  1. Doh! I feel really stupid now!! I think you can close this
  2. Wasn't sure where to put this so if any mods think of a more suitable place feel free to move. Our finance and accounts system is very outdated and I have been put on task to find a replacement. We currently use a program called FINAX but this has been out of production for years and the finance officer has been told the new program that the company that made it have produced is not backwards compatible. I can see three options at the moment but would like some feedback from other foundation schools as to their solutions: 1: We purchase a sage solution (most expensive option) and I struggle to get the current data imported. Actually this is the case for any other software. 2: We go with the existing company's "upgrade" product knowing they won't support the export/import process. 3: We go for a free option provided by the county however finance officer thinks that there will be problems at year ends. Don't know what the problems might be but i trust her judgement. Does anyone out there know of any other software/have any suggestions to make my choice a little easier
  3. It looks like you've done a debug upload instead of a regular one typing 'fog' at the command prompt should set it going. I've found it indispensable here. Worth the perseverance to get it going right.
  4. Some of the forum sections are missing for me including Edugeek Stuff (I had to get to this through the contact us page), Red Door and the jokes. any links from the rss come up as not found.
  5. A huge groan from me for that one.
  6. Not as far as I know. Only option is to remove the whole File menu All apps will run it just prevents them being browsed in explorer. You can also hide the c drive in the same way so it doesn't even appear in My Computer window
  7. I had this problem too and solved by installing .net 2. I don't know whether that was really what did it as I put .net on to solve something else, but they all installed correctly after that. Check if the machines with the problem have the dot net packages on and if not try it
  8. You can put in a user filter to filter users that are managed by one person. If I'm correct this means that you can select all of your users you want to include in your openfire database and set them to be managed a user named spark or chat. Then all other users will be ignored I believe the notation for this is something like (managedBy=CN='your user,CN=users,DC=domain,dc=com) which can be put into the user filter box on the config screen or put straight into the xml config file
  9. AOA DVD Ripper. Not free but allows you to take a certain chapter, title, time and output to avi or wmv. Not bad for about £25 (at least with the exchange rate i got for $34.95)
  10. As far as i can work out it will look in the first ou specified and then all child objects. The first screen shot shows my ad set up with techs in child ou under all staff. Openfire picks up all groups. Second screen is roster list to show what it gets. For pulling the required info it uses the same notation as active directory itself. If you want to see what each field is called you can use adsiedit to view them. Third screenshot. The notation is case sensative as you can see from the openfire admin page
  11. I've discovered that maybe the problem is coming from our cache pilot again. We have a second internet connection here so that we can access some of the local authorities blocked content. If i go to the update site using the proxy to this connection it works fine. All the same policies are in place so I don't think it can be at my end.
  12. How is this done? Are you using WDS or can it be done in AD using the MAC addresses
  13. Can anyone explain what I may have done to get this error on all computers running XP SP3. When I go to the windows update website I get the following screen. All computers have IE7 so it's really bugging me. Been through my group policies but as it occurs on staff and student computers and they have very little in common GP wise, I'm looking for a little help. Can't find anything on google either.
  14. I suppose if all you want is for them not to see the actual contents of the script you could just @ECHO OFF at the beginning but this won't stop the console window which i guess is what you want. I'm afraid I'm out of ideas now
  15. All of my logon scripts are vbs and run silently anyway but i've found this that may be useful. i've bolded the one i think may apply to you. It seems that the policy is backwards if this article is correct. Four policies for script execution Finally, take a look at a few group and local policy settings that control script execution. The User Configuration | Administrative Templates | System | Logon | Logoff branch includes four policies that let you control script execution: * Run Logon Scripts Synchronously. Enable this policy if you want to require that all scripts must finish processing before XP displays the user interface. If the policy is disabled, XP can display the user interface while scripts continue to execute. * Run Legacy Logon Scripts Hidden. Enable this policy if you want the user to be able to see the account-based logon script execute. The script appears in a console window. The console is hidden if the policy is disabled. * Run Logon Scripts Visible. Enable this policy to display the policy-defined logon scripts in a console window, allowing the user to view them as they execute. * Run Logoff Scripts Visible. Enable this policy to display the policy-defined logoff scripts in a console window.
  16. AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.26Ghz 2 gig ram and Vista business built by previous technician 14" Widescreen monitor only though. Hopefully will be upgraded this year if I can persuade them that I need something more powerful
  17. We have a few sony projectors, not of that exact model but it just seems to be an aesthetic update to the ones we have. They are VPL EX3 and EX4's and are pretty reliable. We did have one that broke just out of warranty with a permanent lamp error, but the others have been fine. Hope this helps your decision a little
  18. That's odd as the machines in question only covered half the room and were not shutdown when i came in this morning but i have time this afternoon to stay behind until the time set to watch a couple. Have a study support class in that room maybe their idea of a joke to turn them back on while leaving the Thanks
  19. Get this error from shutdownertron no other info. All machines that it happens on are Service Pack 3 with updates waiting to install. Could this be related?
  20. I'm not sure if it changes with each version but it used to be a right click when in the slideshow then pointer options.
  21. That will be my problem then. I was trying to install it from a log on script but as the student can't install anything I was getting an error. Running it from an msi worked a treat thanks
  22. How have you been deploying this accross your school. Using USBDLM to ensure that the usb drives always get letter Z: and have a settings file generated from your app. Thought I would be able to run it at logon but I'm getting a security error of some sort when the students logon. It's fine for my admin logon however.
