I read something once that said that the USB memory stick is property of the student and as such looking inside it, or using software to look inside it is breaking the DPA. Not sure where i read it, but i will try to find it! We don't bother here, if they want to waste lesson time playing games so be it! They can't install anything so we don't particularly care. It is up to the teachers themselves to stop them playing games on the memory sticks during lesson times and no one has access to a computer during lunchtimes or after school at the minute!

Anyone suffered from health problems that may be linked to laser printers? What do you think, are they damaging?

If you are looking for a very simple helpdesk have a look at "somehelp" it is a very simple, free database that runs in access. It only records call information, but it is very useful if you are looking for the next stage of a ticket system, instead of a book. btw Dan sounds like a pri*k. If i were you i would tell him that you cannot possibly do your job if he doesn't realise what it entails!

I'm a newbie to SIMS and FMS and haven't got any training for it. I have managed to work out how to install SIMS.net to a computer. But i can't get the FMS part of it to work. I don't need to change anything on the server, this is just a brand new workstation that needs it installled. Can anyone tell me how to install this onto the computer?

I was only wondering as i have brought myself a new dell vostro, with a 6-cell battery that lasts around 4-5 hours with no special settings. Wireless on, screen low, nothing else. I got a 2.0 GHz AMD Turion x2 and 2GB RAM. It appears that this is a very good time then!!

button_ripple replied to My220x's topic in How do you do....it?

Same boat as you! I get 8K a year, i work a 35 hour week (but i never finish at them times) looking after 4 servers, 30 teacher laptops, 45 pupil laptops, 1 suite and all the projectors, whiteboards and printers. I really should be paid a little bit more!! I work longer than the TA's and do more than them, but they still get more than what i do!

How many network drives do you have? What is kept on them and who are they for? We have 3 drives for staff: Home, Staff Shared and Pupils 2 for pupils: Home and year shared 4 for Admin: home, everyone else, shared, sims 6 for IT: Shared, staff shared, pupils home folders, staff home folders, 1 for our ink stock taking thing Is this normal to everyone else?

Home drive size limits - what are yours?
button_ripple replied to tarquel's topic in Wireless Networks
No limits, but staff know that when the space is used up, we will not add more! (mind you we do have a 1tb hdd for the buggers!!) Pupils don't really save much as they mostly use the computers for research on the internet and the staff don't teach them to print what they need. have seen a 17GB home directory before - iTunes. Advised the staff member that we would be moving all of the music to the shared area, and it disappeared very quickly!! ;-) -
We currently pay £2,000 a year for our school internet access. We are with E2BN and have a dedicated 10Mbps line. - this has already been paid for so it's not coming from the rental of this. Filtering is included in the free support. All the software that they use is freeware. Anyone got any ideas where this cost is coming from? What are you paying for broadband at school, and who are you with?

Equiinet are still running, they have just downsized a little bit. Does anyone else's Cachepilot seem to have a problem once more than 5 people are connected to it? e.g. studdering videos, slow loaded pages? I thought the cachepilots were supposed to be able to handle lots of traffic and demands. This didn't use to happen - only after xmas. We haven't changed anything since November!
-
we have this exact problem. Go to different model of projector (pref. newer) and try the laptop on that. Also, check all connections - it might not be picking up on the projector

Try interchat - available from conware.org using it already - it is very good!
