I've only ever had this when theres been a problem with the LA's wifi. Can you hot spot it to a 4g device and if the login loop goes away you know it's something to do with wifi/filtering/firewall

I have had SSD's die. I would say slap another SSD in there and rebuild but you may have trouble getting it apart which is exactly the reason I've literally never bought an All in one in 20+ years.

This is a very awkward one - on the one hand the LA are being bullied by the legal might of ESS to not give out database passwords (so as to effectively make it difficult for schools to migrate away). The LA legal team have probably just decided they aint taking on that fight as it might be unwinnable - so say no to the school. That leaves you in a situation where LA won't help you and ESS won't help you. Can Arbor help you in a legal sense - it's in their interests to help set a legal precedent that brings ESS's anticompetitive actions to a stop? Otherwise both arbor and bromcom are not gonna get any more migrations done from now onwards!! I feel sorry for you as the Head - stuck in the middle of a legal quagmire when all you want to do is improve outcomes for your pupils. ESS should be ashamed they are punishing schools headteachers and pupils just to keep market share.

Wow I would be extremely annoyed if those devices couldn't be updated after only 6 or 18 months that's outrageous!!!

I don't mind having a 3rd party on side to get things set up quicker and have a bit of higher support if anything goes pear shaped and 230 a month isn't too bad (compared to current leasing costs!!) Did you buy your phones outright or lease them?

Installing keylogger etc. aside which we all know shouldnt be possible as staff are not allowed to install apps/download exe etc etc right? they don't need to hack anything as the teacher already has emails / mis / etc etc open so the kid can just click on a window and and go to town. No hacking involved at all and nothing IT security can really solve either. Still potentially a data breach / cyber security issue though.

Where's it getting updates from? Your own WSUS server or an LA or higher up one, or widows update direct?

Realistically nowadays the cybersecurity threat is so real, there is no Seurity v convenience. Just security. (unless you want to be one of those schools in the newspaper headlines, that chose convenience)

To be fair it is a bit mad that you can buy a £2000 graphics card and you get an app that looks like it was made for windows 3.1. Oh wait, it was made for windows 3.1!!! If all the seneca videos are on just one channel e.g. youtube.com/senecavideos then you should be able to get teh ISP to unblock just that one channel? If their all over the place then it's not really going to be possible to do that without buying extra software and even then, you may fall foul of local/regional filtering requirements if you allow teachers to control the YouTube access as they'd basically be turning all of youtube on and off. (and probably forgetting to turn it off....)

It basically comes down to classroom management. If the teacher can't be bothered to make sure pupils give pencils back, they won't bother making pupils give Chromebook back either. it won't work unless it's an Headteacher / SLT Mandate > "You will ensure pupils put back and plug in or else." I've only been to one school where the head is beast mode to accomplish this - every single classroom I walked in had the trolleys plugged in and chromebooks all perfect. I guess they didn't want their P45s over some chromebooks.

Ah. Well I'm using free Mosyle as it's ..... free.... but I've been told by people who have used both that Meraki is better. It doesn't surprise me, mosyle is a bit clunky and poorly laid out.

I thought they stopped their free version a couple of years ago?

Yeh I remember the old days too still got my RM Certified Technician and IT Manager badges Sadly we were forced to recycle a load of old RM stuff when we lost our store rooms. I even had an RM380Z. Didcot were super pie hot on all the RM stuff back in the day. I am assuming they've moved away from RM now though.

Sorry old bean - I did not mean it to sound so flippant and unhelpful I just wanted to clarify if your school has actually signed a new contract or not. It's been proven before that if a staff member signs a legally binding contract the school will be held to it, even if that staff member technically did not have responsibility/authorisation to sign contracts like that - e.g, a teacher. Once it's been signed by a member of staff your going to have an uphill legal struggle to get out of it. Our LA made a massive fuss about no one signing anything to do with ESS/SIMS without the SIMS or Legal team being with us on a teams call too!
