How odd, as they have been my most reliable out of the mix of boards we have.....
-
Anybody actually bought off them? We are treating them with GREAT suspicion. They have come back unbelievely cheap, so we do not want to part with £22,000 with a dodgy company. They are £60 a system cheaper than the people we normally buy off, and these are offering 4 year warrenty and free unpacking of pc's and placing on desks. We do not see how they can do it at the price they are saying. Would you say £340 for a 17" TFT, intel core2duo 2.0ghz, 1gb ram, 160 gig hard, intel branded motherboard, 4 year warrenty and unboxed and placed on desk is too cheap?

Wasn't it 7 if you include SP6a which was released within a month to correct the faults in SP6 which was killing servers? Service Pack 7 got to beta stage, and there was a screenshot from a nasa control station that was running it, but MS pulled the plug on it before it was finished.

I use the Profile Page in the system control to copy to a local folder, and set Everyone on the security part. Then i just copy and paste to the server.

O dear, when i put 2 new DC's in i called one Titanic and the other Olympic, if i had enough cash for a 3rd it would have been Britannic. Titanic has not gone down yet. But then again she's not even a month old.

We currently run ISA Server, which for a proxy i like and does the job well. I saw this Active Image Control on Censornet which looked quite impressive, but you have to pay per connection. Now what i was wondering is, if i still had all kids pointing to our ISA Server, then set the censornet box with AIC on as an upstream proxy, could i get away with just 1 concurrent connection licence, since the only connection is from the 1 box, the ISA Server.

Intermittent performance issues on Windows 2k3
Quackers replied to john_robinson001's topic in Windows
I'm guessing Sophos is the problem, when we had it on workstations and on the 2 we still do the workstation would freeze while it updates, extreamly annoying. -
EduGeek, netiquett and legal consequences

Can we name and shame this company, and not buy their product? I hope it is sophos as i'm down to just 2 stations running it now and hope to say good bye to them soon, the pc's running it grind to a halt when they update, and they are P4 2.8's so not exactly old! Whats the point of Antivirus if it cause's more disruption that if you had a virus. -
Teachers resetting pupil passwords
Quackers replied to dave-a's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Looks good. Can you list the steps you took to create this? 1. Go to an XP Station and make sure the Server admin tools pack is installed. 2. click start, then run, and type mmc 3. File, Add Remove Snap in 4. Click Add 5. Select Active Directory Computers and Users 6. Click Add 7. Click OK 8. You will then have the normal Active Directory user/computer manager, go to the root OU where your pupils are stored. 9. Right Click on the OU and select new window from here 10. Close the other window from the root of the domain as we do not need that. 11. Click View then "New taskpad view" 12. Select Horazontal List as style 13. Click Next and Next again giving the view what ever names you want. 14. Do not run the next wizard. 15. Highlight a user account, then go Action, Edit Task Pad View, then click on the tasks tab. 16. Click NEW then menu command, and then select Reset Password on the right hand pane. Click next, give it an icon. Click Finish close the boxes. Now when you click a user you get the reset password icon appear. 17. Now just do a tidy up, get the view as you want it, click file options give it a name, icon for the console, save the console and create a shortcut to it on a shared drive and as along as the admin tools are install on the station it will work. Sorry if i have missed a bit off, i'm rushed this morning. -
Teachers resetting pupil passwords
Quackers replied to dave-a's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Your best option and cheapest is to install the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 admin tools onto all workstations, which is an msi you can download. Then using the Microsoft Managment Console, add the Users and Computers snap in, then create a custom tasks view, and save it. Put a shortcut to it on your staff desktops, and also give deligation for staff to reset passwords permission the root OU of the pupil user accounts. I've attched a screen shot of the password manager i created using this process. Only takes 5 minutes max to create. -
Cheers Geoff, i'll give that ago and see if it does the trick!

The HAL looks like its the one it should be. Where do i find these SMP Patches?

We started with PARSql and went to PARS.net about 1.5 years after. Non of the staff like PARS.net much, they all prefer PARSql, and so do i too. It loads faster is not as bloated and does not have a new release every week. There has been more than 50 updates since we put PARS.net on. So staff like to use the old one.

Anybody done a RIS image of a laptop with Centrino in? We have 2 different spec laptops with this Centrino in and i cannot use RIS images on them. I install Windows XP Service Pack 2 on them, put all software on, run ripprep, up the image, alter the sif file. Then when i bring the image back down all files copy, but on starting the "mini setup" part or the RIS install the machine(s) just grind to a halt, even 12 hours later they have still not done it. You can see the dots going on forever, and the scrolling green bars under the Windows XP logo (on the black screen) moving so slow you think its gonna hang. If i do a a RIS Image of the same laptop with Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows XP no Service Pack it runs fine. Its only with SP2 on. Now when i did the same thing but used sysprep with WDS it works no problem. So i'm really confused!

Anybody run this? It sounds nice, but i'm wondering how parients access information. Does it intergrate with active directory and the parient logs in as the student and see's the data? or is it another several hundred logins to manager just for parient access?
-
What level of access do you give your student teachers? I have been giving them the same as teachers so they can change pupils passwords, add printer credit and write to the shared area's. Now last week i had 15GB free on the server that does the shared area's. I got a phone call today saying that some staff could not write to the shared area, i have a look and there is 136kb of free space 8O . Any guess to where that 15GB went? Yep a student teacher had dumped 15GB of MP3's into the ICT Shared area. So now i'm wondering if in future it might be better to give them the same level of access as normal students to stop little incidents like this.

i remember back in the 90's i could find loads of zips for download full of hundreds of icons (ico files). Now when i search google all i get back are pay ones with the odd free sample. Does anybody have a zip full of loads of icons or know a place that does?
