WP7 here and it is a good phone, does all the phone stuff reliably and my ancient one with a single core 1ghz chip has a smoother UI than most other phones I have tried short of the quad core SIII. For what you want, a reasonable size phone with a memory card slot the Nokia 820 should be a good phone. The WP stuff is good and although the API still has a few holes the support is going up and more apps are being made. The UI really is good for a phone which is what it was designed for.

Just wondering if it is another NZ issue or effecting everyone. Currently choking out much of the time and only loading after a couple of refreshes. I'm still not ruling out my ISP breaking stuff again as it would not be the first time they have broken international routes weirdly, the government brought them and they have been going down hill since.

Sometimes I let it activate via KMS but usually just rearm it, as long as you have enough reactivations left your good. I just find some stuff binds up if it is outside the activation window like windows updates.

To run these numbers you'll need to get responses from those (active users who have read the thread) that don't too otherwise you will be unable to determine the sample size.

To be fair TMG had some massive problems that they never seemed to be able to fix along with a complete lack of IP6 support. I think they may have simply done a value assessment and realised that it would cost too much to fix and they were better off re-architecting a new product or dropping it entirely. They may go back in future and build an advanced client firewall but given their push everything to the cloud, consumer for everything push at the moment giving people the means to host and secure things themselves is actually acting against their corporate direction. It is unfortunate but we'll just have to see how it all turns out and whether the cloud pushers (both companies and deluded fans) end up managing to cripple and lobotomise most networks to the point that they are all entirely at the mercy of external providers for absolutely everything short of changing a power adapter.

The other companies don't claim in the courts to have invented everything. Certain other companies did actually have decent engineering cred and did really make useful tech like Nokia and Motorola for cell systems, of course these patents for real technologies are the ones Apple tries to devalue in order to push its patents for rounded corners and icons in a grid. HP invented stacks of stuff to do with printing, IBM built entire systems and CPUs along with the BIOS. Intel invented most of Apples current stuff when IBM stopped doing it via the PPC architecture. EFI, Firewire, Lightpeek/thunderbolt, even the MacBook air was an intel reference platform with a few mods. Hell, the Disney corporation has probably made more meaningful contributions and before anyone goes accrediting them to Jobs he was only a single director for a comparatively short period of time. Acer would be the equivalent of brand X china made budget clothing, LaCie would be at best department store goods.

DNS, specifically suffixes when dealing with dfs can take a while to get sorted after boot on some stations, full paths or even additional A records for dfs can help. Why not just use the full dns path for everyone if it works? You can also push dns suffixes through GPO however full paths are probably better.

Re-enforcing the stereotype I can't even get a GF let alone hook up long enough to end up with a kid. I guess it's a by-product of speaking binary as a first language.

Yeap, should be fine. Any virtual environment will do as long as it does not require embedded drivers. Some like Intel will literally poison an image (their driver dev teams should be punished). You may need to register the image on occasion to get it all running while updating the image, you get several rearms (slmgr.vbs) which I tend to use to keep it all running before the sysprep - I think its 5 or so but you need to keep one free for the eventual image rearm. We end up doing images from scratch anyway just for cleanliness when there are major releases like SP1 for W7 and Office 2010SP1. This takes a little longer but you end up with a smaller cleaner image as a result. We do universal images so keeping the drivers out of it till the last possible minute makes it workable over around 50 different device types.

Virtual environment, I use Hyper-V which keeps dodgy drivers out and I take a copy of the VHD before sysprep. I then sysprep it, mount the VHD via 2k8 r2 disk manager and then manually imagex it, quicker via a directly mapped drive on a beefy server.

Cant you jump into the management interface during the BIOS startup phase, F1 or 3 or something during boot and reset the password and management IP?

It just comes down to licencing, if you already have datacentre or even two copies of standard you can just install one as the host and two guest partitions. The windows licence gets you a GUI on the host if you want it, if you are installing core its basically the same. If you are looking at clustering later on and only have standard now using hyper-v base could be better as it has the clustering stuff built in where as I don't think standard does.

Not sure I understand this, is it going via a server or just direct and if direct are you using the universal drivers. If it is a server you can just change the drivers and it will just push it out in the background to the clients, transparent for Vista and 7 and a reboot or two for XP dinosaurs. If its just via the IP and the universal driver it may work. If its via the IP and a specific driver is is likely to cause at least a few issues with paper trays etc. if it works. HP was really good for transferable drivers but not sure about Ricoh. I have seen huge variation in their drivers so if it is a printer specific driver then it will depend massively on the printers themselves. All and all, through a server is much easier and offloads stuff from the printer too.

XP is junk with wireless, a decent managed system like Ruckus can help by withholding bad choices from clients that are behaving stupidly though which is helpful. As above update the drivers to the latest versions and in advanced settings wind up the aggressiveness of the ones that 'stick' to access points. This should help a bit and make it more manageable.

@dhicks, the keyboard will work fine but the lack of a Windows key will hurt the usability as a desktop device. You may be able to use a key remapper to make an extra ctrl key into a Windows key though. Remapping Keys and Buttons
