We have failed to receive mail sent from another Birmingham school who are still on the old Zimbra system. I am receiving external mail fine. I have verified this as we had a teacher from another school who i watched send a mail to me and I didn't get it. A Test from gmail came thru within seconds. Also noticed more SPAM getting thru and getting blocked for executable notices caused by spammy mails.

Link2ICT are looking to fix annoyance 2. The timeout for normal users is 30 mins and the timeout for admins is 10! This is set by the LA policy.

In order of annoyance Login Timeout My users are pretty frustrated they have to keep loggin on every so often. Is it 15 or 30 mins? This is made much worse by annoyance No.2. Disables browser's password saving Mobile device password policy If you enroll a mobile device using Activesync which only has a PIN to unlock it enforces a complex password on the device. Much slower to type a password than enter a PIN. (Only tested this with iOS) presume active sync works the same on Android and WinMo. To mitigate I set my iPhones lock timeout to the max 15 minutes. Admin user Password policy. Can live with this but if you are a domain administrator for Zimbra and it's becoming a pain you could create a new admin account and demote your day-to-day account and avoid the password policy for just checking your e-mails. I use the Outlook connector so outlook remembers the password still. New version of outlook connector has been a bit flakey Rather than just reconfigure the existing ZCS connector install I decided to install the new version 8 ZCS connector. We had no issues with out Outlook 2010 machines but one Outlook 2007 user getting errors about the server not being licensed and refuses to sync. Will try reinstalling and deleting the zdb files this time. Oh, and in the Admin interface the tab key no longer moves to the next field!! Guy I spoke to about the iOS issue at Link2ICT seemed to be saying that these restrictive policies are not yet set in stone as the new Zimbra is still being rolled out across Birmingham. So if any of these issues are bugging you then it's worth adding your voice and moaning to Link2ICT.

Just be glad you don't have to order toner using this website. It stinks! It was re-coded in the last 6 months but is still will only work with outdated versions of IE!

Ricoh recently re-wrote their creaky e-service website for a new platform. I was so hopefull it may be an improvment! Before it was a git to use (developers must never have heard of combo boxes so they implemented their own cludgy mess) and now it's still a git to use but is flacky too!! We currently cannot log into this site as we get the circle/hourglass and can't click in the username and password boxes to log in. Tried in IE11,FF26.0 and Chrome all exhibit same behavior. Thought it might be our ISP/RBC but tried with iOS 7 Safari via 3G and get "safari cannot open the page because connection was lost" but it sends the javascript popup regarding multiple websessions in common with other browsers if i refresh the page. Can edugeekers test it for me? RICOH UK & Ireland - eService UPDATE: Works in IE8 and 9 natively and IE11 in compatibility mode. Haven't tested in IE10.

Hi, I need help with licensing: Scenario Hyper V 2012 R2 Host With 2x guests OS's Guest A Windows Server 2008 R2 (Sims Server) Guest B Windows Server 2012 R2 (DC, DHCP) What is the most efficient way to license this? Do you get any free guest instances with Win Srv 2012 R2 enterprise? Don't need any extra features just need to do this the most cheaply. Also if I am correct that you get 2 free guests how do you activate the downgraded 2008 instance? I believe with the 2012 guest it will activate automagically as a hyper-v guest.

I always thought it was better to do a fresh install where possible asp with critical systems such as DC's. I am deciding for my new SIMS server what OS to go for 2008 R2 or 2012/R2? If I can do an easy inplace upgrade later I will go for 2008 R2 as 2012 R2 is not supported by Capita yet. All advice gratefully received

@Ghostgame Will the effect every future SIMS upgrade untill they fix the issues? I am also deploying a new server. I am still running Server 2003 R2 with SQL 2008. We have had SIMS for less than 2 years and LA did not mention that 2003 was unsupported. I am not going to panic and try to get the server up and running before the Census this month but will need to get a move on anyway. We have new hardware waiting to use as our Virtual SIMS server. I really don't want to have the pain of migrating OS again sooner than I need to hence I want to do the following: -Install Windows Server 2012 R2 OS instance -Install SQL 2008 R2 (buy 2012 license for later upgrade) Is this possible? The 2003 R2 Server is also a DC for our MIS domain

Anyone know how quickly Link2ICT are rolling out Zimbra 8 to schools? Should probably call them.

