I've used Dell's compellent stuff (which "doesn't use" RAID5/6/50 etc) - but does it's own thing; which seems to be to implement a virtual raid 1+raid 5/6 across the whole set of drives. It looks like the equallogic brand may do similar: (a) 24 and 48 drive arrays implement multiple RAID 6 sets within a single chassis. So, looking at Page 31 - they imply they might do as follows: 1 Hot Spare Raid 6 - 12 Disks (10 data + 2 parity) Raid 6 - 11 Disks (9 data + 2 Parity) So that would mean the capacity of the array is only going to be the capacity of 19 disks in the raid. If we then consider some drives show capacity as 1000 bytes, as opposed to 1024, i start to get around 17.7TB of usable space - not quite your 16.5tb, but hopefully something here might allow you to work out what it's actually doing

It's quite interesting how many schools are happy to pay for websites, but then don't involve their IT teams in it. Students/Parents/Staff don't look at school websites - as they are often using the schools VLE - whether it's google classroom / teams/ moodle / fronter / itslearning etc etc. Spending lots of money on a website does seem like a waste of funds - especially given the templates that are available from microsoft/wordpress etc for free

There might be something on one of the menu's, already, but i'm guessing you guys have a different internal feed

Our agreement with every finishes this year, and we are cancelling; but then we never really bought into it as an idea - site team were just using it to track issues and not for the other things it could do. At that point, it's a very expensive issue tracker. In terms of IT and tracking, would definitely echo that there are probably better ways to manager IT issues and track IT assets etc

Or - add a ExcludeFromSDS User defined field to all people - contacts/students/staff If ExcludeFromSDS is set, don't include in the csv file at all - that would save creating dummy emails addresses (which presumably creates emails to those dummy addresses), and would allow a student or member of staff (e.g. cleaner, or volunteer/governor if recorded on sims) not to be included in the sync.

One point to note - when i enabled it, i almost filled up a SAN and had to pause the job for 24 hours - moving data around to save space increased the data on the san temporarily (until it cleaned up etc) - I saved 1TB, but added 2TB onto the san temporarily.

It will vary - we often end up doing it in last week of term in July. Ultimately there are 3 things I'd normally send from nt6 to sims: a) timetable cycle b) timetable bands c) all the lessons So lesson times, then block structure - then at the end all the Lessons. First time courses are sent you want to have set levels e.g. gcse/a2 as it will only pick this up on first send. I do both - assignment + timetable - however i'm at a school that is selective, and only does A-Levels so our students are largely static through a year; and everyone is just simply doing 3-4 a-levels - equally at gcse, everyone does 9/10 so there's hardly any messing around with alternatives. I normally leave it quite late until the timetable is done - as it saves messing around when something changes e.g. if a class suddenly gets split between two teachers - such that it becomes a cluster. On the odd occassions in the long distant past, i've seen sims then leave something blank etc. But then, our setup is easy - 10/12 are done in options and important. 11/13 are just promotions from the year before. 7/8/9 are in form groups and only maths/english put them in sets. So the assignment can be done easily in an afternoon.

Jim joined the o365 thread talking about his move to M365 A3 on CSP, so I'll be interested to find out if the supplier confirms to foofighterjim what Microsoft said verbally and didn't put into an email that the KMS key isn't available I'll copy/paste what Microsoft clarified about OVS-ES vs CSP: Under OVS-ES you will have the ability to reach the M365 A3 value by adding the certain products individually. But once again you will not have Minecraft Education Edition under this type of Agreement. Windows 10 Home licenses are qualifying underlying OS for Windows 10 Education upgrade. And here, below is the Lab and Library use right you gain with OVS-ES; In CSP Agreement: Windows 10 Home is not a qualifying OS for Windows 10 Enterprise A3/A5 upgrade USLs. Minimum requirement is Windows 10 Pro. You do not have installation rights for Office Professional Plus instead of Office 365 ProPlus. If you license the EQU count with Microsoft 365 A3/A5, the faculty and staff (Except Students) will gain the Special User Rights listed below; There is no SA coverage in CSP, hence MDOP will not be available. Azure DevTools for Teaching would require a separate subscription since this is not a Volume Licensing Agreement. Steve, Microsoft have a technical issue (I think) that they can't offer an upgrade from education edition from home [windows 10] - So that means that school's must have Windows 10 Pro licensed on their PC's. Some schools might have done that - but since that, but since windows XP - "Home Edition" has been a qualifying product to use with a volume licensing agreement to "upgrade". So if a school has bought a device with a home license on it (to save money) then used their OVS agreement to upgrade it to Pro in school - that would not qualify for the CSP licensing [presumably the fix for that would be to buy a windows 10 pro license under some agreement first]. I don't think that the schools will necessarily understand/have that made clear - I suspect there will be some schools that don't realise as they've left their old OVS-ES KMS key in Active Directory. That issue makes it more challenging for schools to ensure they've done the correct thing. There are perks available under OVS-ES e.g. Dev tools / MDOP etc that some schools might use - but equally under CSP and Microsoft A3 there's minecraft - but you lose the first perks. One other thing: the 40:1 ratio - it's not always 40:1 - depending on what you license it can be 15:1 Desktop bundle "Microsft 365 apps + windows 10 education upgrade" - is 40:1 Office A3 / Office A5 is 40:1 however if you license "Office Professional Plus" or "Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise" seperately, the ratio is 15:1

