyone and it SHOULD be working for an anonymous user. When i try to access the internal URL for this new location of the web pages it's asking for authentication. I cant see where it's getting this idea from that it should be authenticating the web pages. Any ideas as to what i might have missed??

We have boring names for our servers: dc-1-sfa dc-2-sfa dc-3-sfa inetsrv msexchange contentcache WWW - debian web server (not configured in house so dont blame us for the name!) sv-2-sfa (running on a desktop PC and soon to be decomissioned) ICTMUSICSERVER (plays muzak over the stereo system in the ICT dept ) DONT name your exchange server to what i named ours!!! This because you'll realise exactly what you've done 3 weeks later when the head of ICT questions the naming convention of mmmmm sexchange and starts giving you funny looks in the corridoor! My own machines follow a boring naming convention aswell lt-joedetic - for my laptop joedetic-desktop - for my desktop But my one server is called Jeeves and the mail server that was due to accompany it was called wooster, but i ran out of space so it became my desktop PC. My development server is called Nixon. It runs ubuntu linux so i thought it'd be a fitting name.

I think this'd be the best place to append this. I've got to install MRBS on a LAMP server next week and set it up to work as a resource booking system as opposed to a room booking system (i've seen an example and i liked it). The other alternative is http://booking-dev.centralmanclc.com/ but that never wants to work on my test server. Anyway. How do you all set it up to handle all the staff can log on and book. LDAP auth? Does that work over the internet from behind an ISA server. The idea is that the staff can book resources from home too.

What's this PHP accellerator dooberry about then? How do i go about installing it on an ubuntu box. Is there an apt-get package for it??

As far as PSP goes the rules are NO games in school. I know a few kids use their PSP for transporting files...genuinely! so they have USB cables and do it that way. Wifi to laptops has always been a tricky situation. When we got our new elearning centre a 2-3 years ago, there were about 2 students in upper sixth and myself in lower sixth that wanted laptops on the network. The head of ICT put the wep key in and mapped some shared drives to our user areas etc. That was it along with proxy settings. When it came to put my laptop on we were satisfied with the AV software. Norton 2004 Pro...fully up to date. It went on the network and within about a week of it being there 2 viruses origionating from my laptop were found on the network. From then on the main rule has been that if you've got XP pro then we'll put it on with our own licensed AV software. (SOPHOS) If it's a student loan laptop then it's already a member of the domain...go ahead. Anything else then no. But....certain other members of staff worked out what the wep keys and proxy settings were and added the settings to the students laptops and more people have been using t'internet. Very bad practice, but...that was the year that didnt have the opertunity to loan a laptop with all the software that was a member of the domain. So hopefully we should be OK in future.

There isnt a root account on Ubuntu though...it uses sudo root, so you should be ok (i could be wrong there though)

Debian based distros (Ubuntu is a deb based one) are secure by default (or so i've been lead to believe) but you could try setting up iptables or using shorewall firewall.

And for which i'd suggest Ubuntu Server because it has the option to install a basic LAMP server during the installation

If you cant find anyone to borrow them from http://www.stage-electrics.co.uk/ are always good. They do professional kit for hire. We've always used thim in the past. But then can get a bit expensive and we found that we could only afford to hire the kit for the week of the actual performance making technical run throughs mighty difficult!

Never mind about the ball...steal the whole mouse and use the cord to twirl it above their heads and then release to create a more destructive and expensive projectile
