Finished watching Netflix's Lost in Space last night. Beyond there being a Robinson family, a robot that says "Danger, Will Robinson" at some point, a devious Dr. Smith and a Jupiter 2, there's not a whole lot that ties it to its movie namesake (and I can make no comparison about the 1960's TV series). But that's OK, you couldn't really stretch the movie out into a series anyhow. This retelling follows the story of the somewhat dysfunctional Robinson family who leave a polluted, dying earth, as is to be expected. They are in command of the Jupiter 2, which is one of many Jupiter ships, with the intent to colonise alien worlds. But, as is often the case in these space dramas, $Something goes awry and they are forced to crash-land on a planet along with several of the other Jupiters. The rewrite of Dr. Smith is especially fantastic, who goes from the movie's clichéd-and-obviously-evil-bad-guy to a much more subtle, and as a result incredibly more sinister and compelling, villain. Given the longer screentime, the Robinson children are considerably more fleshed-out than in the movie. Will isn't just a brainy kid. Penny isn't just a teenage girl stereotype. Judy isn't just the medic with the crush on the anti-hero. Overall, very enjoyable. A few 'Oh c'mon, really?' moments, but a healthy dose of, nail-biting, heart-wrenching or genuinely human moments more than makes up for it. Would recommend

Got an email on Saturday notifying me that my account had been authorised into The Division 2 technical alpha. It's still got a fair few bugs, as you'd expect for an alpha, but overall feels fun. I'll be looking into it closer to its release and, depending on its monetisation method, might go ahead and pick it up at launch.

Yeah, the trick is to either get no people to claim copyright, or to get two people to claim copyright and the video stays up whilst they argue amongst themselves over who gets to monetise it

I keep hearing snippets about Elite from the housemate every now and again.. The amount of content you get isn't too bad for, what was it, £13 for this expansion? Which is like a year of updates? That's a pricing model done right.

tl;dr: 'I did a thing, everything is fine, should I be worried?' Nah, if everything is running fine, leave it as-is. GeForce Experience lists a NVidia GeForce 1070 because, unsurprisingly, you have an NVidia GeForce 1070. My EVGA 980Ti Hybrid shows up as a NVidia GeForce 980Ti and those are the drivers I use. The additional branding that manufacturers put on it doesn't make a difference to the fact that it's still a GeForce 1070 and it's using the same core as the rest of them. What the manufacturers do is usually provide custom fan curves, replacement coolers and a factory overclock, but it's still a 1070 at the base of it, so you have nothing to worry about (There's sometimes some extra faff that ends up changing the actual board, but you don't need to worry about that unless you're slapping a custom water block on top)

Unfortunately you've only got Instagram's report function, and if they say "Nah mate.", there's not much else you can do. And from personal experience, they're pretty poor at removing accounts that pose safeguarding concerns. We had "our headmaster" messaging pupils asking for gossip etc a while back. Reported the account from our school's official account, included info, got a resounding "Nope" back.

Yeah I wasn't quite sure about that one either, I mean I get the bit where he was already significantly weakened, and from what we know Tim Shaw has no projectile or ranged weaponry, he has to kill with touch, so advancing on Graham would be a bad idea, and I also get a gunshot plasma bolt to the foot's gotta hurt in any universe.. But to get him into that chamber they would presumably have to hoik him in themselves as I can't see him getting in voluntarily, and if they were doing that, they were in range of his almost-as-cold-as-when-your-partner's-legs-touch-yours-at-night hands. Aside from that, I can't say I have any real gripes with the episode. It was all very Who, Jodie's quirky-but-sometimes-kind-of-cringy-on-purpose ("Fam") Doctor is growing on me, and to be honest I don't have a whole lot negative to say about the writing this time around either. Yet again I'm like a broken record saying that Bradley Walsh absolutely nailed it, as he has been doing all season, with his solemn grief performance, though yet again we have an episode where one of the companions (Yaz again) doesn't really do a whole lot of anything. I have to admit I'm a tiny bit disappointed we didn't get more from the Stenza.. Tim Shaw sets them up to be this whole warrior race, and then Angstrom mentions their systematic cleansing of Albar, and yet we've not seen a single other one of them. I was half hoping Tim Shaw would have returned home properly, rallied up the troops and gone to war against The Doctor/Earth ("The adversary has technology far beyond that which we saw last time. Finally we need not just hunt - now the Stenza will enjoy war!"), but this disappointment is fleeting and I did still very much enjoy the episode we got. It's a shame it took them until the final episode to find their footing, and even moreso since the next season won't be airing until 'early 2020'. These huge gaps are really dampening interest in the show, but maybe they serve to generate hype when they relaunch? Or maybe it's just not feasible to do 11 episodes a year? I dunno. Still, it's a bit of a bummer.

Housemate works for Tesco Mobile, he says the amount of people phoning up demanding compensation because their phone service was critical to their business, etc etc. He was on lates yesterday so he didn't start until 11:00 and apparently the queue was >200 before his shift even started. Apparently the bosses gave everyone permission/instruction to point out the parts of the contract that say service is cannot be guaranteed, may be outages, etc. Also he had fun with the 'critical business' callers by asking them why they hadn't opened a business account (which comes with SLA's etc) and he'd be happy to have the business division call them back.. Unsurprisingly they had no takers

You don't need to capture with just MDT, do you? I used to just deploy stock .iso's, with a few custom steps in the task sequence (things like setting backgrounds that only needed to be done the once) and let group policy take care of the rest. Never once did I ever capture a machine. Or is that WDS? Is there event a difference? I dunno.. Only real difference between my old MDT/WDS setup and the SCCM setup I use now is that I deploy .wim's rather than .iso's and there's no optional applications step (how I wish that were a thing in SCCM).

I was considering getting into Kill Team sometime after Christmas (when I've actually got money again )

Got round to watching it last night.. Oh good heavens, would you look at that? A decently paced episode! And it wasn't written by Chibnall. Fancy that! OK, yeah, so I'm being a little bit facetious. But it was something I picked up on. We're still having a bit of 'too many companions' though. Yet again we have Bradley Wash nailing his performance, and Ryan had his turn playing a decent role.. But what did Yaz do? I'm struggling to recall anything she did that actually mattered. As seems to be the recurring theme, the ending felt rushed. I'll be the first to admit I'm not quite sure how I'd portray a physical manifestation of a conscious universe, but I don't think I'd pick a talking frog. At least they recognised it was a bit stupid and scripted The Doctor asking about it, but being self-aware about your daftness doesn't negate the fact that it's daft in the first place. The null space (or was it void space?) was dingy and different enough, but they didn't spend too much time lingering on it as a plot point, which is good. I do wish they hadn't killed the creepy dude they met there, but it's clear they wanted to set him up as a nasty man, and they didn't want his presence interfering with the mad rush home, but it just made the entire section he was in just feel a bit pointless. I appreciate a potential adversary being defeated by their own greed or other such vice, but for that kind of thing to really pay off we need to be a lot more invested in that adversary than we were with what's-his-face. Also I liked the touch of all the scenes inside the mirror universe being horizontally flipped. I know they're not the first show to do it and it doesn't really add much to the plot but it was still a nice detail. I think the way they played Ryan finally calling Graham Granddad was done well, especially the playful jab about going deaf. That struck me as very real.
