Dial up? In what way? The Logon using Dialup networking on the logon screen? Dialup Connections in Network Control Panel? I do not understand.
-
to be honest if you class that as an acceptable security policy I give up! Thats the share permission, you cannot write to you home directory with read permissions on the share . The NTFS permissions stop them doing anything
-
Well maybe such a tool is not needed. Can you remind me how you also set the NTFS/Share permissions to give Domain Admin/User FC (ie everyone else has no permission to share, unlike default share permission!) in under 5 minutes as well. Because, if that is so easy I agree such a tool would not be required. And yes I am using the word provisioning in that the end goal will be take the data straight from the MIS system. Initial support would have been for Excel. But it looks like there is no real need for such a tool from some of the feedback? Create 1 share for the user's home directory's, ie homes. NTFS Permissions give domain users read (This Folder ONLY) domain admins full system full Then create a folder for each year group, ie 2000, 2001, 2002 on each of these folders i give group 2000 read (This folder ONLY) domain admins full group staff (full, read depending on what you want) system full. Now when you click User Home Directory and set the path to \\server\homes\2000\%username% a directory with the users username is automatically made and all permissions set correctly, so only that user and what every permissions are inherated are allowed in. (Just make sure the share permissions are set to allow everyone to write.

Its so easy to already with what comes with Windows i do not see the need for such a tool. simply open excel In column A put the word net - drag down to put the word net in as many cells as you need In column B put the word user - drag down to put the word user in as many cells as you need In column C put the Username you want (i paste from NovaT) In column D put the password you want In column E put /add and drag down to put /add in as many cells as you need. Then highlight it all, copy, open notepad, do edit paste. Save it as somthing.bat and run it on a domain controller, and bang, all users added in seconds and appear in the Users container. Now copy them to OU needed, highlight all users right click, properties, click the profile tab, tick home directory put \\servername\share\year\%username% as the profile location and Windows Server will create all the home directorys for you and set the right permissions. All done in less than 5 minutes, and very easy.

If i do that, do you know how i make a page load in it.

I'm not web page guru, so i need a little help in this department. If you have Dreamweaver 2004 and Click New, Page Designs (CSS) and say select Three-Column Right Nav, as a nice template design, then all is good, and you can fill in the content. The point i get confused with is how do i get the content in the center to change while keeping all the menu's around the same when i click one of the links for example? I know how to do things like "" with asp files, but i do not think thats what i am suppost to do here. Am i being thick?

You think that them having MP3's in there area is bad, i had to explain to the head teacher and rest of SMT why A) Limewire cannot run through the schools internet connection, and that B) Downloading music from it for school assemblys would be illegal unless they owned the CD, in which case limewire would not be needed in the first place, and thats the people at the top. -
Those that have used sysprep before should be ok, but for those that have not, you create your Image as you want, then make a folder on the root of C:\ called Sysprep. In there copy sysprep.exe and setupcl.exe . Also pop in a sysprep.inf file like the one below..... ;SetupMgrTag [unattended] OemSkipEula=Yes [userData] ProductID=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx FullName = "Fullname" OrgName = "Orgname" ComputerName = %MACHINENAME% [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=1 SystemLocale=00000809 UserLocale=00000809 InputLocale=0809:00000809 [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword="password" EncryptedAdminPassword=NO OemSkipWelcome = 1 OemSkipRegional = 1 TimeZone = %TIMEZONE% [Display] BitsPerPel = 32 XResolution = 1024 YResolution = 768 VRefresh = 60 [Networking] [NetServices] MS_Server=params.MS_PSched [identification] JoinDomain = %MACHINEDOMAIN% DoOldStyleDomainJoin = Yes then run sysprep.exe and click run mini setup and the click reseal. Next you need to upload the image to a server, so you can either boot into the Image Capture Utility which you can create from the WDS Managment tool, or you can boot into Windows PE which again can be made from the WDS Managment tool. If you choose the Image Capture Utility follow the instructions, if you choose Windows PE you need to map a network drive to your WDS Server, go to the folder with ImageX in, and the run the following command "imagex.exe /compress fast /capture c: X:\4222A.wim "Name of the Image here" /verify" (replace X with your mapped network drive letter). Once uploaded go to the WDS Console on the server and add that image in, the boot of network and select that image. To create the Windows Capture Utility Boot thingy, you need to go in to the WDS Console, Click Bootimages, right click your Windows Vista Image and select Create Capture Boot Image, once created add this new image in. Thats how to do a Windows XP Image using WDS. Sorry if its a bit all over the place, i've only just got to grips with it my self. Windows Vista is the same, except you have to use the Vista version of Sysprep, and you use XML Answerfiles

Do not know how much Deep Freeze costs, but that i think would be the best solution. We use the Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit to do the same kind of thing and it works wonders, but it does not support Windows 98.

Finally got to the bottom of my hal.dll error, for some reason on the second machine even with no partitions the first one being made was being made partition 2, so the boot.ini was looking in the wrong place. All fixed now and loving WDS
-
I've got WDS working with XP, i can capture and deploy an XP image to the same PC, with CD Key and domain join etc all automated after like i had in RIS, BUT if i try to put the image on another identical laptop i get the corrupt or missing hal.dll message after the image has been applyed. Anybody else have this? Its bugging me.
-
Thats a hard question, its not easy in the sense that you have to forget how you do things in RIS and learn a new way. But once you get to grips with the new way its good.
-
Anybody using ImageX on Windows Deployment Services yet and said goodbye to RIS? Been playing With Windows XP Deployment this way today and i like it so far. With Vista round the corner i thought i had better prep up and learn the new way and was pleased to find you can do XP the same way too!

I'm getting it from licensing.microsoft.com

Its in my Technet download list......

Whilst it looks good, and maybe would be OK for desktop PC's it would die on wireless laptops. I've got a copy but never used it, was going to give it an evaluation to see how well it worked, but once i looked more into the way it worked i back off.

Not gonna happen. They would lose 8 Million potential viewers over night, it would cripple them to say the least. I do not know what has changed since it was rebadged Virgin Media, but my experience of NTL TV is that its gotta be the worst in the world. The remote is not layed out very well (you can use the Sky without looking no problem), the EPG is very poor, Sky's EPG really shows it up, and i've seen the interactive button make the box lock up lol, 8O . Sky have there TV system just right, with the technology NTL have they should be able to do much better since they can send signals back via the cable system very fast, Sky just has a 33.6K modem in it. but no, they have a slow, difficult to use buggy system.

How much did Citrix cost you ?
-
Anybody here using Citrix then? I'm thinking to use it for PARS and SIMS for staff, would they work with it?
-
I'm sure a few years ago that i saw some nice software that allowed you to run any program as a web based application. I thought it was Citrix, but i cannot find anything on there site. Does anybody know what i'm on about?
