1. Weh hey i keep noticing more and more people radiating out from around the walsall area recently. Wolvo, walsall, sandwell. I thought i was the only one!
2. Check whether you are getting the issue when the PSU is plugged in, when the laptop is fully charged, when it's not fully charged, when the battery is draining etc. This might help you locate the problem. I must say i get that quite a lot when i'm plugging in USB/firewire hard drives. I think it's to do with the common ground that is used when designing devices and often there's small faults in PSU devices that most people dont notice but sometimes it causes a current to flow through that common grounding.
3. That was one of the things i thought of immediately. Mostly because someone in the halls of residence plugged a router into the network in their room the wrong way round and killed ResNET. That might be the reason routers are banned. Also it turns out that they were banned from the network for a month or two
4. I can't see that you're going to run into many problems running deb on most machines. My old school have a debian web server running on a new poweredge (new as in 2k5/6 i forget which). It's a standalone but was the same spec as the one that was running our ISA server. The latest stable release was on April 8th 2007 and is called Etch. Sarge is now outdated.
5. There were a number of fire alarms set off during exams when i was doing my GCSEs. I think they had about 4 fire alarms in a couple of days at one point (or some rediculous number)
6. If any of you do decide to go for CISCO for god's sake backup your IOS and startup-config. It's always a shame when someone is configuring a switch and needs to start from scratch and accidentally kills the IOS.
7. We had a testing box called Jane. I forget why it was called jane, i think we found a machine and it as called jane so it stayed jane from there on in. The problem is the innuendo that can come from it. "Jane's gone down again" "Turn jane on" A suggestion for a new server was that it got called Jenna Jaimeson. That didn't happen of course. Functional names are what i prefer for production servers. But for my home boxes my LAMP server is called lampy, my 2U rackmount is called behemoth and the old RM box is called frankenbox
8. Ohhhhh!!!! That worked. /me wonders what's changed :| methinks tis the direction of the \'s Ta
9. That doesnt work either. I dont think the problem is something to do with ie7 security settings because i'm getting the same issues in firefox
10. I've tried it in iexplore and it doesnt seem to work there either. Maybe i'm getting the syntax wrong. Show Me That would open a file in the root of C that's called showme.txt. Or am I getting the link path wrong?
11. After a quick test I can't that to work. Doesn't seem to like it I'll have another go later. I could do it easily enough with FTP links but i dont really want to be doing it that way.
12. You're not an ICT technician you're a lawyer!!
13. OK, I did use the search before anyone says anything! There were 91 pages of stuff so I thought I'd post instead. I am looking into creating a web-based style intranet. What i'm after is being able to open network shares in windows explorer from the web browser. How would i go about doing this? simply putting Link to resource doesnt help. I've tried a few things to no avail so can anyone suggest something? The website / VLE managers out there might know what i need (looking at you Webman). Also links for opening apps from the browser. Any help greatly appreciated! Cheers, Joe
14. You may want to consider mounting base units under the desks. As in, slung under in brackets. I think that was one of the options that was considered when designing the e-learning centre at the school i used to work in/attend.
15. Pirate IS > Ninja. Purely because it was decreed when it was touched by his noodley appendage! (If you've no idea what i'm on about look up the "flying spaghetti monster" and "Pastafarian")
16. I dont think i could live it down. Chav scum is NOT a way of life i could take on. No Pink Floyd, no Led Zeppelin, no Levellers, no R.E.M no Coheed and Cambria I couldnt do it.
17. Another vote for PrimoPDF here.

ubuntu and vmware

Also if you're using proxies and need WGET then adding the following to your .bashrc file in your home dir does help. http_proxy="http://proxy:port" https_proxy="http://proxy:port" ftp_proxy="http://proxy:port" export http_proxy https_proxy ftp_proxy Log out and back in and then it works
20. I was tasked with looking into facilities/resource management software and solutions just before i left my school. I looked into MRBS (which is opensource and runs on MySQL and PHP). The other option that i found was using exchange as a resource booking system. I didnt get a chance to explore this a bit more because i left, but i think the general opinion of the Head of ICT weas that he wanted to use e-Portal to do room booking eventually so i believe it got dropped.
21. I would have thought all the calor gas bottles, regulators, bits of pipes, ignitors and lava bricks to maintain and replace would have been a lot more complicated than a metal bucket with some holes in the bottom and a grill grid thingy slung on the top wiht a charcole fire in it Difficult my pale british arse
22. Yeah but he might enjoy it :|
23. Oh yes ladies and gentlemen it's that time again. Welcome to today's edition of "Fetch Jake's cage and the restraints!" Grandmothers...honestly, dude!
24. My tiny room at uni plays host to 2 x cisco 2610 routers, one cisco catalyst 2924-XL-EN, one allied telesyn 24 port network switch, one dual core desktop PC, one 2U rackmount VA Linux Fullon 2240 dual 1GHz P3 processors and several boxes of cables. That's all on the major ICT equipment that i have at uni. It doesnt all get used on a day to day basis...and for a 19 year old that's quite good i thought LOL. Then of course there's the guitars in hard cases and the big 50W bass amp lol. I wonder if i could get planning permission for an extension to a 2nd floor room?
