  1. As annoying as Windows 10 has been, unfortunately not a single person who will be on the M$ BETT stand for 4 days will have had anything to do with it's inception\development\bugs etc so taking it out on them is just unfair. That is what official forums, M$ Chat, paid for support contracts are for. The nice chaps and chapesses who will be at BETT will simply be reading corporate scripts, showing corporate powerpoints, giving out pens\badges\other stuff and scanning badges for the marketing team.....
  2. Been running 1809 on every PC in the school after upgrading the lot from 1709 over Christmas (who wanted a break anyway...) Number of can't print related helpdesk jobs before Christmas: hundreds Number of can't print related helpdesk jobs after Christmas: 1 (PE printer out of paper....) Gone back to using .bat scripts on login and touch wood, thus far we have finally cracked it call \\server\profiles\printers\bat\%computername%.bat IMHO 1709 and printing just doesn't work...
  3. Scratch 3 (like 1.4 and 2) is portable once installed so I copied v3 out of my appdata and onto a server share, pointed all the students at the Scratch Desktop.exe, job done. Ran a class of 32 off the share this morning without any issues
  4. So... My understanding is that access to Microsoft Store just doesn't work/not allowed from behind a proxy which basically rules it out of being any use whatsoever. However, I really want to download and play with Microsoft Whiteboard on a school PC that is connected to one of our IWB's to see how effective the interface is. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/microsoft-whiteboard/9mspc6mp8fm4?activetab=pivot:overviewtab# Is there any way round this so that schools can download and install Store Apps? Or have I got this completely wrong (it's been known more than once... this week...)? Cheers Andrew
  5. There for all 4 days and bringing the OH (aka the Queen of the Blag) so nothing is safe if it’s not nailed down [emoji4]
  6. As above. For testing, install the latest management software on the platform of your choice, at my school that’s a 2016 server, at home it’s a win 10 desktop that doubles up as a media server connected to my tv. The cloud key does work well (my student WiFi runs on one) but make sure you upgrade the firmware to the latest 12.x (or 8.x for the Gen2) as earlier versions than that weren’t great.... Only other thing is the range on the In-wall AP’s is far less than the UAP’s although this is by design
  7. Doesn’t always work though, I had the utter misfortune of channel hopping through ‘Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2’ the other week....
  8. I don’t think it’s officially supported but editing and replacing the credprovs.dll.mui file still works in 1809.
  9. Have now finished upgrading the entire site to 1809 (and most of the servers to 2019...) Monday will either be the quietest day in Helpdesk history while being carried shoulder high round the sports hall in assembly or carnage, but hey, can’t be worse than the nightmare we had running 1709 for three months....
  10. Morning all. Today is the day for the south of the M4 social where we’ll meet at my school from 12ish and head over to one of two possible pubs (based on numbers) about 1ish. If you are unexpectedly free and fancy a lunch social in Salisbury then let me know and I’ll send you the directions, free parking is available etc. See you all soon
  11. Indeed you can. The barrier will be down but in true IT security I’ll put the pin on a post-it note next to the pin pad [emoji1]
  12. Is it wrong that I’m hoping the Dalek wipes out the entire cast and saves us having to watch the last 20 mins of this drivel....?
  13. I’ll be there from 11ish, I think the London train gets in about 12:40? Are we doing pub or picnic?
  14. Went for it today, all in place upgraded without too much hassle, only issue was ssl certificate wasn’t bonded to 443 in IIS after the upgrade but that was easily resolved (once I’d stopped panicking and thought it through...)
  15. Last one here, we broke up yesterday but we've just done a 24 hour rolling upgrade of 350 PC's to 1809 and several servers to 2019. About to shutdown all non essential PC's, turn off the backup servers, set the alarms, lock the front gate and "work from home" for the next two weeks
  16. I'm not ignoring you all but at the mo I'm out in the pouring rain changing a puncture on the OH's car....
  17. All my data servers have already been done from either 2012R2 or 2016 to 2019 without issue. They have also got rid of that annoying accept screen after the first reboot that was a pia in the 2016 upgrade as you couldn't do it via RDP and had to physically visit each server... I've always been told never in-place a PDC/BDC and have never even tried....
  18. I know I should burn in $eternal_hell for even thinking this but has anyone in-place upgraded a W2K12R2 server with IIS and PHP directly to Server 2019 yet? Really should do this the long way round but if it in-places without issues then I might just pull the trigger over Christmas... Cheers Andrew
  19. Did the first 100 pc’s from 1709 to 1809 last night, all appears to have gone ok. Will run them for the last week of term and if they hold up I’ll do the rest of the site over Christmas
  20. Thanks Domino, all worked fine and the new wildcard certificate is now on all the servers. If you are at BETT, remind me that I owe you a drink Andrew
  21. Would you have a doc you could share regarding the steps for that? I freely admit certificates is one thing I'm absolutely rubbish at... Creating a new request is fine, it's the rest I got lost at!!! Cheers Andrew
  22. No problem - greatly appreciate the help already given
  23. Hi Thanks for your reply, glad to know it's not me going mad. When you say export the private key from the server, which one is that as I'm not seeing any private keys to export either from mmc certificates or anywhere else for that matter!! Cheers
