In the late 80’s I had a job in a leisure club attached to a 5* hotel that once a year hosted a massive pro-am golf tournament ran by Peter Allis and for 3 days the hotel was full of celebs like Forsyth, Tarby, Wogan, Corbett, Russ Abbott, Bob Carolgees (with Spit) to name a few. Great times, lots of alcohol drunk by the stars, funny golf stories (I once gave Ronnie Corbett a lift up in a bunker so he could see over the lip) and great tips....

Had the dreaded email tonight from the chair of governors, zoom is dropping the 40 minute limit for schools, can we install ASAP. I said no, explained why and cc'd the HM. 5 mins later, email from HM, if you say no then no it is, we'll stay with Teams.

Finally got my A1 Plus for Faculty licences, the trick (as told to me by M$) is to create a new staff account that doesn’t have any licences allocated, then go here:- https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/education/products/office Sign in as the new account and then choose teacher. The account gets allocated A1 plus (assuming you are entitled) and the Faculty plus licences get added to your subscriptions in the portal

I'm in a battle with M$ at the moment trying to get A1 Plus for Faculty licences, my reseller says I'm I entitled, M$ say no.... I'll let you know how I get on

One other change I made was to add .pdf as a recognized file type in MyFiles by editing hapconfig.xml and adding an extra line to the filters section

Using an iPad on a remote session which then had a remote session to the server open was an even worse idea

We peaked at 103 on Friday morning, Monday was a much more civil 84.... Currently dealing with the numpties/teachers who login and then open a web page or three, Insight, SIMS and their email, none of which needs access to the Remote Desktop...

I’m in this morning, meeting (in a very big room...) at 9am to decide staffing levels going forwards for key teams. We still have a few students in. I would suspect we’ll shutdown by tonight with just me or site manager coming in if there is an major issue

This is what I did but the first time I got it wrong. The script is an ‘only allow this group to create teams and disable everyone else’ script which I misread, so first time I pointed it at the all students group, gave them all the ability to create teams and knocked out all the staff..... So the group you give it is the one you want to create teams, not the one you want to block!!!

I can see a few uses for that in an educational environment with daily notices etc but it does give fuel to the keyboard warriors out there, post something that can't be commented on and disappears again... Now if only they had done the edit tweet button instead.....

Depends on your network. If it’s flat then the UniFi will be fine as a core, if you want complex layer 3 VLAN routing then the gen1 UniFi switch won’t be up to the job as it’s only layer 2 and you’ll need to look elsewhere

Taking leave Mon - Thur and in Friday to do some bits and bobs. Tech is in all week doing some small jobs, few new pc's here and there but we've deliberatly kept this week clear to have a break

Application forms for y7 and y12 use Google Forms. Once a student is pre-enrolled we setup the p1 in SIMS with the bare bones info, name, student, email and then send them a username in TASC Insight where they complete everything else electronically using their pre-enrolment module. Did it for 160 new 7’s last summer, worked perfectly
