  1. I'd agree with ict_support - CMS Made Simple is another good contender. I'm currently in the process of setting up a basic site for a personal client using CMS Made Simple and it's rather good so far.
  2. I and others on here highly recommend CS New Media.
  3. school: Every school should have been assigned their own .sch.uk address - even if you've never used it. Nominet should be able to tell you what yours is. In theory, you should then be able to buy hosting, then ask Nominet to change the IPS tag for the domain to your hosting provider's. I say in theory, because years ago I tried to resolve the issue for our .sch.uk domain with Nominet but the process failed completely and at the time the support wasn't much help. In the end we just bought our own .net domain and hosted it ourselves.
  4. TheRegister mainly. But I also find a lot out via people I follow on Twitter and tech-specific blogs like CouchDB, GeeXboX, Mozilla Labs, Coding Horror etc - they sometimes link to other interesting things.

    bash to GUI

vaisarger Isn't your method overkill (and additional, unnecessary) dependencies if you only want console-based dialogs?

    bash to GUI

Instead of Xdialog, for the console - just use dialog. Make your bash scripts user friendly using - dialog | All about Linux Designing Simple front ends with dialog/Xdialog LG #101
  7. Adding the autocomplete="off" attribute to the tag should do it.
  8. As an aside to what Irazmus mentions about mailbox backups on Zimbra, it is possible to do it in the open-source edition via the command-line tool zmmailbox, so can be scripted. zmmailbox -z -m [email protected] getRestURL .//?fmt=tgz > /backups/[email protected] We do mailbox backups every weekday night using the above method, and filesystem structure via Rsync at weekends.
  9. Is Karoshi all web-based now or is there still a GUI? Is it based on the LTS version(s) of Ubuntu?
  10. @Number6 The open-source edition doesn't cost anything apart from your own hardware and time; and this is probably fine for the majority of organisations. If you want push or other enterprisey features (compare here) then you pay for it. What you save on MS licensing will probably be more than enough to cover it (again, depending on requirements, YMMV...)
  11. @Disease Email: Zimbra - POP, IMAP, Web access - whatever you want. Email filtering can easily be added (I did a write-up on this on the EG wiki, but during the latest upgrade they moved from DokuWiki to MediaWiki so the formatting got screwed up). It would log and deny messages that contained bad words. Webspace: Yes, easy. Apache with mod_userdir. I did this guide on our own wiki - FTP and Web server [bishop Barrington IT Wiki]
  12. @p858snake: the open-source Zimbra package does all of that + more.
  13. I remember them admitting this in an early interview around the time of season 1 or 2 - but that really didn't matter at the time in my opinion. They just came up with ideas as it progressed and they implemented them. Open to interpretation - yes, very much.
  14. Are there any weird-looking events relating to network connectivity on the server logs? Is there any diagnostic information on the switch for that port which you can access?
  15. Thanks Chris - I'll put his mind at rest I'm sure we all understand how busy you are at EG HQ and appreciate all the work going on that we don't see.
  16. We never got replies, but appeared on the list to go; so I guess they received it. I must admit though, an auto-response would have been useful as confirmation that the message was at least delivered successfully. Dos_Box: Did you get the email from our other techie, Tallan, saying he could no longer make it?
  17. @powdarrmonkey For me, it's the responsiveness of the GUI (particularly Gnome) which keeps me with Windows - it's just quicker.
  18. Unfortunately, they use MS Frontpage here
  19. Good thinking Steve. Find some "Caution: biohazard" signs to stick on the office door for added effect
  20. @Mako that was an error Should only be viewable by a different, direct URL.
  21. There's already a lolcat somewhere on the site. Can you find it?
  22. Prefect!
  23. 30c in the office and we're melting. Next week, our helpdesk will consist of us working from laptops sat under the shade of a tree in the field.
  24. Lol SYNACK, Ric_ and Domino. All fantastic ideas. I'll have to work on an easter-egg method of enabling those suggestions
  25. We have a handful of these but they're only about 2 or 3m.