I believe you'll find that the device based licensing is only available through EES i.e. NOT ovs-es or CSP When I managed to get to talk to Microsoft's education licensing team, who normally deal with partners about this, my verbal question of, "Presumably once you cease the OVS agreement, the right to leave the activation key in KMS ceases" - was met with a 'yes' I believe. My take: Hyper-V - free, so need OS license for guests. So, 5 , 16-core pack data centre licenses would allow for unlimited VM's - and cost £1500 a year if on an OVS-ES agreement, give or take. Assuming these are older lowish spec boxes. Standard, there's 14 vm's. A standard license allows up to 2 OS's Host 1 + 2 VM's -> 16 Host 2 + 2 VM's -> 16 Host 3 + 2 VM's -> 16 Host 4 + 2 VM's -> 16 Host 5 + 2 VM's -> 16 Additional 2 VM's -> 16 Additional 2 VM's -> 16 ==> 112 core's So cheapest way to get that would be to purchase 7, 16-core packs - which would be about £300-350 / year

The product terms for OVS-ES/EES give 'lab and library use' rights: 2.4.2 Lab and Library Use in OVS-ES Institutions with Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise User SLs assigned to all faculty and staff, Education Qualified Users, or Knowledge Workers in OVS-ES may install Office Professional Plus software on any open access lab or library within the Institution’s Organization. Use of the software is otherwise subject to the License terms for Office Professional Plus. The CSP agreement terms don't give those rights. There's actually quite a few differences between OVS/EES and CSP - to the extent that i'd probably expect that it would be very difficult for a number of UK schools to be in a position to move to a CSP agreement. " ... depending on what agreement it's licensed under and on where it is being used. there's currently OVS-ES (schools) / EES ( that large trusts might be able to access) and CSP as the agreements that schools might look at. CSP would seem to be the more problematic agreement as the terms are different.

How have you licensed A3 / doing licensing I've just spent an hour on the phone with Microsoft and their licensing team; On the basis of that chat, I'd be inclined to think the supplier is giving valid information here. I've pretty much reached the conclusion I can't see how a lot of schools could take out a CSP only agreement.

I coded on an issue tracker for years that we use - site staff bought every 4 years ago and we'll likely be cancelling it at end of year. In our case, I couldn't see us making good use of Every (for its cost) and in a way, that's come back 4 years down the line as the site guy who's now in charge wants to move back to our system. Ultimately, it depends on what you use it for. Every can let you record assets , maintenance programs etc - and has a function where you can find suppliers etc. So for a cost, can tick a lot of different boxes. At the same time, an asset list or issue tracker on it's basic level is a simple task - an excel spreadsheet could record assets for instance. In terms of IT, I'd be looking to integrate other systems into the "issue tracker". For example, is there a monitoring system that could update zendesk automatically if a system goes offline. Or push out a SMS /Teams notification etc. In that regards, I'd expect Every would be quite clunky, and the integration with apps to zendesk would be a lot more flexible/likely to exist. I'm not sure if Zendesk is free for education? But i'd certainly say it's beneficial to keep with an IT system - and there's enough options available; either free and open source or for a cost. I'd like to get to a point where I have a dashboard that tells me what problems it knows about alongside what teachers report (via whatever means) - link nagios/icinga/zabbix/prtg/whatever to zendesk/pivotal/redmine/jira/github/bugzilla/whatever. I think there's more scope for doing that around those technologies then a more closed system. Equally, how far does the trust go on the caretaker side - do they use it for H&S training e.g. annual ladder training or just recording issues - it might be that money could be saved. In our case, we are looking to save the money as we haven't used it enough to add value. Staff will stop someone in the corridor, ring on the phone, email or submit an issue electronically - some of our site staff aren't that great with English/phones, so it ends up that 1-2 guys print the information from every, give it to the others - at which point, all we are tracking is what jobs are still open - a stack of post-it notes on a table can do that
