Yes that would work fine. I'd probably use Raid5 though and leverage the extra 25% capaity

I think the main issue is that a 14" screen is not physically large enough to display 1080p or more compfrtably without it just all resorting to tiny text and you having to use the zoom feature in windows. What's the point of having 1440p and paying extra just to then turn the zoom up to 150% and negate it all? Frankly I don't even like using 1080p on anything smaller than a 24" 1440p I go 32"

Well my attempts at being a tightwad (but clever tightwad i.e still staying warm) have proven fruitful. So this is - only running central heating in my bedroom and my bathroom and not the rest of the house. It's nice and warm in the morning for me shower and warm in the evening. The rest of the house has polar bears in it but I throw some ice down for them and they leave me alone. I've gone from: 6 weeks ago £30 in gas 5 weeks ago £20 in gas 4 Weeks ago £12 in gas 3 weeks ago £14 in gas 2 Week ago £12 in gas 1 Week ago £14 in gas So now - £12 in gas when the temps are not too bad in the nights, £14 in gas when it's getting down to 0 in the nigts like this week. Funny that someone on a "reasonable wage" feels that they need to do this.

I'd run it as a VM with no network connectivity and if anyone needs data they ask you to spin it back up again.

What kind of Z series? E.g Z400/600/800 are archaic and i wouldnt expect widows 11 support?

I'd love to used to run full roaming profiles in the old days and the network just worked perfectly for years on end. Sadly redirecting appdata turns into a mess as there are such badly written programs that they try and store data any old where.

The entire renewals process is done in such as way as to be as devious as possible into forcing you to accept the new contract on worst terms and conditions. We have been instructed by the LA not to even log into the portal without a member of the LA SIMS team - and to then complete the renewal of existing contract under their instruction. This is like PPI all over again. I was already disgusted at capita and ESS general behaviour but ESS have really taken it to a new level of pure criminality.

Unless you already have a stack of solar panels on the roof and cheap night time electricity rates, an air to water heatpump is a terrible idea - between 3 to 10 times as expensive to install (depending on if you need your tank radiators and all pipes upgraded too..) and 1 to 2x as expensive to run if your paying the full 34p/kwh whilst it's running all day long and all night long. And if leccy goes up even more.......your even more screwed! However if you pay 12p/kwh overnight and have solar bunging power into your house during the day an elextric powered heat pump is a good idea especially if you have a newer build with decent pipes and radiators already there.

Thats not good - internal pings on a modern network internally even across multiple switches should be 0ms if your getting anything more than 2 then there's something not right IMHO.

Ok well by the sounds of it - it will be a big project for you to move away from the LA and when you get companies in to do big projects the cost is also big.

I think there's few things you need to clarify before you can even think about moving away from the LEA. 1. Are the servers, switches, WAPS, and any other devices physically the propertly of the school or the LEA? E.g. mine are property of the school as it was purchased through school funds, but installed onto the LEA systems and remains semi-managed by the LEA this would have big time implications if we moved away i.e designing implimenting a new Domain structure and then having to migrade all devices. 2. Is the "system" i.e the domain / switch and wifi management etc inextricably linked to the LEA's system or not? E.g. our active directory is the LEAs as well as network/wifi controllers etc this would have big cost implications if we moved away 3. Is the LEA support actually not meeting standards or overpriced? You may find what you think you are paying is expensive but then when you go out to other companies you may find they are even more expensive! 4. Is there any LEA support or services you can opt out of in order to slim down costs whilst still remaining generally supported by the LEA (e.g. we opt out of hardware support contract which saves 15k+ a year and we repair all end user devices in house) but still we are on their system/network and remain friendly with them.

It's still risky though in these modern days of health and safey blame theres a claim. If you've got a quality mount bolted to a suitable structure you will be covered and it the proverbial hits the fan the LEA is highly likely to support you too - as soon as you start making random bits of metalwork/woodwork that goes out the window.

Have you thouroughly tested internal pings around the place - i.e is it only internet latency and bad pings you are talking about and the lan to lan is all fine?

Is it posible that even though the network drop has all 8 cables working - the cable from the drop wired into the doorbell has like only 4 wires actually screwed down into the terminals inside? I've seen that type of thing before.

With the amount of CPU threads and RAM avaialble on servers nowadays most schools could probably get away with just one server, ideally two for some redundancy. I swear by dell poweredge been using them for 20 years and never had one fail (other than a few hard drives which are par for the course). A pair of R740XD with some nice tiered SSD and SAS storage would sort 95% of schools in the world out I recon! Also - if your hiding this from the LEA be careful is your name is actually Noel from Stafford it wouldnt take an LEA genious too long to work out who you are?

Updates can be a problem - windows, chrome os, IoS, adobe cloud, etc it's all gigabytes and gigabytes per machine. Cache me if you can!!!

I've got 2 different backup jobs One for our main 3 Vms with all pupil staff and admin data on, and one for the rest of the servers. It makes it easier to set different copy intervals or differnt backup copy jobs - i.e I want those 3 main servers backed up day in day and coppied to the cloud wheras the other servers really don't matter quite so much and thus the copy jobs dont run as often. Seems a bit of a waste of time having seperate jobs for every server?
