  1. @Mills Welcome to the madhouse!! @garethedmondson Iv'e got my cattle prod at the ready for the initiation fully charged!!
  2. @sparkeh How many students do you have in the school? Do you require free software or would the school pay? Which MIS system do you use?
  3. @DaveAshworth As they were installed 3 years ago it would be unfair of me to quote figures on a public site, let me put it a better way we got a certain company who came highly recommended by our county, as soon as they mentioned another vendors hardware I realised the price would be through the roof, with this in mind that is when I called Lan3 for a quote, when the first quote from this other company came in it was nearly 3 times that of Lan3's which for 20 APs across site configured to give maximum coverage all around the school and the a hardware controller with management license on top it became quite clear that it was a cloud based controller that we were looking at and the one that fulfilled that criterion was Aerohive which was installed and configured in just 2 days by excellent engineers. I have nothing but praise for LAN3, if it hadn't been Aerohive though it would have been Meraki as second choice. I hope this puts it into perspective and that what we paid for this was very minimum compared to all the hardware controller systems. Good Luck with whichever you choose.
  4. @superaz300 Great to see someone give credit to RM for the speed of the fix, I have been running a script which does this automatically for a few years now but I'm still on 4.2 for the moment, looking at Migration to 4.5 early summer holidays, Good stuff RM
  5. @DaveAshworth We have Aerohive here for the past 3 years, never had to touch it, company called LAN3 Network Solutions installed and supports it, have only had to call them twice in all this time for technical guidance nothing to do with the kit, give them a call with a no obligation test of your schools environment.
  6. @TomHD Great stuff! Glad you got it sorted Please try PDQ deploy even for a short period you will find it does things like this so easily and if you decide to purchase it is just peanuts for something which is so powerful. Have a good day
  7. I have 3 Synology RS3164xs units as part of our Hyper-V cluster of which 2 are in sync for failover and the other is for additional storage and they have been excellent really impressed with them so far
  8. @TomHD I use a program which is free to use called PDQ deploy for deploying complex software and runtimes plus it does just what you want and for free, you can subscribe and get the full program for around £300 which I feel is well worth it. It would literally take around 20 seconds to do what you want with this software, look it up, I used it to deploy a file for our teachers so they could use 4Matrix as it required a file to update the program, done in 20 seconds. Try it out Deploy Software with PDQ Deploy Or you could create a batch file to create a folder and install the required file within that folder and import as a CC3 application.
  9. @TomHD Do you wish for the staff to have access to this txt file? If so why put it on every computer when you can just make a shared folder through the RMMC and allow that group access and drop the txt file in there? Or am I reading your requirements wrong?
  10. @johnwheatley I know this may sound daft but what time do you have on the laptops? Are they within 5 mins of the controller and AD as this could cause authentication errors, Just a thought Edit: Beat me to it @steveg
  11. @Zammo Have you looked into Aerohive a company called LAN3 will do a complete test and price up for you, also it is cloud based which saves on purchasing hardware controllers and to be honest once setup they just work, we've had ours for 3 years now and still going strong not had to replace a single AP. Maybe worth a look
  12. @CHR1S I utilize all the power savings that I can, also the screen brightness of the OP2 works really well and I only need to have it turned to a quarter of the scale, don't have the wifi on all the time as EE signals around this area are spot on. I have location and screen rotate functioning so I suppose I could turn these off and save even more battery life if I wanted. Been using it full on since 6:30 this morning and still at 90% battery life left which equates to 4hrs = 10% so the maths would equate to 40hrs = 100% which as I stated is nearly 2 days give or take a couple of hours. Really over the moon with it for the price and the build quality, it is rather larger than some phones but like the OP1 which my daughter now has it has been very reliable since purchase and would highly recommend. I am looking at the OP3 but to tell you the truth I am more than happy with my OP2
  13. OP2 here on 6.0.1 running Oxygen 3.0 and it is immense, fingerprint scanner is vastly enhanced and the speed is brilliant, battery life is nearly 2 days with full use, just cannot fault it.
