Not going to post any jokes here - I wouldn't want to rock the boat.

Ah, fail compilation videos. Or, You've Been Framed 2.0 Some comical moments there.

We categories just about all of our Start Menu folders by departments. Off the top of my head, we have something resembling this: Accessories Core Programs English English Teachers Geography Teachers ICT Maths Teachers Music Teachers SIMS .net Technology Core Programs contains things like the web browser, email and Office apps. Subject-specific folders have shortcuts in for programs that are relevant to both staff and students. Ones with the Teacher suffix are for that subject staff only. All possible program shortcuts are added to the folders, but thanks to RM, only software installed on workstations are visible once logged in.

As well as PHP-GTK and WinBinder for Windows.

PHP is easy to learn, and can demonstrate both basic and more advanced 'programming' concepts (including objects), while being useful as well. Not that other languages can't do that - they can - but PHP shouldn't be discounted just because it's classed primarily as a 'scripting' language. I agree with broc and he makes a very valid point. I also believe that students will enjoy it more if it's relevant and useful at the time.

I use a similar method myself. The script uses Rsync to copy changed web files only + some config files, and mysqldump to backup the MySQL databases. All copied over the network using Samba to a NAS box which is part of a D2D2T system running BackupExec.

Ah Do you have such a thing as MS update KB888111? IIRC, that first makes the audio bus visible to Windows, which then allows the driver to successfully install. It's usually part of the driver package in some random folder, and is (should be) mentioned as a pre-requisite in the README. I can't remember if it's part of SP3 or not though. We had a similar problem. Couldn't get machines to build with the driver built-in, so I created a CC3 package that silently installed MS KB888111 and then force-installed the drivers. We're on CC4 now, so the problem is a distant memory. I may still be able to lay my hands on the package though and will post back. Watch this space.
-
But we also use CC4. If you believed half the RM complainers on here, our logons would be even longer than what they are
-
I'm not sure what policy is being hinted at either. Are the drivers related to Realtek HD Audio? Do you have a relevant HSP installed? What about logs/events etc - are there any other indicators than "sound not working" to say that they haven't installed correctly?

[hosting] What sort of hosting should I be getting for this site?
webman replied to sidewinder's topic in Web Development
CS New Media are pretty good. Their 'Lite' package allows two hosted domains for the yearly price of £29.50. It comes with everything you should need for a Joomla site. You don't mention what your current site's requirements are; but if it's straight-forward PHP/MySQL (or just static pages) then you should also have no difficulties. -
I was thinking more along the lines of certain hoops to jump through to demonstrate common sense, professional attitude and basic IT skills.

I wonder if a similar process would work in schools for recruiting teachers? Only the best of the best sort of thing

[PHP] - Add an array result of a MySQL query to a String
webman replied to FragglePete's topic in Coding
This is one way of doing it: $ResultChartX = mysql_query($query_rsSensorData); // Create a new array for the values $_values = array(); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($ResultChartX, MYSQL_NUM)) { // Add value from DB row to the array $_values[] = $row[4]; } // Glue all the array values together with a comma - $chartx_values is your string. $chartx_values = implode(',', $chartx_values); ?> -

Not sure what the arrangements are yet, as work were going to pay for transport or accommodation for the 3 of us (and we'd pay the rest ourselves), but I guess they'll only be paying for 2 now I'll get there somehow!

Thank you everyone, appreciate your words and wishes Unfortunately I must keep the escape tunnel a closely-guarded secret. I barely made it myself Broc: Yes, even though it feels as though sometimes the school hasn't, I know for sure bossman has. Hopefully I will still get down to BETT to annoy Russ [ ] and catch up with everyone else as usual.
