  1. I have a list of EduGeeks, feel free to view/follow it - https://twitter.com/#!/webman_/edugeeks. There's also an EduGeek group on here for people on Twitter: Tweeting Geeks - EduGeek.net
  2. I keep a special suit to wear in the holidays. My Birthday Suit!
  3. Shirt, trousers and tie - mainly bought from supermarkets due to the low-cost-to-high-damage-probability ratio. I've never found ties to get in the way, but I take it off if I'm working in ceilings just to stop it getting ruined.
  4. Looks like it can't connect to the MySQL database that it expects to be running on that server. Obvious things to check: MySQL is installed MySQL is running The appropriate username and password has been created The OPT database exists The necessary details are probably in the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\opt\opt\config.php file for you to check.
  5. Use a regular expression $text = preg_replace('@(https?://([-\w\.]+)+(:\d+)?(/([\w/_\.]*(\?\S+)?)?)?)@', '$1', $text); Source: http://snipplr.com/view/2371/regex-regular-expression-to-match-a-url/
  6. PHP function nl2br will convert new lines in plain text to HTML tags
  7. Unless you're telling another fellow geek. In which case it is likely to improve matters
  8. I work in a school as a Technician, generally enjoy it, unable to progress with my current employer; but ready to move up and would take the jump outside of education if a position became available with the right conditions. I've looked, applied, and been successful once or twice; but they weren't the right environment for me or couldn't match my current pay. The main factor for me personally, is my location - without moving, I'd have to do a lot of travelling (2 hours per day) if I wanted one the big city-based jobs in Newcastle/Sunderland (of which there are quiet a few of lately). But if I move closer to the city, I'd need the salary to support the higher living costs.
  9. Same as above - no. Teachers in ICT lessons log calls via the online helpdesk when problems arise just like the rest of the staff, and we then respond appropriately.
  10. I tell people I work in the mirror factory - it's what I've always seen myself doing.
  11. Which one is Lexia on then?
  12. No, because you use silly names. ( ) Ours is called BBS-ZCS-001, not Pat. No, but I don't really think Lexia is big enough to dedicate to part of a server name to anyway. Which one of those is a file server of some sort? No idea. Which one of those is a file server of some sort? I'd guess schoolfile01 + 02.
  13. The clue's in the name?
  14. No, but that's not relevant - I know its role. With Tom, Dick or Harry names, I have even less clue. Which is why documentation is important regardless of names Structured names like that also get grouped alphabetically in lists, which is useful.
  15. Yep. BBS-WEB-001, BBS-VLE-001, BBS-XEN-001, BBS-MIS-001 - I wonder what they do?
  16. Probably. I might have been thinking of the one that secures the metal bracket in place for the inverter, but screws into the logic one.
  17. FreeWill, DrCheese: We were in the exact same situation, and thought there must be a simple and cost-effective solution. Glad it's helped
  18. Go for roaming - works well on CC3 and CC4. And users can't save anything to their desktops.
  19. It depends on your skillset, who will be the main manager/editor of the site, what features you want...
  20. No, not everyone - I think Joomla's horrible
  21. Bad code on their behalf? You're using an obscure User Agent? The User Agent header is being stripped out somewhere between you and the website? You can check your user agent here: Whats My User Agent?
  22. A bridge over troubled water?
  23. As discussed in this thread, I developed a web based solution in PHP/MySQL: PrintMaster.
  24. In the process of implementing it. A student laptop loan scheme recently finished, and we "refurbished" the best ones of those that were returned for staff use; so it wasn't too bad. Most of our staff have their own equipment, so haven't felt the full force of any backlash which may happen
  25. Sell them on Amazon Marketplace?
