  1. Coming into year 8 now and we still have 2 Projectors that have been used on Interactive whiteboards since 2000 and thats all day every school day and they are still going strong. Normally go through 1 bulb every year. Not changing them until either they just break or picture quality goes poor from heat damage. They are Sanyo PLC-SU30's . Just had change 2 Sanyo SU20b's bought the same year as the SU30's just a few months before, the image quality was very poor, had been for last year but just lived with it, but went very bad in the last few months. Been buying the Epson's in recently at a very good price and been very impressed with them so far, love the EMP-X52 .
  2. O i hate that saying 8O XP Service Pack 1 caused me headaches, when XP no Service Pack was working fine. (The clitch where you got access denied, the file is in use when trying to delete a file off a network drive) XP Service Pack 2 had that Applying Personal Settings for an hour clitch, (well not really an hour, but put a 30 second delay on) which MS took over a year from me contacting them to do somthing about it. I've found it does not matter where you jump in, there is a patch needed. With it being just a Deployment box and nothing to mission critical, ie a domain controller, might download the RC1 of 2008 Server and use it in production for pushing images out, if it breaks i will still have my old 2003 RIS/WDS box sitting there to fix things.....
  3. That would cost more, plus i know what i'm doing with WDS and RIS.
  4. Its the Windows Deployment Services with Multicast, means i can image PC's a hell of a lot faster then i currently can, so it will just be on my RIS/WDS Server.
  5. I've found it now, theres a timer on the MS site counting down the days, only 82 days to go, YEY.
  6. Does anybody know what the latest release date is for Windows Server 2008? As i'm getting different dates when i google it. There is 1 feature it has i really REALLY want, so i shall buy as soon as it hits the market.
  7. You need to know what controllers they are, download the Mass Storage drivers for them, then in your ristndrd.sif file add the lines from the SCSI section of the drivers inf to the ristndrd.sif file, your also then need to list the driver files in the ristndrd.sif for example, [MassStorageDrivers] "Intel® ICH9 SATA AHCIController (Desktop ICH9R)" = OEM "Intel® 82801HEM SATA RAID Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E)" = OEM "Intel® 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)" = OEM "Intel® ICH8R/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller" = OEM "Intel® 82801HR/HH/HO SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH8R)" = OEM "Intel® 631xESB/632xESB SATA RAID Controller (Server/Workstation ESB2)" = OEM "Intel® 631xESB/632xESB SATA AHCI Controller (Server/Workstation ESB2)" = OEM "Intel® 82801GHM SATA RAID Controller (Mobile ICH7MDH)" = OEM "Intel® 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)" = OEM "Intel® 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)" = OEM "Intel® 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M/DH)" = OEM "Intel® 82801FBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH6M)" = OEM [OEMBootFiles] iaAhci.inf iaStor.sys iaAhci.cat Txtsetup.oem copy the drivers over to your $OEM$ structure in a folder called TEXTMODE and it will detect your hard disks. Its a pain, the first time, but once you get your head around it you'll be ok.
  8. This is happening while the teachers are using the boards.
  9. We have just recently installed 10 new Promethean Boards some being run of laptops , some off PC's. The ones running of PC's are fine, but the ones running off laptops like to just lock up now and again (different age and different model laptops). Only way to get it to work is to unplug the USB cable from the laptop and plug it back in again. Anybody else had this problem?
  10. If your using the 2.5 Beta you can use To enabled WDP, run the following command from an administrator account: "C:\Program files\Windows SteadyState\sctui.exe" /EnableWDPAndReboot To disable WDP: "C:\Program files\Windows SteadyState\sctui.exe" /DisableWDPAndReboot
  11. I always drive to London, know a tube station right off junction 4 of the M1 with secure carparking and only 2 pounds a day at weekends to park. Cheap and easy.
  12. For everyone else who is unhappy with the peice of junk, i just ran into another issue, where i had to manually verify 100+ students when the exam was due to start there and then, when i phoned up support at the end i said this software is junk i need exambase back, he said i need to contact [email protected] and make it for the attention of Emma Vann , so intend on e-mailing her today and complaining like mad. Hope you lot will do the same to show that there are some unhappy people.
  13. WinInstall LE, the one thats on the Windows 2000 Server CD.
  14. I've just pushed out an MSI of Administrator last night to 120 stations, which has worked, except the NTFS permissions have been set to Administrator full control, and nothing else. So i had to use group policy to alter the permissions after, which was a bit odd.
  15. I'm currently trying to set an exam for the first time since it changed from Exam Base. I'm not impressed. Exam base just worked, this Promiser software with the edexcel web site is a joke, talk about a down grade.
  16. Think he means http://www.securitytracker.com/alerts/2006/Jun/1016234.html Mr happy
  17. We somtimes have over 50 clients connected to 1 AP at one time, when say 2 rooms next to each other both book a 30 machine laptop trolly. We get no complaints of speed issues, and i was in the rooms the first time i knew that many laptops would be in 1 area to see how it handled it. You either have way to much being redirected on the laptops to network resources so traffic per client is way to large, or your getting interference. What AP's are you using? D-Link 2100 AP Got 20 of them round the school, all alternating between channel 1,6 and 11 making sure non of them overlap in channel number. Runs all staff laptops with sims and pars etc , and all 120 student use laptops fine.

  19. Ours gets the unencrypted ftp treatment to county :? They can't get their head around sftp You think thats bad, a Big Blue company has the contract for one of the big banks to deal with all sales transactions and that information is sent over the internet in clear text 8O , they think thats fine though. I know because my friend works for this big blue company.
  20. I found Acer's responce quite poor when i phoned up and asked where the XP Drivers were for a new laptop He asked "What model laptop is it" i gave him the model he replyed "we've never sold that model with XP only Vista so we do not supply XP Drivers, you'll have to note down the hardware and try and find them manually on the internet" I did manage to find them, but it can not be difficult for acer to add them to there site.
  21. Our COWS (Computers on wheels) are all Acer, and we've had them for 1.5 years now. They seem to have dropped by about 15 minutes in life, so we only get 3 and a bit lessons out of them instead of the full 4 now. But its rare they are needed for all morning without a break to graze on electricity before being milked by the students. Battery life is my biggest concern but so far all is good, was expecting to have to replace 120 laptop batterys after a year, but i've been proven wrong. Biggest pain is looking after the heard, moving them from room to room.
  22. Would anybody be able to up some screen shots of Lesson monitor, would like to see what the interface is like as we have run PARSql for years and staff loved it, the September SIMS update broke PARSql and tasc's reply was its unsupported and you should be running PARS.net which one or two staff have but most do not because they do not like the .net version, and PARSql is a lot faster and cleaner, so i can see why, plus i've seen what feels like over 100 updates for PARS.net in the last 2 years which seems to alternate certain things between broke and fixed So we wanna dump PARS and go to Lesson Monitor (At least thats what the SLT Team want to do anyway!)
  23. No A or Start on this model.
  24. I know some sanyo's have hidden menu's, that you access by pressing certain keys like the select or up arrow for 20 seconds. Was wondering if there is one on this model (XW20A) to get how many hours the lamp has done. Instruction manual does not say anything.
  25. I have the OU for Staff laptops in loopback mode, as i do not want things like folder redirection being applyed on them.
