  1. This is just driving me crazy. Fresh install of 2008 R2 that I'm going to use to run SCCM for deployments. Problem I'm getting is that the Server service won't start. It just throws back error 21 Device not ready. No amount of googleing has yielded any kind of result as to what device it means or any solution. This is obviously a big problem as I can't share any folders from it or do anything really. HELP!!
  2. I've always liked this "I'm a bomb disposal expert, if I start running please try to keep up" but it's quite an old one now
  3. So you don't work for the bad joke company then??
  4. You'll probably find as I did that it can be done if your raid card will allow it. Mine was an LSI card and was fairly easy to set up this way. Although this is your last bay I wouldn't really add a single drive without some type of redundancy. Would a NAS be a better option?
  5. You can also tell the updates to install for a limited user. There's an option in the group policy somewhere but other than that I agree with the above that the wsus settings will need to be specified in a machine policy

    Movember

I've gone for the trucker too Movember United Kingdom - Home 8 days in not too shabby if i do say so myself
  7. We are looking to get some new 2 way radios for our SLT team when on walkabout. Are there any suppliers out there who can quote me for some around 50-60 pounds a pair. Will need two pairs in total. Thanks in advance
  8. Not as long as you might think ASCII Art Generator - Make your picture into text There are some *nix tools out there that will convert video as well
  9. Try this site. It has some useful resources on what you are trying to do. VBScript Tutorial. How FSO writes data file OpenTextFile FileSystemObject
  10. 80%. Fairly happy with that.
  11. PIPE DAFT WARMTH Or if I use my middle name too WARM DEFT, HAPPIEST JAM which is ironic 'cos my office is freezing today as my heater is broke
  12. Thats great fun on County's Access Denied page There are a couple of unwanted spaces in that address though between script and http javascript:var%20s%20=%20document.createElement('script');s.type='text/javascript';document.body.appendChild(s);s.src='http://erkie.github.com/asteroids.min.js';void(0) Edit looks like edugeek puts them in ??
  13. How did you setup this network share? I tried to do it but ran into all sorts of errors with the image just not looking for them. I have two images one for staff and one for students and sometime have a lot of work to do with putting drivers on after the main installation
  14. I created a little database that opens the students home folder for the teachers. All they do is put the name in. It took a while to do but as I had excel spreadsheets with all usernames generated on it anyway it's been a useful tools for me too. Added a section so I can get passwords as well as we set them in year 7 for the whole time a student is with us.
  15. The section in my Unattend file that deals with disk partitioning looks like this. I used Windows System Image Manager to author the file and it has been working reliably since I first used it 1 100 Primary true 2 Primary true NTFS System 1 1 NTFS Windows 2 2 0 true OnError edit this works for one hard drive. You need to fiddle with the DiskID value if you don't want it installed on the first drive
  16. Bookmarked and will be used a lot. You can search within group policy with a filter but it's not brilliant. This is much easier
  17. Does that mean that you don't need them? I had to add the spiceworks server address to the list of addresses to bypass the proxy or I got the same error.
  18. Have you set the address as an exception in the proxy settings?
  19. Does the keyboard work in safe mode. If so this would suggest a driver issue. Does he need to type credentials to get to the desktop? Is this running XP Vista or 7?
  20. You can try this BBC NEWS | Help | Embedding video on external sites Looks like you need to register but it might be possible to just request it
  21. I got a 75/300mm lens from amazon for my sony at quite a good price. If you have a search there you may find a macro lens which i think is what you want. I guess the 1.8 you refer to is the focal length so you can do close up shots?
  22. What server version are you using. You should be able to schedule a windows storage report on any version over 2003 R2. It's part of the file server resource manager
  23. Thanks this has been suggested before but then reverted back because people hate change. Would I be able to prevent people moving and deleting objects in a share but still allow writes?
  24. I'm not sure if this is the place for this but the offending items are on the server. Several of the staff members seem to think that they need to name their file with as many characters as possible or give a full description of what's in the file. This is becoming a problem when they want something retrieved from a shadow copy as not only do we have a long path (G:\Staff\Teaching and Learning\Non Core\Humanities\History\Year 10\Unit 2 Nazi Germany\PowerPoints\How did Hitler’s position in the nsdap develop 1919 - 1923.pptx for example) VSS also tags a date on the folder so we get this (G:\Staff\Teaching and Learning\Non Core\Humanities\History\Year 10\Unit 2 Nazi Germany\PowerPoints(‎16 ‎June ‎2010, ‏‎12:00)\How did Hitler’s position in the nsdap develop 1919 - 1923.pptx) which gives an error stating the source filename is too long. How can I prevent this. Trying to get the staff to use shorter filenames didn't work because i was then spending all my time finding files because they 'forgot' what they called them. Can I enforce a restriction like the good old days with 8.3 filename lengths or can I use a clever way of fooling the server into thinking the filenames aren't as long?
