Which switch model and what firmware is on it? Have you tried a reboot of the switch out of interest?

Strange FTTP behaviour on a new install
ZeroHour replied to timbo343's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Is it DHCP assigned for IP or PPPoE? I think TTB is DHCP but I cant remember. Either way try connecting the laptop directly into the ONT and see if that gets better. I am trying to think why wired would be that much slower, wireless though is probably much about the max speed wifi gets. Double check the routers have options to enable hardware acceleration as well as these can be off and a lot of routers can have issues with speeds over 300mb. -
So I basically just got FTTP installed by the R100 program in Scotland but I too was facing getting FTTPoD before the gov decided to do it. The 330/50 speed you see for FTTPoD is not the expected max speed, basically its the default number shown for FTTPoD in the Openreach database. The hugely hugely vast amount of people who actually get FTTP put into their street will get 1000/220 max. The ones on 330/50 are households who generally got it years ago and have an ECI based system. The BT Wholesale page shows whats where but the page to check is actually: https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/ultrafast-full-fibre-broadband which will give you a better idea of what may/may not come. Once the work is done you can then check the wholesale page. If you order FTTPoD you have to use a company who supports that type of order, aka someone like Cerberus. They will do an estimate based on a desktop (aka computer says this) survey and the price given can be off the mark by a large amount both lower, and more likely, higher. Next you order a real survey which gives you a hard quote, its £290+VAT and after they give you a quote you have 30 days to decide, that £290 is taken off the total. They will reduce you cost a bit depending on how many houses will be served/passed by your CBT (the bit in the street) but dont expect it to be many as its not a simple case of the number of houses on the street or even how the fibre runs. The distance is based on running fibre not from a FTTC but from an Openreach Fibre node and these are not on the street so there is no way to know where the nearest is I believe. Its basically the backhaul fibre to the exchange. So if you go ahead you have to pay Cerberus for the install and you have to sign up to them and they usually cost more than other ISP's as well. I believe it used to be a 12 month contract but now its 24 although cheaper per month. You can get other houses to come in the cost but simply put if they dont help pay and you order, ANY other house served by that CBT can just order from any ISP they want and get the benefit of your order. Hope this explains a little.

Great, that means its DHCP based and not the PPPoE throughput issue. Based on: https://www.draytek.co.uk/products/business/vigor-2865-series it appears it can only get high speeds if hardware acceleration is on? its possible a feature thats turned on is stopping it. Take a look at the following and see if you need to toggle on to boost things a bit: https://www.draytek.com/support/knowledge-base/5308
-
Did you have to add any login details to the Draytek for PPPoE auth or is it DHCP based (aka no username/pass in the draytek)? I have not used Youfibre so I dont know.

I just got FTTP myself, who is your ISP and are you on an Openreach based connection? It smells of the old PPPoE performance issue.

Recommend a "dumb" TV for staffroom
ZeroHour replied to DrBeaker's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
To be honest I am not sure if you will find something without spending well over the odds to not have smart features. They are pretty useless when not connected up to wifi at least. Will the PC connected be used as a PC or more to display things? Text can be problematic to read on TV's if using it as an actual PC. -
Unifi Guest Portal Running out Of IP Addresses
ZeroHour replied to ChrisH's topic in Wireless Networks
This: https://unificontrol.readthedocs.io/en/latest/introduction.html May be worth a play grabbing guests then blocking them and finally forgetting them after x time. -

Possibly an old version of Java? If I recall Java had expiry dates in the old days to try and force people to upgrade because of all the holes.- 6 replies

Just to say I tested this with FF on the new platform and it works like email.

I believe only those ISPs that partner with Trooli will be able to use the cable as it stands right now as I dont think its regulated.

Its weird, your account has the correct theme linked. I will take a look further. Does it work properly on a different browser? -
Just to say I linked a graph of the washing machine plug I have at: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/227399-cost-living-crisis-2022-what-have-you-cut-back.html#post1949999 I bought plugs that use tasmota (so go into Home assistant easily with MQTT) and are made in the UK. NOTE: Watch out for smart plugs as MANY cant handle a high amp throughput and although they may be rated as a high ampage they very often can only handle this as a short peak as opposed to consistent high ampage draw. The ratings did change in 2020 I believe to get rid of A++++++ and I think they tightened the rules washing machines etc have to follow to advertise their 100 wash kWh usage. I have used Rasp Pi 4 to handle a lot of monitoring as the draw is very very low unlike my desktop that draws 150w-200w when in low power modes and half the cores cut etc.

Cost of living crisis 2022 - what have you cut back on?
ZeroHour replied to Ditto's topic in General Chat
Heating the water, by a country mile, to 40C in the test I did, went to 2460W odd where as spinning peaked at around 405W. I calculated the cost for the whole wash cycle at approx 31p. -
I am currently experimenting with Andrews & Arnold ISP VOIP right now, it does have a monthly but its very low starting at £1.20. So far it seems fine and the number we got (rather than port) is nice as well.

Weirdly I cant recreate it on my end in FF so far.

On Edgemax (I personally have an edgerouter lite but single wan) it appears this: https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/204952274-EdgeRouter-Policy-Based-Routing shows how to do it. It may be possible with a custom json file. This: https://community.ui.com/questions/Tool-Map-Multiple-WAN-IP-to-Local-IPs-on-USG/b7daf87d-84aa-4557-8ad8-2ff516252f91 has a link to a tool to try and help but I am not sure about the USG. This: https://old.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/ovxw5f/guidance_for_dual_wan_setup/ seems to be trying to do something similar. I had been tempted for a USG but I kept reading how a lot of the stuff is hidden behind managing custom json files to get it to work.

[bug/error] wrong hyperlinks in emails
ZeroHour replied to browolf's topic in EduGeek.net Site Problems
Are all your emails doing this? It happens very sporadically and when it occurs I cant find the reason why as its usually working when I pull logs. -
Hmm its a tougher one given the whole issue of log4j that caused some unifi servers to be turned into miners. Will it have a domain pointed at it? I would maybe sit cloudflare infront of it possibly but I am not sure what rules would need to be allowed to ensure the management side works well. I will have a think of what I would do.

[bug/error] EduGeek Hyperlink problems
ZeroHour replied to Chuckster's topic in EduGeek.net Site Problems
I am not sure why your browser isnt sending the tags properly but I have put in a temporary workaround to make life hopefully a bit easier, now when you get the error there will be a link you can click to continue on to the site, let me know if that works in the interim. Cheers -
