The only issue I have found is that hitting "print" to get the codes candidates need to log on with produces...nothing! Anyway, that aside, I think these are far better than KS3 tests (which I am still running this year). But the jury is out. I have 80 students on Friday taking the ALAN tests- so time will tell Download the Print Utility, then it will work.

If only it was that easy. In staffordshire we have a group of monkeys running the county it unit, and the thought of opening up a port sends shivvers down their spin. They just would not do it, it would be a security risk they would say.

Anybody have any idea how much one of these would cost for a 500 metre run. We want a network connection from our school to the youthclub, and make there PC's part of our system. Just wondering what the cheapest way to go about it would be? 10 Meg should be enough.

I do not think MS can win. When they try and make there OS a bit more secure and bullet proof, by making everyone run as a user by default and then making you elevate your self to make any system changes people complain about how annoying it is, then when its turned off (because its annoying) people complain how insecure there OS is and how easy it is to take it over because people are surfing the net as an admin and clicking crackz and porn. How do they win? what should they do?

Nokia N95 ? You say you wanted a decent camera, it has a 5 Megapixel Carl Zeiss lens in it, and TV out. When i plugged it into the TV to playback a video it blew me away, my jaw dropped. Chuck your camcorder and digital camera away, its that good. The flash is blinding. The screen is massive for a mobile, built in stereo speakers which are quite loud, built in satnav, with voice navigation, and its light too and no bigger than a Nokia N80, infact its slimmer. Has a 3Dfx card in to so people can program graphics intense games for it. It says the persons name when they call too, so it play a tune, fade the music out say "Dave" then fade the music back in, a HTML Browser with Java and Flash support, QuickOffice, Adobe Reader. But the good thing is it still a mobile and not a massive PDA with a big bludge sticking out of your pocket. I do not know how they can fit so much kit on such a small device. Can you tell Nokia gave me one for free for being part of Nokia's feedback study group?

How much money you got to play with, we use Geovison cards at our school, found they are very good, but a decent card is £500 each. Then you need a decent PC to put it in, then buy the camera's.

Teachers installing illegal software on laptops
Quackers replied to _Bat_'s topic in School ICT Policies

The vast majority of the world has reliable networks without CC3. The ONLY time i would recommend CC3 is when you have the IT Teacher in charge of the network and no technicains, then CC3 takes the role of "Network Manager/Technician". But when you have onsite technicians there is simply no excuse for having CC3. Back in the 90's there was a case for Connect 2.x , as most schools needed to use Windows 9x and they just simply were not designed by microsoft for the school enviroment and they were lacking the tools for managing them in the school enviroment, those tools were with NT (Microsoft Systems Manager) and most school apps would not run on NT 4 Workstation. RM did a half decent job in making tools for 9x clients and made it worth spending the money, even in the older days of Windows 3.1, the RMNETLM system made 3.1 easy to manage. But now NT is on everyones desk almost in the form of XP and the tools are there out of the box from Microsoft, with the exception of print quota.

Your script should be used as a startup script not a logoff script. Maybe thats why its hanging.

You should only need the /q switch.

Took me and the caretaker 40 minutes yesterday to do 30 laptops. I unscrewed and unclipped the card, he cut the strip of tape , put it on, then i tested it and screwed back on. It will make your blue light stay on perm. It will be worth it in the longrun.
-
If your going to do it then make sure the "notch" is on the left and count to the 7th pin accross (including the one to the left of the notch) tape that 1 pin and the one behind it on the other side. If you have problems i'll take try and upload a diagram photo.

If like me your have this card in your laptop trolly laptops and are forever been called to them because a student cannot logon cause some shit has flicked the wireless hardware switch to off then i've found a fix. If you put tape over pin 14 and 7 on the mini pci card then put it back in the laptop then the card ignores the hardware switch and is always on and the hardware button no longer works Just thought i would share this in case anyone else is being drivin up the wall by these hardware switchs.

I would do it on the OU for the machines, then do a gpupdate /force on each laptop. If you want to lock things down you still can, anything you do in this policy under the user section gets applied to everyone who logs on one of those PC's including Administrators. Replace is prob the best option as merg would still bring your folder redirection accross.

Enable "User Group Policy Loopback Processing Mode" . Its under Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, Group Policy.

We have 3 laptop trollys and all works fine but there is one annoyance. They have Wireless On/Off Hardware switchs which the kids sometimes catch or press, which as you guessed stops the kids logging on as there is no network connectoion and the kids never check to see if the light is on, just scream i cannot logon. Now when you install the drivers one option is WMI support, does that mean i can create a script to see to see if the hardware switch is on or off and then make a box appear telling the student it is off?
-
Can only guess that they remote desktop connected to it and logged on.

Cannot have Apache on this box has to be using IIS as other services are running on this box through IIS.

Does anybody know where i can download MySQL 4.x PHP 4.x.x Joomla is driving me insane. I downloaded MySQL 5 and PHP 5.somthing and i can get to install1.php then install2.php is just a blank page with no errors. Looking around a few people have this and fix it by going to older versions of MySQL and PHP, but can i find them anywhere for download??? I'm gonna go crazy!!!

Only way i can currently think of would be to edit the msgina.dll and just delete the box.
