Make sure the license is valid before you take it into the production environment! If it's donated, was it donated with the documents for the license? I personally wouldnt bother with roaming profiles. If the staff were already using the machines as stand alone's then their settings would be saved as a cached profile on that specific machine (yes??) hence not really worth the roaming profiles.

What about a cleaning cupboard or a store cupboard somewhere. That or the staff room They'll love the ambient "mood noises" of the fans...just call it a replacement for whale music

I always hated the Beta version of live messenger because it would crash a lot and only let me log in with the passport that i registered the download with. So i had to download two copies...one for each passport I'm going to try it and might consider keeping it if it works better this time!

We used to have the DT tech do the pat testing (ages ago) and then the LEA decided that it was biased having someone internal do it and they now come in to do it. All the switches that have been taken out of old cabs as part of our new build didnt have any tested stickers on them, or the IEC leads, so draw whatever conclusions from that you want. Although...all the lighting equipment was tested...even the stuff that had a huge 32Amp blue circular plug thingy on the end, and that was bolted to the wall at the time.

We've decided to go with the MS exchange option because i've got myself a paid job (finally) and it needs to be something that the other techies can manage efficiently. The job is data entry for Carillion in Birmingham for a week so i need to go in tommorow and this wont be finished in time. But they said the contract will lead to other jobs possibly in 1st line ICT support...which is what i'm used to so that'll be nice

I've set up MRBS to ask for the wibind auth as above. It's doing it...it's all setup and asking for authentication. I try to authenticate but it falls over. My questions are: 1/ What do i need to do to the samba users configuration stuff 2/ How do i set access levels of users in AD 3/ Do i need to specify the OUs etc as per the LDAP config in the config.inc.php? Or you could go to the terminal and type sudo apt-get install mysql-admin If i've remembered that to be the right package that'll install the GUI for administration of the local MySQL server. Go to catalogues and add the database (schema) then go to the user administration section and add in the database access user and set the privilages you want.

You cant login as admin. You have to type sudo then the command. And then the password for your user. If you can install proftp (sudo apt-get install proftpd) and set that up to FTP your files accross to a folder in your home directory. Then do cd ~ on the server. That'll take you to your home directory. Next you need to do sudo cp -r (name of the folder you put the files in) /var/www That'll move the contents of that folder to the www folder. I'm doing the same as you this week with installing an ubuntu dapper LAMP server but to install a butchered up MRBS to be a resource booking system. So i've had to do similar stuff. Anyway, i hope that's all correct...i'm sure someone will be able to correct me (i'm looking at you webman!)

I tried that rapla thing this afternoon. I didnt have much time to spend on it but it was asking for java development paths etc and i just gave up because it wasnt a straight simple install like MRBS.

Server 2k3 will give you something like 90 days trial with your server offering a load of MSTSC connections then automatically restrics you to 3 if you dont register it as a proper terminal server IIRC. But yeah, no TS cals needed and there is always VNC as Norphy said. I always found VNC to be very slow really and i'd be making mistakes because the screen wouldnt keep up with what i was typing etc.

When you install IIS on a server there is usually the option to install the tsclient component. That lets you go http://yourservernamehere/tsclient and it'll bring up a window in internet explorer with a web based MSTSC client type doo daa. It sounds like that's what you're after.

Would any of you that use LDAP authentication for your MRBS setup be willing to PM me a copy of your config.inc.php files please? I'm having a couple of issues that i want to check.

I MSTSC'd to a windows server over t'internet then SSH'd to the LAMP server

heh heh heh Well i MSTSC'd into the servers and played about with the config over SSH from the 192.168.3.0 subnet and then mstsc'd to another machine from there on the 192.168.0.0 subnet and it's working. I'm 18 on the 23rd July LOL. I need a job due to lack of money. So anyone in/near Walsall who needs a temporary summer techie i'll be glad to take up the role

I think i may have found the problem...i set the subnet mask wrong....... /me hangs his head in shame

I've setup an ubuntu LAMP box. It's on the 192.168.3.0 subnet. That's the servers subnet. The desktop machines are on 192.168.0.0 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0. I want to be able to SSH and FTP to my LAMP server from a machine on these subnets but it appears to be blocking them. I can get to them fine from the 192.168.3.0 subnet though. Any ideas as to how i can set it up to allow access from these extra subnets? I'm thinking something about the hosts.allow file but not being all /that/ hot on *nix i thought i'd ask.

Personally i dotn see the problem with putting something on the page with the link saying that it give the warnings but to look in the URL bar to see see an address shown in a print screen below. Saves you a lot of money......

I'll do it when i go in tommorow. Right now i'm pondering over installing VRTSralus on a debian based server...looks easy.
