Anybody know if there is a way to show what software is being installed when its being pushed out via group policy? On XP you would add the software to the group policy, reboot the pc's that policy controls and it would say "Installing managed software Microsoft Office 2003 Pro" for example. On vista the software installs, but when its installing it just says "Please wait", giving no information about what its actually doing.

everything you should need should be on this site, http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/office/ork/default.mspx You need the Office 2007 Resource Kit.

I've used it my self a bit, and i hated going back to Office 2003. I cannot wait until we have money to buy it. Its the interface i like most, everything is always where you need it, one click away. Not tried it on an Admin machine yet to see how Sims likes it.

Any reason this instead of full control? Windows Server gives the user full control when you set the homedirectory path in Active Directory.

I think its what ever you need. I have System - Full Control User - Full Control Domain Admins Full Control Staff - Full Control (Not a personal favorite, but it was a requested feature when we changed network 3 years ago, i'm here to serve, not dictate)

Which school you at jimmckenna? It dropped my wage by £5000 (so todays news is very pleasing). How much would it have dropped you?

We use networked machines in music and we have Sibelius. Get the network edition it saves a lot of hassel! You run a local licensing server. Just your everyday P4 with at half a gig of ram should be more than comfortable.

Can you opt out of the ICT part of BSF? If for example you have an interactive white board in everyroom, a very good ratio of PC's to students all good spec, several laptop trollys, staff all with laptops, and everything is working great and mangement is happy with the way things are, are they forced stop this way of working and have a nightmare?

Wonder if lots of schools started moving from Windows/Office Microsoft would give it to education for almost nothing , like £1 a license.

Staffordshire Job evaluation - Are you affected?
Quackers replied to adicken's topic in Educational IT Jobs
How much is your head fighting newbus? Our's has said they will take the council to court (its an option) or just not do it , they can apparently "opt out", she tells us. She's refusing to allow the pay cuts. -
Do you not have a RIS box on your network you could use to bring Windows XP down to the laptop via a network cable?

If you use Intel Wireless cards you should be able to enable "Pre logon connect" in the Intel Wireles Profile. This makes sure the wireless is connected and working before the logon screen appears. Only time we have the problem in this thread is when a pupil has turned the wireless off with the button on the laptop.

A liitle birdy tells me that schools will be made exempt from this job evaluation in staffordshire due to a clause saying goveners say what pay staff are on. -
Microsoft Vista and Office 2007: Interim report
Quackers replied to CyberNerd's topic in School ICT Policies
I'm sorry where the HELL do they get there info from? I always thought Becta was a group of monkeys. They claim a typical Primary School will cost £4000 to move to Office 2007, and £26,000 for a typical high school? How many primary schools do you know with 130 workstations or 800 workstations in a "typical" high school. ? -
You never been on the RM Forums? Its full of problems

Have you set both the NTFS File permission and the SHARE permission to write? I suspect one of those is still set to read.

Is there anything that does what MS Info path does but for web based forms instead of having to have info path installed on the machine. When it comes to web based databases with submits etc i do not have a clue (i'd like to if i could ever find some step by step basic guides on the net that i understand) So until i understand the code i need an infopath style software to make it.

Redirected folders AND mandatory profiles...can this be done
Quackers replied to spacemanvic's topic in Windows
The best way to do it would be 1 OU for each "group" of PC's Have a script for each group (applied via group policy) that on startup a) deletes all profiles useing delprof b) using robocopy sync a predefined user profile with 1 that you specify to C:\Documents and Settings\Default User So when a user log's on, Windows creates a copy of this profile for the user at logon. Its as fast as the local disk (so not effected by network bandwidth), plus you get better peformance than redirecting the startmenu or desktop to a network share. User messes up there profile, reboot PC and all should be back to your pre defined setup. No delprof for Vista yet so i'm having problems, MS have the "User Profile Service" on Vista now, so i'm thinking they might not even bring one out. Which is a pain as the only group policy option that comes close using this is delete profiles older than 24 hours old. -
I do not hate MS, i think they are a good company, and if it was not for them i do not think we would see a PC in as many places as we do today.