  14. @Mel_16 It should not be down to you to train staff on basic computer skills, they should already have these as part of the job specification, I would go back to your line manager and suggest that all the admin staff do the ECDL certification and this should cover all aspects of basic computer skills (Basic being the word) your remit is to support IT but not to train as this is a teaching skill which you probably do not get the remuneration for. How did you learn to use a computer? specific training is required just as admin staff require specific training this should be initialised by the school in proper training package as part of their CPD and delivered as part of a certified course.
  15. We used to have a real tidy staff share with subjects which only those subject teachers could access to prevent the usual drag and drop from one subject to another which used to happen when the member of staff was not concentrating properly (Most of the time) or deleting stuff by accident from other subject folders. This worked very well until we had action events as teachers began to teach more than one subject and you can guess the rest. Its now just a dumping ground for everything and anything so I just give up!!
  16. Doesn't mean that they will actually do this though so we as the IT team end up monitoring the system because of this, as you have stated we as the IT technical staff should only implement but because of the inconsistencies within education this does not happen, we are left holding the baby so to speak. This should be how it is but is often not the case!
  17. Really? Have you seen most teachers in an IT environment? They simply don't have a clue or pretend not too so the IT staff end up having to monitor! This is why IT teams find it difficult because of the inconsistencies in education, one rule for one group and one rule for another group, in essence the left hand doesn't know what the right hand wants or does! So much confusion in schools nowadays due to this fact, shame really
  18. @Andie Yes we have included our Parents and Staff in a covering e-mail which will allow the parents to decide whether or not they themselves would like to watch it with the thoughts that they may allow their children to watch it at home under supervision. It is a very harrowing story which does emphasise the need for parents and adults to be ever vigilant regarding children's welfare. My thoughts are that if this was a child from a loving background with caring parents then how many children from not so loving and caring backgrounds are at risk?
  19. That will do it every time!! Shellfish, my son has this reaction after eating anything shellfish! I would advise against taking it for a few weeks then trying again to see if this is the real problem.
  20. @elsiegee40 Its a brilliant piece but unfortunately it is deemed to be for over 16's which rather disappoints as the girl is relating to events which happened when she was 13. Because of the nature of the content we cannot broadcast to our students which is a little frustrating as I think it is a fantastic safeguarding tool.... Shame really but thanks for the link

All I can say to this is you must not have had the right android phone, I don't see the point in paying out good money for something which you just watch your films and TV shows on! I can watch all those and even couple my phone up to external storage for even more films and TV shows when I am travelling abroad but this is just a small thing for android whereas you have to purchase the top IPhone to get just 64GB of storage..........Hmmm! not much when one has a large collection of films and TV shows! I bought my Android phone for £269.00 8 months ago and apparently its still worth over £200.00 so on that score its the same as your IPhone except I didn't have to fork out £400 for a secondhand unit, mine also has a warranty with it so if it had a problem it would get fixed under this. I do think that Apple do make a great Phone and one of the main reasons people buy them is that they are so simple to use as if made for children..........they could be right!

Sales figures are way down for the IPhone on previous years as people are getting wise to the overhiked prices from Apple and are thus seeking out better deals by switching to android, once away from the walled garden ethics of Apple people are more than happy with the features and freedom they get from much cheaper and better looking phones, this is probably the reason why Apple are bringing back the cheaper version of their model but with less features of course, This is just my opinion mind, there are some things in life worth paying for but not an overpriced IPhone! https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/apr/26/apple-iphone-first-revenue-decline-13-years
  24. @loxford120 Its the package, you don't have all of the folders structures such as the System32, Windows and translations with all the files related to these, I ran the msi as administrator on my workstation and it came up with the errors which you have encountered as it is looking for these files within those folder structures, Have you followed the Promethean guide on how to set it up as a network installation? https://support.prometheanworld.com/help-library/?q=Network+installation+guide+activ+inspire
