Try them in a private browsing window and see if the problem persists. Will get around any weird issues with cache or multiple signed in Google accounts.

Another nod for EduLink. Loads of our staff use it for registers even on their laptops. Also, if you change MIS you could possibly keep it in place with a new MIS to ease transition for everybody.

Generate barcodes in Google Sheets (also Docs, Sites, etc.) To present any text as a barcode, open the font selection list, select More fonts and search for Libre Barcode. There are a few formats to choose from, with or without a text label underneath. You may need to wrap text between asterisks, but that's simple enough to formulate in Sheets.

Not noticed that with that model, but a bulging battery is not something to ignore. You'll want to explore battery replacement. The rest of the device ought to be okay, though.

I wasn't meaning Chrome profiles, I was meaning multiple Google accounts signed in on the web, so clicking on the account badge within the webpage and having more than one account listed to switch between. Can't remember how I arrived at that long URL exactly, but with a bit of wrangling you can get equivalent ones that will work for Keep, Docs, Sheets, etc. I remember wanting to get bookmarks for different Google services that would either go directly to the web app if signed in, or to a sign-in page with the school domain pre-filled (rather than via a product promo page like Classroom does) that then does go on to the web app.

I'd be surprised if that worked. Even if you could get Flex onto a Chromebook, is it going to auto update? Once it stops auto updating, your management license is presumably out of the window once you do a manual reinstall in order to upgrade.

I expect you're better off scheduling db backups for either before or after the school day (to avoid any affect on performance and to give more distinct restore points in terms of school business). I'd also recommend looking at doing this using a SQL Server maintenance plan, rather than DBattach. A lot of that data is probably held due to legal obligations on telcos. I fully expect that the nothing to hide argument was deployed at some point in the past, and is now coming home to roost.

I don't know if you can remove the app suggestions there. Do you have third-party apps and API access restricted with allowlists? That will prevent users from actually ending up using said apps.

Given that you evidently have staff relying on (or at least expecting to have access to) CP information stored in mailboxes, that's an argument to hold off on purging mail at this point. You'll want all your ducks in a row before you pull that trigger! 1 year general retention seems quite hardline, imho. Best practice and data retention policy for student info, etc. is its own issue, but sometimes it is useful to be able to dig out old emails from well over a year ago. If you're resolved to 1 year, perhaps add a an extra month or so to allow for people to refer to stuff from ~around~ a year ago. That might be helpful at points within the academic year that might arrive later in the calendar year than in the year before.

Just take care to review the settings for Google Assistant, etc. on that Search and Assistant page. You may not want Workspace data surfacing on a family's Nest Hub, for instance.

Are Chrome OS CVEs the only CVEs being addressed by Chrome OS updates? If for instance, there was something like OpenSSL included in Chrome OS, would a vulnerability being discovered for that result in a Chrome OS CVE?

We don't have a tool for this as such, but we use the CSV import routine in SIMS (Routines → Data In → Student Data → Import From Spreadsheet). The CSV needs the columns Forename, Surname, Admission Number and Email Address. We store admission numbers in AD, which helps here. There'll be various ways to generate the CSV out of AD: A PowerShell command or WiseSoft Bulk AD Users to name a couple.

The problem with running things into the ground is that by definition it's a future where devices are not working properly. If end of support for a Chromebook is not your EOL date for it, then you will want to decide on how far past the end of support you're prepared to go before considering it EOL. Personally, I would want that to be months, rather than years (i.e. arrange for it to be EOL by the start of the next academic year).

Given that your students are using Chromebooks, how about the following? In Google Admin > Devices > Chrome > Settings > Users & browsers > [select the relevant OU(s) containing your student users] Scroll down to the User experience section and set Multiple sign-in access as Block multiple sign-in access for users in this organisation. Not using that setup here, but I think that would then mean that when students are signed into their school account on a Chromebook, they'll be prevented from signing into another Google account alongside it (i.e. preventing account switching within Google web apps). That setting is a user setting, not a device setting, so it shouldn't prevent your students from being able to sign into their Chromebooks with consumer Google accounts. Yes, they could still sign into their Chromebook with a consumer account in school, but I suspect that's not the problem you're wanting to address.
