Think this is the right forum - please move if not... I'm spending a lot of evening and weekends at the moment working about 5 miles past the back end of nowhere with a very poor (and at best in a couple of places 2 bar) mobile signal and no wifi. I was thinking about trying to put a powered mobile phone signal booster at the end of one of the barns where the signal is best but looking at them on-line there are hundreds of various features and quality. Does anyone have any experience with these, looking for one that will work with O2 and 3G (which is still better than "no signal" or the dreaded "E" roaming data status...) TIA Andrew

We had uproar when we removed the VHS players, in the end, only History Department had a couple of issues with old resources so we relented and put one back in for them. Within 6 months, they changed syllabus, didn't need the tapes again and that player also came out. We are now VHS free Easter jobs here include last couple of servers to 2019, upgrade to the latest Unifi Console and then firmware updates for all AP's and switches, couple of new Windows 10 workstations. In work this week, have next week off, like proper off, not even on call

Salisbury is all charity shops, pubs and coffee shops these days so unless that's her Mastercard weakness, you are safe from unattended boutique shopping. Don't bother with Stonehenge, it really is just a field with some stones in a circle with a new gift shop.... Binge watched After Life on Netflix over the weekend. If you ignore the often unnecessary potty mouth language it was stunning tv, beautifully written and starring Ricky Gervais with a fab supporting cast. Takes you on an emotional roller-coaster and tackles some very deep subject matter, ripping your heart out one minute and making you laugh the next. Even my OH who usually hates anything with RG in it sat transfixed and watched all 6 episodes (although she swears blind it was only because of the dog but secretly I think she enjoyed it...)

BGInfo is one of the Microsoft SysInternal programs which can be found here:- https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/bginfo Useful for setting wallpaper, putting info on screen etc, the screen shots in the link above should give you a starting point. I'm old school so I have the same as all the teachers and students. There is no point testing software running on a souped-up monster in the tech office if it then runs like a dog when rolled out in the rest of the school....

I've got all 400 PC's here on 1809 and it's pretty much rock solid, haven't rebuilt a PC due to OS issues since the roll-out at Christmas. Makes a pleasant change from the nightmare three months we ran 1709 which I never ever want to repeat again!!! I'm not planning to even look at 1903 other than on a test PC or two....

I run AB Tutor v7.3 on Windows 10 workstations without too many issues but I've recently also purchased NetSupport DNA and the two run side by side, AB is still fab for quickly viewing and taking over PC's, NetSupport does the lurking in the background and all the big brother reporting

We had a world of printer issues with Windows 10 Edu 1709 (64 bit) and Office 2010 (32bit) where randomly we would experience no printers, printer fonts reporting as corrupt, no disk space errors when there was loads. Never did fix it despite spending days looking at it but the same setup in both 1803 and 1809 did and still is working fine. We put it down to a 1709 printing bug (of which there were many in that release....) Andrew

Would using BGInfo.exe be a better bet as all you would need to do is call it from the login script and edit and maintain one .bgi file..?

I'm on sync v3.7.15 which was upgraded at the end of January when we switched from ParentPay to WisePay. AFAIK we didn't pay for that to happen, it was done under standard maintenance

Fit fine with a standard double back box. Their range is about 10/15m max, I've got a couple in dado-trunking in sixth form common areas and they are fine for our BYOD areas, but as our metallic friend said above, not sure they would cope with 32 laptops in a class environment. That saying, nice unit and are managed from the standard Unifi console just like the other AP's Andrew

We've done a couple of links ourselves using PowerBeam 5AC Gen2's, one was line of sight over 100m that runs at 400Mb/s and another that is 600m non line of sight through trees and a block of flats and that runs at 160Mb/s (sports field pavillion). Both links cost £200 each all-in and although the non line of sight one was a bit more fiddly, the AirOS alignment tools that come with the dish firmware makes it fairly easy to get them pointing at each other. You wouldn't know you weren't on the main LAN at either remote site
