We use RDCMan from Microsoft Sys Internals here which i see is now at version 2.92

We use mutiny here and under the educational licencing its £1 per node monitored per annum. I think they said it was in the pipeline... my boss did the enquiry... We too use the Parents evening system, which is why we went with them in the first place. The mangling isn't too bad once you worked out the 'extras' that bromcom have exported. Its more remembering how i wrote the macros in order to edit them from last year.

We moved to Room Booking by School Cloud from our old MRBS system. It doesn't have Bromcom intergration (yet), but seems to have every other MIS system. We use Bromcom and to get data into the room booking system, i do an export from Bromcom of IT rooms, and then use macro's in a spreadsheet to 'mangle' the data into a form that can be imported into the room booking system. For staff that need to 'manage' items, i use groups in room booking and assign permissions to the groups and put the relevant (office) staff in there. We use SAML/ ADFS SSO for staff to get onto the system. Our staff seem to love it. From announcing it to staff the first booking arrived in under 5 minutes!

as mentioned above.. but also look at this post as i had trouble with NVMe drives. It was to do with the Intel VMD mode in the bios, turn it off and the 'C' drive will appear for PXE use. you may need to use AHCI mode rather than raid mode as mentioned above.

Hi Gareth, I'm not sure VLC will handle a stream in and out, but i may be wrong... it will definitely open a file and stream that out... Does VLC at least play the output of the WinTV10? As i've found VLC can be a bit 'funny' with transcoding, we went the whole hog and built an IPTV streaming box on Linux using DV Blast. We only use 1 tv tuner so have to change it depending on the source required. Its usually left on the BBC multiplex. Sorry i can't help more.

have a look at this post We had the same issue with Lenovo NVMe drives. Turned out to be an Intel VMD setting in the bios. turning it off and the PXE/USB builds could then 'see' the disc. Might help you.

We used Siklu radio links to link our main building and the 6th form across the road after a tractor took out the cable strung across the road... been very happy with them, but its a very short link (~35m) and we had special 'short link' firmware installed to help. It's a 1 gig link and handles all the 6th form traffic including VOIP etc. it was expensive (£5k), but highways and the Electricity company wouldn't let us put a new cable across the road, so we were stuck. In other areas when we've needed a point to point link, we've used Ubiquity Nanobeams (link here) and have been suprised how well they work for the price (we paid about £70 for each end). We thought for £140 for a link, they were worth a punt! We've now got 3 sets of them running in various 'hard to get a cable installed' places.

We're a Office 365 school / Trust and so we used a site(s) in Sharepoint and made it the home page in the browser for staff... the site homepage had all the links for staff as icons... We tried to persuade them to use bookmarks etc, but they all like the icons to click. We used to use a different site for Students, but now they have office.com as their landing page. Nick

We had a similar issue when we tried to get our mifare cards to work on Biostore and our Paxton door readers... We found a conversion formula and used excel to convert. We used the 'DEC2HEX and after a shuffle, HEX2DEC to give us a number. Its to do with little endian and big endian numbers i think and how the numbers are read in HEX. My spreadsheet doesn't work on your numbers however... Its finding the pattern in HEX that seems to be the trick. This mifare site has some useful info... my2p

Veeam here three...! We use it across our schools... So much easier to use than our previous software, which took 2 days to restore a server from a backup (spent most of its time indexing the drives...) Veeam is also very good at the single file restore when a student 'loses' a vital coursework document...!

If it were me... and you have no backups of the data... and the old server can't be coaxed into life... then i'd try building another server, get it running... and then add the raid card from the dead server, get its drivers working ok. then add the drives from the raid to the 'new' server, connecting the drives to the raid card in the same order they were before. It may come back to life... raid configs are sometimes held on one of the drives. You don't want to get into any of the 'create raid' options, obviously...! But there may be a 'recover raid config from disc' option amongst the raid card bios settings. You can try a google of 'recover raid from *make / model or raid card*... might reveal something... there is probably some magic that a linux guru could do on a linux box with the raid... but that's way out of my knowledge... as @Davit2005 has said, expect to get nothing back, anything you do will be a bonus. my 2p

I had this issue when trying to re-image Lenovo laptops for deployment.. no 'C' drive to install anything to... just the windows press a key to load drivers etc. This was with either a PXE or USB boot discs... Found a web article about the Intel VMD driver in the bios... Disable it and the Intel AHCI options come to life. Once disabled, the build 'found' the 'C' drive and was happy... This article mentions the options of Intel VMD or plain NVMe

Personally i use Avid Media Composer, but i'm ex BBC so that's what i was used to... most have a fairly steep learning curve... my 2p

in the 'keep it simple' approach... i'd use a bog standard hand held video camcorder... mount it on a suitable bracket and strap it to the lighting bar. Run the HDMI back to the TV. For power, plug the camera PSU into a tail on the lighting bar, and at the control room end, patch that lead direct to a switched mains socket, assuming your lighting outlets aren't permanently patched to dimmer outputs. or, as audio isn't important, mount it in the control room, or any other place with a suitable view of the stage, and zoom in till you get the stage... my 2p

I've always used the Rufus tool to make Bootable USB's, and before that the RMPrepUSB tool... not tried it with Win11, so don't know what it'll do to the WIM file... If its a FAT32 USB, then the max file size is 4Gb usually. my 2p

we use Veeam and synology boxes... and some other NAS boxes as well... For your awfull disc speed... and forgive the question...you haven't got SMR drives in the NAS, rather than CMR drives..? fell foul of this in a 4 drive NAS box at home. SMR drives in a raid situation are diabolical... Loads of horror stories about SMR, one of many comparisons here. my 2p

We use Smoothwall and a thought occurred that to set your proxy to Port 801 in order to use the Smoothwall exceptions. On the Smoothwall, its under Guardian, webfilter, exceptions. You'll need to put the IP address of the machine in the 'source exception' list on the Smoothwall... If the response is better, then at least it would narrow it down to a filtering issue. PS... change the setting back before any 'users' get on the machine. my 2p.

Hi there, We found the 'air in a can' very expensive.. as some of our PC's almost needed a full can to do the job properly... so we used a similar thing to this. It's a tad noisy, but on a long lead its fine and good for ceiling projectors to clean the filters as well. my 2p Edit: keep your mask handy though..

Haven't tried the other monitoring solutions mentioned, but we use Mutiny (http://www.mutiny.com). Paid for itself when it alerted us to a failed HD in a raid array one of our main servers. Educational pricing works out around £1 per node for us. You need a dedicated 'appliance' to run it, but it can be virtual.. Gives a great display for the office (we use a tab rotator on the browser to give us different views of the data) Its free for 10 nodes so you can try it before you commit to it. We use the free version for our 5 Primaries (one server and a couple of switches etc) Not connected to mutiny.com in any way, but very impressed by it. my 2p

As @Andrew_C says... it sounds like a 'floating earth' type of problem... does it happen whilst the laptop is plugged into its charger? what happens if the charger is unplugged from the laptop (this should be OK). As it happens in multiple rooms, assuming the same laptop and charger, i'd suspect the charger / laptop combo. Is it possible to try a different charger? To rule out a laptop hardware issue, try plugging a hdmi lead (with the other end disconnected) into the laptop, if it still does it, looks like a fault in the HDMI socket on the laptop. As its the same person... could be a static issue? if somebody else plugs in the lead is it ok? My 2p
