Without looking into it massivly ( I hate ACLS ) Cisco ACL's are not stateful so you have to be explicit in what can go each way. I would imagine you have a one way rule to allow traffic to the web server but the traffic going back is being blocked. Just a thought..... Rob

We did a back to back test on one of our LG LED TV's, An expensive BlueRay player and 1 x 1.99 cable and 1 x £60 cable. 6 of us watched the same sceen out of a film a few times over. I was the one in the know for the cable swap the others had no idea. At the end the consesnus was that there was very little to tell at all and the 5 decided that they prefered the £1.99 cable Perhaps spending £10 just for build may help especialy if beeing unplugged lots. But not convinced about expensive ones at all. Rob

Cool, Do you have the EDGE stacks on a UPS? Appart from 2 450x PSU's blowing in the first 5 months back in 2008 we have had no other issues , I think that was a faulty batch ( not good a t £1k each! ) . Rob

Well winds took out a fence post and two panels over night had to rescue one pannel before it damaged the neighbours car. Been out and re-infoced one panel and fixed a split fence out back. Seem to repair the same fence in different parts each year. Rob

By the sound of it you need simply to record the information for presentation, a production MIS will do this but be so massivly over the top that it would be worth less than a spreadsheet. The BIGGY these days for schools is predective data, I am unsure that the releveance to you would be that strong though at the moment. But being able to model expected progress will probably follow yuor primary goals soon. Rob

IMS/MIS is only as good as the data inputed and the ability to tailor the outputed data ( where a MIS should shine above a IMS ) you need to understand what data you need to store and report on. My suspiscion is that a well crafted set of either Excel Sheets or an Access database will do the job. What exactly do you need to input and get out? Rob

Buy an IDE SSD or an IDE to 2.5" to Msata converter and Msata drive.

Just buy a £3 sata card off ebay. Having spent many hours wiping HDD's I can tell you that there is a masssive performance difference between Identical physical units running PATA vs SATA drive electronics. Rob

Have you updated the firmware on the drive? if not start with that and download Dells tape utilities. You will find a number of service repair companies on google, it's about 9 years since I had a drive repaired. Interestingly both our HP 2024's ( same as your library ) ripped tape leaders of tapes withing 3 weeks of each other so they have fully refurbed HP drives in them. Our old Dell TL4000 robot failed 3 days before the end of it's warranty so that was replaced with a fully refurbed unit with two LTO-3's it's hardly ever used so they have probably doen 4 hrs work in 2.5 years! With 2GB of ram? Also given that it's got 75G drives ( I suspect that's actualy 72G ) they will be Paralel Scsi rather than SAS so the backplane won't take SATA. Chances are also that the CPU is not up to running a modern Hypervisor. Rob

How many miles are you doing? Rob

Take your time planning the SAN. You want to have it using multipath so that a failure of any of san-processor/switch/vm-host does not singularly cause the VM's to be unavailable. Rob

I did find the PSU Fans to be overly noisy in the ones I have worked with, even to the extent that one customer could not keep it on the desk as it resonanted too much. Rob
