or there is a use case here PowerShell renaming multiple files, specific part of file name - Super User
-
bit messy but gci *.txt | rename-item -newname { [string]($_.name).substring($_.name.length -14) } would remove the last 14 chars from the name (including 4 for the .bmp, leaving the 523D942422 etc.

The AutoUpdate has always frustrated me, must of missed this cfg file. . Can I ask, do you guys just use the AutoUpdateDisable=1, or do you set other parameters also? Also, do you just push it out via GPP, or a script on deploy etc?

I think I did it something like this Goto the Home folder right click open command promt here and enter DIR /B > C:\Data\Stafflist.txt This will get you a list of the users, open this in excel In cell b1 type =CONCATENATE("robocopy ", CHAR(34), A1, CHAR(34)," ",CHAR(34), A1,"\Documents",CHAR(34), " /MOVE /E /ZB /COPYALL /XD Documents Recycler Sysvol appdata /XF desktop.ini /R:5 ") Replicate this down the column, hightlight the column and copy Run CMD as admin (needed for /COPYALL) change directory to the home folder then simply hit paste Obviously test it first, make sure you have a good backup to hand. Then go to the staff OU in AD, select all, and change the Home Folder to \\server\staff$\%username%\Documents, hit ok, and cross your fingers

We use Foldr (no e) for our iPads. it is effectively a WebDAV portal that integrates with AD, its not cheap, but it is set and forget. Gives staff and pupils appropriate access to all the files they normally have access to. Re Photos; Browse to a folder on the network, select upload here, choose the Camera Role then watch em fly... (Bang, Zoom, Straight to the moon.... sorry) Runs as a virtual appliance on existing HW, very small foot print. Grab yourself an SSL Cert and you have a good BYOD file access over WebDAV (or through a web browser) for Win8RT or Chromebooks etc.

+1 Seems overboard when a little work sets you up the way it was designed. Extra step on user creation, plus robocopy script for existing users, job done.

If you move the My Documents folder to %username%\Documents, you don't need to keep deleting it, or prevent it from being made, or read... @localzuk you beat me to it whilst I was typing
-
I had most of these same issues first the "Documents" then the slowdown when attempting the block the creation / read etc through FSRM. My solution was to create a folder under \%username% called Documents and map H:\ to that so the kids don't see any difference and the staff get \\DFS\Pupils\YearGroup\JoeBloggs\Documents The gotya is that when creating users you have to first create \\DFS\Pupils\YearGroup\%username% which creates the user folder, then go back and set them all to \\DFS\Pupils\YearGroup\%username%\Documents which cretes the documents subfolder. bit of a faff as existing users need their documents moving over but a careful robocopy did that in minutes.

I tried using Hub's, and didn't get very far, may of been the Hubs though. You can get charge and sync trollys/docks etc, but otherwise you may be stuck with doing a three at a time as I was. (I think there is a limit of 30 or so, from memory, but could be wrong, a quick Google should tell you) a quick gotcha I had after the base image/prepare I had to wake the device up and move it onto the network screen for the WLAN profile to take properly, otherwise the Meraki profile then failed when I supervised them.
-
You can do this in within a profile in Meraki, setup the email settings within a profile, and then assign a user to the device (user being the username for the email account)
-
In a nutshell Start Up an iPad, Apple Config: Prepare, Supervise, iPad: update etc, set icons up as you like, set apps to auto update and install, safari homepage etc. Apple Config: Backup as base image, Meraki: Create a network, set up profiles etc Apple Config: Create a meraki profile & Import meraki Certificate, create a WLAN profile Rest of the iPads; Apple Config: Prepare (w/WLAN Profile), supervise (always update iOS, WLAN Profile, Meraki Profile) end user: setup apple id, add to ipad VPP: join program Meraki: add vpp, invite users, send out apps

Java Runtime Environment 7 Update 65 (and 8 Update 11) released
smithson83 replied to Arthur's topic in Downloads
If say I have rolled out Java7u51 via gpo, would you recommend removing it and adding 7u65 as a fresh install, or adding it as an update to 51? the last time I tried removing and installing flash 7u25 just hung and then didn't do anything, unfortunately I also update flash, shockwave, reader etc at the same time. chaos ensued.... -
Helps???? It was the little thing I was missing, been doing my nut in.... You my friend are a god send

Post #3 was why I asked, it says both DC1 and DC2 should have IP of DC1 as primary and IP of DC2 as secondary, should it not be reversed on DC2
-
I ment another local dc eg DC2 ie Use yourself, unless something is wrong, then use the other dc on the network So DC1 would be; Primary: IP of DC1 Alternate: IP of DC2 and DC2 would be; Primary: IP of DC2 Alternate: IP of DC1
-
Sorry to hijack, but shouldn't both DCs DNS be set as Primary: Own IP Address Alternate: A.N.Other DNS Server IP Address rather than both pointing to DC1 as primary and DC2 as Alternate?
-
@AngryITGuy where do you get them from, would be very interested at that price

KS2/ Primary : Shared or individual users?
smithson83 replied to MkII's topic in How do you do....it?
We currently have individual logins for Y3 and above, but we don't have passwords. Soon, very soon... they are all going to get passwords (maybe over summer), then we are moving down the school to Y2 having individual accounts and passwords (maybe the same password to make things easy for the little "Darlings" for the first year) -
