One of our schools in trust are on RM Broadband - mighty expensive! Moving them back to emPSN network at the end of their contract which will save the school about £7k per year! THis is for connection only.

1 school £0 - LEA funded for 100mb on 100mb circuit on emPSN 1 school currently £9,200 for 200mb on 1gb circuit, however moving them back to emPSN which will then be £1351.03 per annum This is line only costs, school pay for filtering which is about £4k per year for own chosen solution.

Yes, but same updates have been applied to identical servers without any issues. server is now fully up to date on all updates.

I have a HP proliant server which has been running fine for a long time. Over the last few weeks it keeps randomly crashing without warning. Not much untoward in the event logs as to any reason why, however I have the extract from the HP Integrated log below> can anyone shed any light why this would start happening?

It looks like it's the usual Exchange delay, and wait. Just re-tested and now i'm being prompted to change password on OWA, whereas RemoteAPP was instant! All sorted!

I haven’t changed any settings, those were the settings that were showing as already there and enabled, when I went to check.

I've got both RemoteApp and Exchange OWA installed on site. When i create new users and select in their account properties, change password at next login, Remote APP acknowledges this and the user can change their password. However, when they login to Exchange 2016 OWA, it will log them in with the pre-set password without any issues, and no prompt to change their password. I've checked the OWA virtual directories - Change password feature is ticked. I've the checked the registry - changeexpiredpasswordenabled is set to 1 Either way the setting is just ignored. Any ideas? Thanks.

D-Link no longer do Core chassis switches. They got for 'top of rack' switches. Just upgrading a HP 5406ZL Chassis to a new 4 x D-Link stack of switches which to me does seem better option as offers more redundancy if a switch fails, rather than a whole chassis.

Always used visio for this kind of thing - you can get official stencils for components to make it all look good. Use that for network topologies, but then as above, I use 'The Dude' for live monitoring of network links switches, core components etc.

Tested on new clean install multiple 2019 servers. If install 2016 on another server, works fine.

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to why 50/125 OM3 fiber patch leads are available in both ORANGE and AQUA colours. It seems in cabs, there is a mixture of both colours and on the cable jackets both say 50/125 OM3 so really don't know what the difference is?

We've just (yesterday) moved from locally hosted eclipse to reading cloud. They did it in about 2 hours , no issues at all. Apart from a slight increase in annual support costs and a one off migration cost, we'll be sticking with it for now (depending on reliability).

we used to have 3 AD groups, IT staff, students, and staff. AD user account was a member of relevant group to get filtering Only issue we had is that their squid didn't work with spaces in usernames so they had to re-write it to work for us lol

2015 is when local county switched off their netsweeper filtering for schools in East Midlands! It probably was outdated which is why they didn't renew it so hopefully things have improved. One of our schools in the trust have a lightspeed box and is roughly same annual license costs as what we use (Censornet cloud USS)

oh my Netsweeper - the days of having Netsweeper that with the LEA - absolute dia! always rebuilding servers, rebooting, changing squid settings. So glad when they removed it and we sourced our own product.

Been given 2 patches for this from Capita. Regularly I have to either run Database Diagnostics or if that doesn't cure it, one of the patches through DBupgrade.

I think the A series are just lower rated MTBF.

about the same as our's then. pc's are 7+ years old and was easiest way to bring lease of life. they've been in 2 years and had zero failures. expect to do the students pcs on a dead hdd swap. just expect the motherboards to start failing next as recently had 11 year old servers with capacitors finally pop.
