Our suite comprises of the larger Flex machines. All but 2 still going after 9 years and those failed well outside of warranty. We also have various other VPC models dotted about. For "student" areas I'd recommend the ones that "cage" the connectors away.

I often wait until the holidays and then grab those that still need updating.

Our refusenik wouldn't use their phone for 2FA at work, e.g. for Arbor, and was given an old tablet that used to get passed around the class. This had a problem so I replaced it with an even older one locked down as an Authenticator kiosk. Didn't go down well, but it does the job it was supplied for without any extra expense or the ability for it to be used as a "reward toy".

Star Trek: Section 31 (Paramount) Empress Philippa Georgiou has dropped off the grid and is running a bar outside of Federation Space. Section 31 come calling, needing her help. This seems to be the latest movie that everyone is lining up to give a kicking to. I actually quite enjoyed it. It's not a classic and it's not particularly "Trek", but it's a watchable 100 minutes. I'd watch a sequel, though the reception to this suggests that won't be happening.

Finished Nautilus on Prime. It's basically an origin story for Captain Nemo (Clem Fandango Shazad Latif) and the Nautilus. I had high hopes for this when it was announced, but then it seemed to disappear and Disney, who produced it, finally got cold feet and sold it off to various outlets. It plays a bit like a SciFi/SyFy Channel show from the 90s in terms of apparent budget, though I suspect it was more expensive than it looks, and poor scripting. Captain Nemo also comes across as a bit of an arrogant d***, though that may be true to the novel. On the plus side, the diverse crew is actually fairly diverse even including a Maori. The show was filmed down under, so most of the Brits (nearly all of them are bad 'uns) are Aussies; though, unless you're familiar with the actors, you probably wouldn't guess. While some plot threads were obviously being saved for future seasons and new ones were revealed, the one and only season ends with the sense of "the end of Book One". Worth seeing? I wouldn't rush to see it unless you're in the mood for some undemanding entertainment. Any show that features the two "sides" attempting to resolve their differences via a game of cricket can't be all bad, though.

Been OK (so far) on the 64GB pads, but have had to uninstall GarageBand and sometimes other large installs and reinstall them after the update on the 32GB ones.

I have complied a report of all kit that won't run W11, warned of the date and also included relevant bits from KCSIE about the importance of keeping kit up to date. The response? At least I have a paper trail!

Wonder why they have both? TBH, I'd like to ditch Garageband as it takes a huge chunk of the disk on our older 32GB models.

3x KS1/2 sites. One very early adopter, the others fairly early. The only problem I had with the migration was that some of the documentation could have been clearer. I'm sure that's been tightened up since, though. Since then, the only problem I have is that my permissions seem to vary from site to site and I sometimes have to get access to someone else's console to run/design a report. Not heavy users of advanced functions, though.

By using Dog instead of Doge they made a 25% saving. Isn't that what it's all about?

Just finished The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh Season 1 on Prime. An Indian family relocate to Pittsburgh when the Dad gets a contract with Space X. However they become the prime suspects when a neighbour's house goes up in flames. 8x 30 minute episodes. Not raucously funny, but an amusing watch. A second season is on the way, but I can see problems with the show's format. It's designed so that we're drip-fed the story in the form of interviews by a couple of FBI agents with lots of Rashomon style differing interpretations of what happened (mainly for comedic effect). However the length of time between the Pradeeps arriving in the US and the arson is 2 years. Surely they can't stretch this out over more than another season, especially given "when" Season One ends? If nothing else the little kid will be growing up. Still, if the trailer raises a smile you'll probably enjoy it.

Next Goal Wins (Disney) A Dutch coach is forced to take on the worst national football squad ever: American Samoa. Can he help them score just one goal? Based very loosely on a true story, this is a fun, heartwarming movie. I'm not at all interested in footie, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Well worth a look if you have Disney.

Back In Action (Netflix) Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz play spies who gave up the life to start a family. 15 years later, their past catches up with them... Fun action thriller, similar to, but slightly better than Netflix's own "The Family Plan". If you're in the mood for a light-hearted, brain-off action movie and have access to Netflix this might fit the bill.
