@jamiet1985 @Jobos The lightspeed cost is approx £3 per user per year on a 3yr deal plus the cost of the appliance plus what ever your re-seller adds.

or another way of putting it would be "you'll be running facility after the 'transfer'"

yeah sorry. In that case I'd go with a self build using an old Motherboard (nothing fancy) and FreeBSD to get the advantage of dedupe.

QNAP !

We changed from facility to SIMS. I would advise that you get a contract saying that Capita will migrate *all* of your data. They have been known to only migrate certain things, leaving you reliant of facility for some time to come (with an annual cost).

I still think some of the categories are too vague, for example describing one device as "Almost impossible to fully lock down and secure" and another as "Very secure" doesn't really make any sense. I've never had any problem securing an android device or ipad. I think you need to spell out exactly what you can and can't do with each device, whether it requires third party software and so-forth. "-Not Easily integrated with current systems or software" ?? so it doesn't work with 802.11abgn ? I can't use it on the internet? what sort of systems can't you integrate it with?

You can see the members if you have permissions>access permissions> View members "User can view the forum membership list". But remember the trick with google groups: *Everything* is a forum first, the "email group" is only the "backend" to the forum and people just see the email as a reply to the forum (if they choose to). For all intents and purposes people think google groups is a regular mailing list, but it isn't, far from it because it has many more features. Of course, one of the caveats is that if you want to see members of the forum they need to use the forum feature, and not the email "group".

We control a few central mailing lists this way, but for smaller and more dynamic lists (like the ones where people want to know who is on it) we use Google groups and let the list managers manage their lists. It also allows people to choose the way they receive their messages, daily, all at once etc and gives them access to the forum. We also found that once staff start getting away from the 1990's methods of mailing lists they are more comfortable about using groups for teaching, which has other collaborative advantages as it is a bit more natural way of working for students.

We use a symbolic link between the pac file and the wpad.dat file - so they are the same file. You also need to register wpad in your DNS because browsers look for http://wpad/wpad.dat

I don't mind if Scotland go independent because England are historically better at beating them at war. We might have a chance to beat them at war again provided we get our nukes back of course.

Google didn't get Android to be the most popular operating system by giving it away free. They did it by giving the source code away free. bare in mind that was in spite of microsoft putting the price of android up by forcing royalties for each android sold. -

With Google apps we just upload them to Youtube and restrict the video to people in our domain. Same with pictures.

It's an interpreted language.... It bundles all the libraries that you are using into a packaged .exe

I'd also recommend an MFD, the document autofeed should run through 1000 documents in no time.

Amazingly, two friends of mine have 'won' Xboxes direct from MS to be delivered at the end of the month! A brilliant move by MS because as a direct result I will inherit a free PS3 !!! (do they work with KB/mouse? I'm too old to learn newfangled controls, the Wii was bad enough)

+2 for intellitone. Don't know why we didn't buy one sooner - it's not just a tone generator as does cable verification which you don't get with some of the cheaper ones. You absolutely need to have something like this in your toolkit.

No, according to ESCC a Senior ICT technician is level 4 and grade 7/8. However that doesn't matter because the pay is matched to the Job description and not the title. The job description matches that of a technician and the pay matches that. It's like calling me a "supreme commander of everthing electrical" - sounds cool, but I still only get the pay of a level 5 technician. The official JD's are here: https://czone.eastsussex.gov.uk/schoolpersonnel/recruitment/process/planning/jobdescriptions/supportstaff/Pages/technicians.aspx
