I hate Apple but I have to agree that they have forced better standards on their devs (irony, auto corrected to devas) each platform still has a useless bar, iOS at the top, android at the bottom. 20px plus of screen real estate that could have been saved if buttons were not 'uncool'. Insanely pricing on the app store is also skewed, the wp7 store is cheaper for many things, as is the apple one. Not what you'd expect from the largest market.

You're probably right, I just don't like to be beaten by dodgey hardware/software.

Icons and 'active wallpaper', it's windows 95. Fine if that's your thing but it's a bit grating given that was the 'reason' people gave for superiority of android over windows mobile, the ui is no better. As to taking it back and warranty voiding nz is different, consumer protections exist but it practically takes a lawyer to get them honoured. Besides, the charging thing is an intermittent and known software bug to do with telling the charger to step up amperage, turn it off isolating the dodgy is and it goes fine. The screen glass is already starting to separate. If I take it back it will be for a refund rather than a replacement as this is all likely to happen again. I even tried the standard advice of factory resetting (reformat anyone) and still get the wait for icons on occasion. I can't beleive this is the best Google can do with its own hardware.

Virtual PC probably would be easier, got windows 7 enterprise?

Thats the thing, it charges fine most of the time, it just chokes out on the odd occasion. The Facebook ap alone has billboards every few posts. The wp7 app has no ads at all. If I have to void the warranty out of the box to make it bearable I may as well have brought an apple :-(

Have you run the update to 4.2? Since then the launcher has crashed a bunch of times for me, apps black screen and die, sometimes the launcher takes up to 10 s to display home screen icons. When I first got it I had to turn it off to charge it as even with WiFi, location and the screen off it was draining power faster than the charger was adding it. The browser works great but it's unlikely I'll ever buy another android device. This one has confirmed all my worst fears about the platform. You damn near have to buy a separate app just to turn it on and it is full of ads. I am keeping it in case it manages to grow on me with future updates but its really just a mobile browser with priority access to Google's ad channel.

There was also a post on here about a US school that had 600+ iPads and had to block and limit traffic to the app store as just the basic check in and update check traffic from that many iPukes choked out their internet. They are not designed to play nicely in anything other than a home or small cafe.

I brought one of those, not impressed, the software is unstable, the ui is from windows 95 and the app store is full of expensive apps that usually don't work well or at all on it. The web is full of known issues on the whole line, no December, slow charging and/or really fast discharging, crashing, auto brightness flicker, broken Bluetooth stack that jitters audio and drops keyboards. Then there is the build 'quality' where the screen glass detaches and bulges in the middle near the sides. I should have got a w8 device despite the doubling of the price tag. Still won't touch an apple device, their ui is also from 95 but it is the kindigarden 'chooser' apple app from then.

Unless you have turned off auto offline sync it may be doing it automagiclly for you.

That's not laser burn, the laser is no where near powerful enough to do any damage at all, that is a scratch which is a known issue with Xboxes when they are moved with a disk in the tray. PS3s have a habit of eating more than one disk if fed them, I think the record is five disks at once at one electronics store. There is even a sticker on the xbox tray saying so when you buy it. People who think it has anything to do with the laser burning it are simply clueless of physics. As above toothpaste is a micro abrasive so some on a micro fibre cloth and gentle rubbing should sort it, video stores - if you still have them - also offer a 'resurfacing' service most of the time which is the same thing.

Or they could buy this cool new thing called a TV, yikes these iWorshipers will do anything to not have to take their eyes of their iTrinkits.

Ha, EPG never even worked in nz, not for more than the current and next show. Approx no loss here. It shows that no-one really cares about nz when examining the tech that works here without hacking it.

Yay In seriousness I have been looking for a way to dump that on my nexus 7. For tablets and phones that ui is great, desktops not as much but it is just as bearable as unity if not more so. I actually prefer not having to download an app for every little thing. Anyhow Ubuntu getting tested and optimised more for mobile devices will be great, it may lead to less lobotomised devices in future.

Or a headless xbmc with dlna to keep things generic, you can augment with a moniter easily in future to but the droid tab may be easier, that software from above and you can both push and request content along with a handy touch interface for the kitchen. When will they have this tested out for tablets, still painful dealing with androindows 3.1 , I mean 4.2 . maybe I can even find a metro skin for the ui

Never managed to get deep burner or image burn to successfully burn a CD on anything above xp so maybe a point against for those two.

Chkdisk is a big hammer and will happilly cover over files it can't recover and 'clean' away all hint to their existence in file tables etc. I'd get the system as stable as possible before running it. Basicly what it can't save it will destroy, taking a raw image first may be a good call depending on how required the files are.

Replied to this before from the end of the pier but Board Express ate it Basicly see if you can set up the pi as a dlna dmr (digital media renderer). With the tablet see if it can run aVia from the play store, it can act as a dmr and DMC as well as a dlna server. This means that you can push media to it from dlna sources and use it to push media to other dlna devices. This makes it really easy to setup and push a playlist of stuff from your has via a phone or even share pictures and videos right from your phone to the device. I use dlna push all the time as you can do it from many devices and it's quicker than fluffing with a menu and remote.
