LTSC vs SAC is the Brexit of edugeek. SAC is a change but if your invested in Office 365 it makes sense to be SAC.
-
WSUS configured and Windows Update for Business configured correctly in group policy.

I can see perpetual Windows and Office licences cost more than Microsoft 365 user licences. Basically forcing you into Office 365 / AzureAD. I can't see any org going 100% into Gsuite as Windows is still required for Win32 apps such as Exam Software. On the Google Side how do you do conditional access?

No federated accounts or account provisionibg which is the same as epic and Unity.

There is this. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointmigration/introducing-the-sharepoint-migration-tool There is a powershell module for it so yo can have a scheduled task to migrate data. I wouldn't want to mirror one drives. You also really need a 'Onedrive Admins` group to grant SPO admin rights to. A powershell script could connect to each onedrive and upload the data. You could use a service account to run as a scheduled task.

I think you'd have to reimage to SAC. The UWP components are stripped out of LTSC as it's meant for use in hospitals, power stations etc.
-
Well that's one way of getting people off LTSC. https://borncity.com/win/2019/06/15/crazy-windows-10-enterprise-ltsc-2019-offered-a-feature-update-to-1903/

This does a similar job. https://robotronic.de/runasroben.html For organisations you need to puchase licensing. You can run a process as system to get an updater to update. It relies on a service to do the group membership change. Granting temporary privilege seems a better way than multiple accounts.

I did look at Enterprise State Roaming but last time I checked it didn't work on hybrid devices. UEV is very hit and miss you also need templates to roam settings everytime you deploy/update an application. Some programs don't roaming settings well such as Autocad. It does feel like 1:1 may happen with all these little steps making shared devices harder. We only wipe profiles using delprof2 in Library areas as specialist support software usually has settings students have configured so we recommend they use the same PC.

BTL who write the software presume you have a dedicated lab for exams. The software can update as standard users hence why it most cases the default path is C:\users\public\ etc. My guess is they don't test it using proxy servers which is where the issue could be. You also are reliant on how much bandwidth the exam board have provisioned. It needs to move away from flash player. If it needs to self update this could have been done via a service. It's not the worst piece of exam software.

Hi Has anyone had the issue of large Excel files (16MB) being locked by Windows Defender on a file server. On access AV is enabled. Strangely it only occurs via RDS connections and not from standard Windows 10 Education clients. An error saying the file has been locked by 'another user' appears. This is using Office 365 ProPlus 1904 (11601.20230). Has anybody else encountered this? RDS Hosts are Windows Server 2016.

Well LTSC is patched. SAC does have improved security features introduced in 1709 which are now in LTSC 1809. I would always go for SAC as its the most tested version. Also software such as Visual Studio is not supported on LTSC.

I've found offline files to be not great. Saying that moving GBs of shared files to SharePoint Online takes time and crucially getting staff trained and on board.

Maybe MS believe you will be paperless with Windows 10. I've had the Adobe Reader can't see any printers issue on and off for 10 years. There's too much legacy with PDFs to work correctly in any 3rd party viewer.

Is *.azure.net whitelisted through your filter?

How are you managing updates for provisioned apps?
free780 replied to JasonNVSD's topic in Windows 10
In essence you can't manage the updates. You can use group policy to use WUDO in theroy content for updates is only downloaded once and shared with peers on the same subnet. This is fine if all your PCs are on all the time. -

We had this on RDS 2016. So the same as LTSC 1607. Traced it to a build up of per user firewall rules. Try clearing them manually or via powershell. You can create a scheduled task to do this automatically. There is a reg key to prevent their creation on 1607/Server 2016. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4467684/windows-10-update-kb4467684 The reg setting won't delete existing rules but prevent new ones. Ideally you want a non merge firewall GPO and just clear any per user firewall rules. -
Most of it is open source anyway.

Also Apple can't seem to invest in a proper server OS and make it reliable.
-
That's an expense cheese grater!

You need to enter the domain for your UPN. You cannot bypass it within Adobe 2019 apps like MS Office apps.
-
I hope its not something in squid. As this is what most proxies use.

Does the issue occur on a device when using a direct connection? Also are those affected using on prem exchange or exchange online?