I'm talking to Promultis about a 42" capacitive screen. Not sure technically what the difference is between different InfraRed optical digitisers. Some have cameras or do all. Would be great to have someone who knows comment who isn't flogging something.

Interesting. We have 1st Gen (non LED glossy) CleverTouch screens and iBoards. I am not very impressed with the accuracy and speed of using a pen for writing with. Not as good as oldschool ActivBoards!! I ran Bluestacks Android emulation on one and angrybirds works really well (better than handwriting with pen) It is interesting that the ProMultis says "if a person uses a touchscreen and the touch experience is bad.. They wont use it again" think that is true but they don't really convince me that their infraRed solution is betterthan anyone else's. SMART claim to have added proprietary secret sauce to theirs to improve accuracy but their prices are sky high. We have also had issues with USB extenders and both types of LCD touch boards we have. Promethean have finally got a LCD touch board and it's a similar price to a clevertouch AND it properly licensed to use ActivInspire. Woo! Again not convinced the accuracy is any better than clevertouch.

The supplier of the iBoards we got over the summer has still not been able to get them working via Cat5 USB extenders. I am going to buy a mini PC and mount it to the back of the board. Kudos to Promethean for adding a VESA mounting point rather than forcing users to buy their integrated PC. Does Promethean recommend using a HI-LO lift with the ActivPanel Touch?

Hi, I am interested in buying the new ActivPanel Touch. I have had a look at the tech specs but need to know if Promethean have done anything to improve on CleverTouch hardware? For example I find the CleverTouch and similar boards to have issues with Parallax (due to gap between digitiser glass and LCD) and inaccurate hand writing compared to an oldschool ActivBoard. I haven't seen a Smart touch board in person yet but they say they've added proprietary secret sauce to the usual infrared digitiser to improve performance. Also have these new ActivPanels been tested with USB extenders? We have CleverTouch and iBoards which hate USB extenders that have worked well with USB ActivBoards.

+1 for The Hills Components Hills Components UK headphones. They come in individual bags which eliminates tangling. If the earpads get ripped off (they are rubber not foam and none broken so far) you can order spares. Also the cord is fabric covered so they are tangle resistant. We paid £4.50 each for them. In practice (after 6months) we have never had to use any of the spare earpads but we have had some of the bags lost or torn. We have also had one 3.5mm plug tip broken off inside a PC. We have had no other breakages. But the microphones are not very sensitive.

I find the single multicolour LED status indicator VERY cryptic. I usually tell staff not to attempt deleting files from the device just do it from windows. Even worse the Easi Speak Pro has a full dot matrix display but they still choose to use the cryptic multicolour LED as the main indicator. From the Manual A standard USB mp3 AAA powered dictaphone would be better as if the easi-speak's have not been charged you have to wait to use them whereas AAA batteries can just be swapped out for instant use.

I would actually like to have a Virtual Corkboard on our intranet. Would be configured with open authentication. Would ideally just load up and allow anyone to add/remove notes like a wiki but more visual. Is there any open source projects/commercial products which do this?

Recently got quotes thru for Lightspeed and Airwatch. A lot cheaper than I assumed!! Also both have the concept on multiuser devices where the user "checks in" using thier AD credentials and then a profile based on group membership is loaded. Also possible to lock down websites iOS devices can access with Airwatch using their own browser. With Lightspeed you have to buy their own "bottle rocket" web proxy appliance which pc's can use too

Thought this little tip would help people struggling with expensive backup solutions. It is possible to schedule disk2VHD to allow bootable backups for DR. Have not had time to try this out myself.
