Compatible or Supported?! We're migrating to windows 11 now and running it on custom build i7's from 2011 with ASUS boards. With an i7-2600K, 8GB ram and SSD performance is great and no stability issues, until we need to replace.

Students using laptops are on AC power so if power loss file still saved to the local machine Students using desktops, they save the exam files to network drive auto every 1 minute so if power loss work upto the last minute is saved as all core and servers on UPS

used to but apparently SLT state has 'educational resources' on so we use it in restricted mode, but has now become the place for searching 'unblocked school sites' - joy!

we set them at the copier company charges per page then add on for paper.

have you thought about moving away from chassis core to stacked core? we now run dlink 3130's in a full ring stack, servers connected to all switches, edge switches dual links or use the 1gb sfp as backups to our separate 10gb switch so have full redundancy in event of single switch/sfp failure at edge/core along with redundant power on the 3130s one on ups one on mains ac

since changing our login script from running the cache version to just pc client we've had zero calls about papercut not loading

you can export the lanmanserver reg key to backup shares and share permissions. folders will keep their acls when you install new os version then reimport the reg file and they will be shared again.

As we've started to roll out windows 11, we've had reports that the volume icon , clock etc have gone missing from the users login on windows 10. On windows 11 with a test user account I see the clock, volume icon etc, however the same user on windows 10 now doesnt see the icons. If i allow the user to get into the taskbar icon settings, I can toggle the volume, clock etc back on for that user. For the sake of testing, i've gone into GPO and disabled to not show the volume icon, however this doesnt make any difference. Anyone else seen this before and what to try next to restore it? thanks.

Yes, i already have this setup as a server share where it saves the license files IF the user has internet. however the point I am making is that when exam accounts are logged on without any internet, they cannot activate. and I cannot log over 100 exam accounts on with internet, remove it and then assume they are going to work for 30 days etc without needing to contact the internet. as for device based licensing, our reseller reckon they don't sell the license based on the article microsoft support sent me?!

proxy is scuppered in GPO with a fake proxy, which also means they cannot connect to the internet!

What about IT exams where they use office files but not allowed the internet?

Are the licenses that are stored on network share not restricted to same machine/user? each exam account would not usually login to the same machine,?

Did you come up with a solution to this?

Just an update - I have restored the physical machine captured image back to the Hyper-V VM and that's restored absolutely fine, so appears to be an issue restoring any image to a physical machine.

I've setup and been configuring MDT for Windows 11 deployment over the weekend. Created a Win11 VM on Hyper-v captured it, restored it successfully and added to network and all working fine as expected. Today have restored the image to a bare metal machine, and got the error below. I then created a new image on a physical PC, captured it , restored it, but then got the same error. please could anyone advise/assist why capture/restore on VM works, but capture, restore or restore of any image to physical hardware fails with the above error in photo? thanks.

ah thank you! I've just setup first deployment tool to install Windows 11 and a success but selected to join to workgroup. will now create a base image, capture and redeploy and test joining to domain with existing name.

I'm currently playing around with MDT with the possibility of using to Deploy windows 11. For win10 I create a fat image and then use 3rd party software to deploy the image to PCs in 7 minutes with all required software, name and network the machine of which when join to the domain it finds the existing computer account and then at reboot assigns any GPOs etc. With MDT, can it use the existing account? WHen setting it up I had to specify an OU but guessing you have to delete the existing account before you can image and name the machine the same as it was before? Correct me if i'm wrong but can i setup MDT/WDS to use the same PC account when re-imaging a machine so it's already in the right OU without moving it afterwards? thanks.
