could be as simple as a self assesment return... similar to the condition surveys that come into estates Is your wifi <at this standard or above> is your internet access <at this standard or above> if not give a rationale. then the info could be there for the dfe to make decisions

the whole CTC thing is stupid, weve spent years upgrading our infrastructure to enable the adoption of 1:1 or as close to it as we can get and enable teachers with technology. This has often meant going without to get the ground work right before we commit to the shiny stuff... Now mismanaged schools get it for free and at a level we could never afford... so why bother upgrading... lets just all buy the latest shiny stuff and then wait for the dfe to maintain the infrastructure... 🙄 Not to even mention the top of the line gear being installed under CTC is WAY outside the affordability of the schools to maintain going forward, need to replace or extend something? good luck. What should be happening is ringfenced funding so that it cant just be moved around for another pet project.

thats gotta be inc vat or something...

ask around, ours is from probrand currently, Verypc do it, JTRS. Play them against eachother. I just made it clear i am looking for redstor, you add no value im buying from the cheapest supplier. If you already use redstor they can port your backup accounts between Resellers so you dont have to reupload everything

Chrome OS Flex, any problems I should be aware of?
DGardiner replied to Caffeine11's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
ive not used it since it became flex, but when it was neverware there was a list of stuff it couldnt do from a config standpoint. wasnt a complete show stopper but some of it was the security side. i quick google did show thats not as much the case now: https://support.google.com/chromeosflex/answer/11542901?hl=en if you buy the licences you can also transfer them from the flex devices to real chromebooks within a year -

£60pm per agent - the consultant setup is quite steep but so far its been worth it for the guidance. Weve basically jumped because of all the integration options we have with other tools as fn-gm said the automation oppurtunities are really nice. In our trial period we managed to setup user provisioning in google from the servicedesk through an approval workflow for new staff, and access assignments via another approval workflow not sure if were gonna do that going forward but was a fun lets see what we can do with an afternoon hacking something together -

Where do we stand procurement wise? Can we just accept this move and not end up in hot water? We have 13 schools on scholarpack, Can they just shift us to arbor? or would this trigger a procurement excersise? or do we need to wait and see if bromcom decide to lawyer up?

How do you...stop staff from emailing the wrong person!
DGardiner replied to Netwacky87's topic in How do you do....it?

We have a custom directory enabled and only publisdh staff to staff, makes emailing kids a bit of a chore but it stopped the accidents immediately -
just be careful if youre getting someone to run it for you, they try to apply the pay by extension format on you and when i was looking if was anywhere form £5-£10 per. and they eat the benefit of 3cx. the licence and server resources are buttons. We pay our local company around 302/pm for hosting the server/licencing(32 Sim Call is more than enough for us)/trunks/server support - we havent bundled minutes onto the trunks so have calls on top, but that was our choice that serves 14 Schools, at around 390 extensions total

i mean, i laughed but its silly... I dont disagree with the intent of it though -
is this fixed in 24h2 yet? Its annoying not having the file explorer/etc icons at the bottom of the start menu - doesnt seem to be a gpo for any of it either

Passwords on attachments
DGardiner replied to enjay's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
We have had the same for years, one LA used 7zip to password files and we did that fine, others wouldnt. We bought egress and now some refuse to use that -
yeah, we have everything since the beggining of using google, a 5 year old email saved us from a financial issue and caught a dodgy energy supplier with fake "authorisations" from someone who left 2 years ago to broker our energy supplies for all of our schools for the next 10 years i think id argue until we upgrade to the licence that has the dlp labels in google and make sure we have really good labeling proccesses that we dont delete anything
