The filter is a very precise bit of kit and prices vary from £12 to around £150 then they have to be set up , no you just cant slip it in the same place and hope it will work, the projectopr will have to be set up for black after install. There have been some problems with them, but most should be still covred by your warrenty, the EX 32 had other problems dust for one, but the EX40 is a good projector and cheaper than the Epson equivelent. Yes the Hitachi is a good unit the board will use either promethian or Smart software and their Ultra close focus projector is very good to, what you wont get of course is the inbuilt software that is in the Unifi range. Also the Sanyo projectors you have i would be pleased to know who charged you £300 for a service/repair on these as a normal price would be normally £70, and that will restore most to near original condition. Ok Skylink, it needs 5 volts to work from the second out of your sky unit, if you use an amp for your signal most will not pass the five volts to enable the skylink to work, so you need one that is compatable and allows the 5v to pass through, your poor signal looks like you may have a poor connection as well this will also stop the 5v from getting to the skylink, make sure your coaxe plugs have the center pin soldred a good engineer will always do this but when fitted by a friend or a home fit, it is often disregarded as not being important, trust me this is important and makes a huge differance to the signal. Hi yes i have experiance in all of the above, lets deal with the esiest first, yes you can mount speakers and plug them in to a wall socket i recomend active speakers like the ones fited with active boards. Portable smartboards are no problem to wall mount, they have a plastic hanging bracket screwed to the wall and the board just hangs on it only problem with smart is they will not supply the bottom baracket without a whiteboard but will supply the top one?????? you can use top one only but it will have movement. The pin hole may have broken one of the wires in the board very unlucky if it has, chances of hitting a wire must be same as winning the lottery maybe you should buy a ticket. Marc Engineer

Yes thats the one, its comonly called the electronics pack and not normally supplied to none engineers, no dont ask me i dont know why? But if you fit it and it doesnt cure the fault you just spent £400, if an engineer fits it and it dont work he will remove it again and continue with the fault finding. Marc Engineer

After the first year? they carry a 3 year warrenty, but anyway, most of the faults we see are PSUs replacement £30 the electronics pack (if you get the dredded spiking) is around £400 and no you cant fit it yourself ! On smart mostly broken VGA sockets and damaged boards from objects banged in to them as they are not very robust by comparasen. Price for a bare plastic VGA face plate £50 (yes fifty pounds), promethian one £5 (five pounds). Clever boards????? hmmm never seen a broken one built like a tank. A projector should last 5 to 7 years if serviced properly and lamps changed at the correct times and not left in till they pop. Most projectors will survive a lamp explosion, most parts will be glass and should be contained within the lamp refector housing, if unsure give me a ring and i will try to help you more with any projector problems. Marc- Engineer

I would still recomend the Epson over all other types it will mean you have to have a small DVD player (preferable to a laptop) cost around £30. Marc

AS a portable projector i would look at Epson as they have no cool down time so are instant OFF, most others you will have to allow to cool down before moving and also are very sensitive to knocks when on or cooling also look at lamp prices, the Epson are from around £130 for a lamp, and for educatio have a 4 year on site cover. Thats why they are better for mobile as they have NO cool off period as others do, they can also be moved while on a definate NO NO with all others. Also any problem with Epsons is sorted ON SITE by Epson for 4 years. They come with a carry case and have an inbuilt dust cover. Marc PS no i dont work for Epson

I would recomend an epson for your type of use the Epson X6 would be a good choice with 4 year ON SITE guarantee and lamps around £130 fior replacement, also they are instant off so no cooling time required ideal for mobile use. Projectors almost always can be revived, the most damage is done when lamps are run past the change time, most lamps should be changed at around 2500 Hrs regardless of what the claims might be, Projector lamps are of the ARC type and consume large amounts of current this goes up with age and will damage the projector if left beyond the change time, many lamps are left in till they dont light any more this WILL damge the projector, check your lamp hours and change lamps at 2500, i know some of you will say mine will do 4000 hrs but trust me changing at 2500 is cheaper in the long run giving you longer projector life. It is also important to have them deep cleaned by approved engineers, i have seen a lot of companys offering this service but please always ask if they are approved. There are also many projectors available and i have seen so often the wrong projector is supplied for the job also on going costs should always be taken in to account as some lamps are very very expencive to replace, and some projectors need more in the way of cleaning than others. I would always be pleased to offer help and advice i have worked (repaired and serviced) 1,000s of projectors. Marc

Hi, if you boot the laptop with the projector connected do you gaet and image from it at any stage? I have seen many times the graphics output drop with age and will not provide enough PtoP Voltage to power a particular projector, but will work fine with another combination of projector / computer. Do younot have a projector supplier? i can recomend several for you if required, it is important to change the lamps at the listed Hrs or it will damage your projector, We see more damaged projectors from customers not changing lamps that any other problem. Marc

Hi, resetting the lamp will not help you, sounds lamp related though, it maybe you need a new lamp i dont suppose you have one to try. Or i have seen on some the thermal sensor drop from its fixed position and cause this problem try the projector the other way up if this cures it, it is the sensor if not i would try a different lamp. How old is the lamp how many hrs on it, that model has an hrs counter in the menu. It there any chance that this projector may have been switched off at any time with oue being allowed to cool? Marc

I think you will find the Epson EMP S5 and the EMP X5 is 4 year as long as you buy for ediucation the price is Just over £400 depending on Model, also only one filter to clean and instant off with very cheap lamps around £130 Marc
