A computer from 2000 would have, maybe, a single core 1 GHz Athlon, a PIII of the same clock speed or God help you, a 1.4 or 1.5GHz Pentium 4. It'd have maybe a gig of RAM but more likely 512MB and a 20-30GB hard drive. Could you run Windows 10 on that? Maybe, with a following wind and a lot of patience. Even then, you'd be limited to the 32-bit version as the first x64 CPU was the Athlon 64 released in 2003. Would you want to? Not unless you're a sadist. Noone in their right mind would use a 25 year old computer for Windows 10, that's just insane. /edit no, wait, Windows 10 requires a CPU which supports PAE, an NX bit and SSE2. The first x86 compatible CPUs which had NX bits were the Athlon 64 (2003) and the Prescott Pentium 4 (2004). I'm pretty damn sure you'd still wouldn't want to run Windows 10 on those, though. I still have nightmares about the rooms full of Prescott Celerons I had to support in my first school.

Wheels are all identical. The wheel that was making the noise was on the other side of the car until I hit the pothole the other day. They also put the right size tyre on it (205/55 R16). I'll check the balancing weights, but I don't recall seeing any lines on them when I swapped the wheel over.

Bit of an odd one this, hoping someone might be able to explain this. Around here is the land of the pothole. However bad you think it is where you are, I can almost guarantee that here, it's worse. I live on a single-track lane, about three miles long with all of about 10 houses along it, eight of which are probably farmhouses so what traffic that does go up here is more than likely a tractor. The road is in a shocking state and the local council don't give a monkey's because barely anyone uses the road. Anyway, the other day I hit one of those interminable potholes with my passenger side front wheel and got a flat tyre. No problem. Swapped it with my spare which happens to be the same kind of alloy wheel as what's on the rest of the car. Makes more sense as far as I'm concerned, there's enough space for it in the spare wheel bay so why bother with a steely. ANYWAY. The tyre that was on the spare was new, hadn't been used and was only about a month old because I get through so many tyres, so I fitted it and went carried with my evening. I went to the garage the next day and got the tyre replaced on what's now the spare. Today I decided to swap the driver side front wheel with the spare, so that the front of the car could have two new tyres of the same kind, instead of the cheap and nasty thing that got put onto the driver side front because I was desperate at the time. Made sense to me at the time, anyway. I did that this morning and left it. I went out this afternoon to pick my partner up from work and all the way there, there was a sort of scraping/rubbing sound coming from the wheel well where I'd changed the wheel that morning. Eventually the car's TPMS triggered, reporting a loss in tyre pressure despite the tyres all being OK. The only thing that had changed was me changing the wheel, so I pulled into a cafe's car park and while my partner got lunch, I changed the wheel back. Hey presto, no more scraping/rubbing sound. So, what happened? Did I do something wrong? Is the wheel bent? Did I not torque the wheel nuts correctly? The car is going in for a service in about 10 days' time, so I'll ask about it then.

I loved Half Life, at least until I got to Xen. I played it first on a PC with a K6 200MHz CPU and a 6MB Voodoo 1 card. It was mostly OK, but it chugged when it got to the level with the dual rotor helicopter and the paratroopers rappelling from it. I then upgraded to K6-3 400 and a Voodoo 3 and it was buttery smooth. Playing the entire game from the perspective of Freeman was unique at the time and even now I don't think it's that common to have that exposition like that from the perspective of the character, there's usually cut scenes to drive the story. What a game and Half Life 2 was even better. I'm still bitter about not having Episode 3, but Valve got more interested in Steam than making games I think.

So are you posting it then? /runs

A Pluralsight subscription is worth looking at too.

When I open the app, it says ‘No Topic’ then goes to the login screen. When I click to log in, I get a massive error There’s more to the error than that, it keeps going for about three or four pages but I can’t seem to copy it to the clipboard to post here. iPhone 13, iOS 17.1.1, no updates available for the app so must be the current one. Does the same on WiFi and on cellular

EDU version of Windows does not have the right to install in folders?
Norphy replied to kennysarmy's topic in Windows
There’s an ‘ARM64’ string in that error, are you deploying to ARM or Intel machines? As an aside, it sounds like they’re mixing S Mode and Edu editions of Windows to me. -
I don't know if it's still true, but there was a time where Unifi APs didn't use the same PoE standards as everyone else.

LUST - Luton to St. Pancras Doesn't really apply, admittedly -
Is this just Windows laptops or Linux and Macs as well?

Is there an internet filter between this wifi network and the internet? Does it have msftconnecttest.com blocked?

Might be worth rubbing something like GetDataBack against the drive (https://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm). They have an evaluation version where you can view what’s in the drive and pay to recover if you want it. That’s one of the better ones I’ve used, in any case.

Anyone remember the “Julie” advert, where the boy in the back of the car… well, it’s memorable, let’s put it that way

Looking at other articles, it sounds like the group behind the protests were planning to rescue the sheep themselves then take her to an animal sanctuary near Glasgow. Instead, the owner of the land got the farmer behind The Sheep Game to rescue her instead and they decided to take her to Dalscone. Sounds like sour grapes more than anything else. -

Regarding the above Britain's loneliest sheep in hiding after rehoming row This farm is quite close to where I live. It's a nice place and I think the sheep will be treated well there, but there's always someone who will do their best to ruin things. Do people really have nothing better to do? -
[tv show] 'Futurama' Renewed for Two More Seasons at Hulu
Norphy replied to 6Foot2's topic in TV & Movies
On balance, I’m happy to hear that. The new season wasn’t anywhere near their strongest but they had some good ideas in there which raised a smile more than once. The crypto spoof and the COVID episodes come to mind. -
Things that could have been improved before being approved...

Either that or James May edited it -
The latter I think, iirc films need to be shown in the cinema for a certain amount of time before they’re considered for Oscars

That makes sense. Otherwise I think Google would be knocking on your door! -

Yeah, after my accident I had a company claiming to be from the insurance company who pressured me to try to claim compensation as well. They actually coached me on what to say. In the end, I said that I wasn't comfortable with claiming anything as no one was injured and it was a very low speed accident. The really annoying thing was that these cowboys contacted me before the claims department did, so initially I thought they were dealing with the actual claim. But no. The amount of pressure they put on me to try and claim compensation was absurd, it's no surprise insurance prices are so high if people succumb to this sort of nonsense. For the record, my insurance company was Geoffrey Insurance, a company owned by BISL who own Budget Insurance, among others and are underwritten by a company called MarkerStudy. Complete cowboys, took more than a month to settle my claim and three weeks just to contact me. This is what happens when you go for the cheapest product on price comparison search engines.

It's probably going to be one of their very low end servers, like an R350 /edit https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/ipovw/poweredge-r350 Looks pretty shallow to me, but it's hard to judge

My son goes to an e-sporty camp during the holidays. What they have is about 10-15 bog standard towers around the room. The only difference between it and every other computer classroom I've seen is that they're midi sized towers and they've got RGB on the cases and peripherals. I don't know what spec they are but I'm willing to bet the computer comes to considerably less than £1500 a unit.
