  1. Yes, frog is a single server, but with 2000 students, with user areas split over 3 servers too many user names are incorrect for us to be able to keep on top of, coupled with everything else that has to be kept on top of! Surely a service like a VLE should fit in with what we have and works, not force us to alter our systems so we can use a VLE?
  2. It is "Edit student details" but if you search on multi (as in multi server) it is the first returned result. Thanks to those who are voting - it's had 3 since I posted.
  3. If anyone else can see a use for managing year groups separately, please log onto the frog community and vote for the suggestion I put on there a little while ago. Apparently, so Frog tell me, every other school have all their users on one server, and so there is no need to manage year groups separately!
  4. We have about 1000 workstations and 400 laptops, so we will be updating the workstations gradually and rebuilding laptops ( or as many as possible) over this half term. I was told that as long as the servers were updated the workstations can be done gradually.
  5. The custom reg key feature in RMMC usually works well - I assume you're adding a HKEY Local machine key to the default machine policy? You can use console to move some users to the other server, but if you have one server on 100Mb I'd leave what you can on the 1Gb one! I put updates 94 and 95 on yesterday, and have already seen an improvement with logon and logoff times. I was told that they would help with mapping problems. With regards to backups, are you able to take a backup offsite? Otherwise, you can have the best setup in the world, but if the school burnt down, you'd have nothing to restore.
  6. It should be possible with a registry fragment - in fact I think I've done so at work - I'll update tomorrow when I can have a look at my setup.
  7. Does that room have a unique package that no other room has? If so, is an older version of quicktime inadvertantly included in that package?
  8. I when to Uni to read Chemistry, dropped out after 2 years, married and had 2 kids. I started work as a Classroom Assistant, first on a voluntary basis and then paid, when my youngest started school. I did that for a few years and got our first home PC. My stubborn nature meant that when it broke I was determined to fix it myself - I wasn't paying to get it fixed if I could do it, and I was hooked. I then got a job as an ICT classroom assistant and took on more and more techie jobs until I became System Manager.
  9. You can use Workgroup Manager to enforce Directory Status heading and Name and Password text fields in the login box.
  10. Neither CC3 or CC4 link directly to SIMS. We're on CC4, and, as above, we import a csv file exported from SIMS into the CC4 management console. I have, on a vanilla system, used various bat files to import users using Windows tools such as net user and cacls
  11. Currently testing my apps on Win 7. We plan to move the newer machines over to Win 7 in the summer and keep the older ones on XP. We'll couple that with a move to Office 2k7 or 2010, not sure which yet.
  12. Teaching secondary school students discrete ICT is a little like setting aside a couple of hours a week to teach them how to use a pen. My husband is Network Manager at a nearby school and teaches ICT to all Y7 students. All he teaches in the first term is how to save a file, with a sensible file name, how to ensure the content of a document is correct before you apply fonts etc. and how to use a help file or google to find out how to use a unfamiliar piece of software. ground work which stands them in good stead for the rest of their school career.
  13. Have you contacted Sibelius? They are usually on the ball with RM CC3 or 4 and have, in the past, sent me the package RM ready. As mentioned, all I had to do was import it and send out a reg frag with the serial number.
  14. I can no longer find the KB article referenced above on the Promethean site - has it been withdrawn?
  15. We're CC4, but I created the CC3 package as instructed on Communities and then imported it. It works fine. A thing to check - if you run it first as an administrator, does it then run as a student? We had that until we added the writeaccess.ini. You need the following permissions set: "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Adobe" "Everyone" Modify "C:\ProgramData\Adobe" "Everyone" Modify "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD" "Everyone" Modify
  16. What do you mean unhealthy - beans, tomatoes and mushrooms - that 3 of your 5 a day on one plate!

"%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Adobe" "Everyone" Modify "C:\ProgramData\Adobe" "Everyone" Modify "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD" "Everyone" Modify Seems to work here.
  19. See this Mod The Sims - Game Help:Change Location of Downloads Folder - it says SIMS will recognise the move.
  20. Which OS - I know in XP you can right click the Documents folder and move it to another location with no problems.
  21. I had the issue with a laptop where the sound card had a karaoke mode which had been turned on. Turned this off and voices returned.
  22. Split site school, 1400 clients (400 of which are laptops), 17 servers. 2000 students 400 staff. IT Manager (non technical) and 4 technicians based across the two sites.
  23. I'm here! The only woman in a team of five.
  24. I believe you can do this with Adobe Acrobat Pro - create a form and put a submit button on it to return to an e-mail address. We do it for in school student surveys. create fillable PDF forms, interactive PDF forms | Acrobat X Pro - features
