  1. Got this on weekly scan. Interesting that it found in 2Simple Collection. Really annoys me that sophos info pages about viruses invariably are devoid of any usefull information. File "C:\Program Files (x86)\2Simple Software\2Simple collection\2Type\Admin Settings\reportTool.exe" belongs to virus/spyware 'Mal/EncPk-AAK'. Registry value "HKU\S-1-5-21-555032959-2862063602-2195562804-3888\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoRun" belongs to virus/spyware 'Mal/EncPk-AAK'. Registry value "HKU\S-1-5-21-555032959-2862063602-2195562804-3613\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoRun" belongs to virus/spyware 'Mal/EncPk-AAK'. Virus/spyware 'Mal/EncPk-AAK' has been removed.
  2. Any update on these exciting projects? Like being able to use scratch to interact with sensors and motors etc.
  3. From the horses mouth (Apple) https://www.apple.com/education/it/dep/ Some older devices qualify for DEP https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204142
  4. Seems like Apple have been listening to ur feedback! The madness of invididual Apple ID's for iPads using Managed distribution of apps is over (as of iOS 9 at least). It was announced at WWDC 2015. WWDC: What's New in Managing Apple Devices? Quite a lot! | Enterprise iOS https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2015/?id=301
  5. What he said! AFAIK if you do not supervise devices you can not apply all restrictions using an MDM. These are some of the restractions that Lightspeed themselves list as requireing supervision. I only use Apple Configurator to supervise initially then I use Lightspeed day to day. As of iOS 9 even more restrictions are being made supervised only http://www.enterpriseios.com/story/2015/06/12/WWDC_Whats_New_in_Managing_Apple_Devices_Quite_a_lot
  6. Get yourself a toploader HDD Docking Station - USB to SATA and IDE External HDD Dock | StarTech.com United Kingdom vEry usefull for reading loose HDD's also does 2.5" and 3.5" IDE disks
  7. You would pay the same or more for a comparable spec DELL or Lenovo Ultrabook with SSD. Microsoft were marketing the Surface as replacment for a laptop and tablet and justifiying the cost as a 2 in one device. However that assumes there are any apps worth using on the Windows Store. The likes of DELL and Lenovo must be really p*$$*d off with MS at the moment as they are losing sales to Apple, Android and Chromebooks. Although they do make Chromebooks.
  8. @Quackers I don't have a problems with them having Macs but it seems a rather explensive way to run Windows. Does your SMT primarrily work in Windows on their Macs?
  9. Well I was well impressed with the Macbook Air. Close the lid (running on battery) with 20 apps open and 10 browser tabs come back a week later open the lid and everything is still there 1 second after opening the lid! Never experienced that before (sheltered life). I do dislike having to look up how to do a screenshot every time I need to do it and miss the minimise all command. What I object to is idiot SMT buying expensive mac Pro's and running Windows 7 on them not even trying to use. Mac OS X. I did try giving them Windows running as a VM in Parallels but "it was too hard". It's really not too hard. The reason I didnt use boot camp is trying to encrypt both OS's using filevault and bitlocker was not working. So I encrypted Mac OS X using filevault which includes the VM image as it is on the same volume. Worked really well.
  10. Me too. I got a Mac Book Air just to run configurator on. Could have used Device Enrolment Program (DEP) instead but heyho. I only had to create 30 odd Apple ID's and during that I wanted to rip out my own spleen. To clarify the previous (iOS8) individual Apple ID requirement was if you were using Managed Distribution to deploy apps using your MDM of choice. We use Lightspeed, support as good but they would save a lot of calls if the product was more intuitive in the first place. BTW if you use MDM without configurator you cannot control as much on the iPad as you need to "supervise" the iPad to use the additional restrictions. Restrictions that require you to supervise include -Disallow iCloud and iTunes account modification -Disallow erase all content and settings -Disallow iMessage -Disallow Airdrop -Disallow uninstalling apps If a kid sets a passcode it can seem scary but most MDMs allow you remove the passcode. so pretty essential to supervise shared iPads in school
  11. I seems to have to log back into edugeek every 20 mins or so. Is there an adjustable timeout setting somewhere?
  12. That's the one! Will post some pictures to show details of cables. this is what i payed in may 2013 Robust Headphone + Bag Hills Components 171-5705 50 £4.90 £245.00 Replacement Earpads 5 Pairs Hills Components 171-5706 10 £1.80 £18.00
  13. We used to use cheapie ones but every day I was replacing a pair here and there. The ones we had came with really long cables so I had to waste a cable tie every time a new set went out. I now use Hill Compoments "indestucatble" ones. They are all kept in a box and only come out when a teacher requests them. Also these hadphones come with a draw string bag which stops the headphone getting tangled in the box. It is sometimes a pain when the class havn't put them back in the bags themselves. Pros: Replacable rubber ear pads. You can order spares for a few pence from Hills. (never had to replace any of these tho as they are strong Cable is fabric covered and thick which stops chewing and breakages Each pair comes in it's own string pull frabric bag Cons: Surprisingly the 3.5mm plug on these are weak. The metal pins themselves bend and the centre pin drops out accasionally The cable brace around the plug is weak and some have become intermittant The volume control is too invisible. Kids dont realise the volume is turned down and complain they are not working all the time!! Our kids rip the bags too easily. Hills sell spares and the new batch seem stronger. So this issue may have been fixed. Overall i still like the Hills headphones but the issues are frustrating esp. the volume issue!! The "Califone" ones look ok but might still be chewable.
  14. Glad to see that Casio seem to be phasing out M3 screws etc. It wasn't meant to be a critism have also e-mailed these "feedback" points to a casio reseller who had Casio in for the day. Hence this prompted the post yesterday.
  15. Hi, I am thinking of creating a hyper-v cluster or hyper-v replication between 2 Proliant G6 servers. I will obviously need good bandwidth between our 2 main hyper-v hosts. They are in the same rack and both have spare NIC ports so can I just connect a network cable directly between the servers to get a 10GB link? I will still have connections via the switches. Can I do this without causing a network loop? Will turning on spanning tree protocol on the switches solve this? Can/should I give the spare NIC's an IP address in a different range as they are only connecting to each other via those NIC's?
  16. I would say I still think Casio Laser/LED lightsource projectors are worth the extra initial outlay for the future convienience and cost saving due to not having to change lamps and remove/clean out filters. Although you still have to clean the external vents with a brush or vacuum occasionally. Would recommend every 6 months at least.
  17. Zombie thread alert! I would have thought that the A130 (narrow slim design) was more prone to heat issues due to small size and smaller fans. The larger M130's have larger quieter fans and would be less thermally stressed. We had one XJM130 fail (would not power exit standby mode at all) and was reapired under warranty. There was also a note with the repair advsing not to use mounting screws longer than 10mm as long screws can hit the PCB underneath as the screw mount holes were (now fixed?) open. I would re-iterate that as Casio completely redesigned Projectors from the ground up there are many non-standard things about these projectors. Namely *Lens of possosite side to most projectors which makes retrofitting harder *smaller M3 mounting screws which are not included in some universal mounting kits (RA) *Unusual IR frequency used which can be blocked by IR smartboards *Clover leaf IEC connector (C5 rather than more comon C14)required. Makes retrofitting harder.
  18. Would like to know this also.
  19. HP proliant memory has to be populated in a particular order. See http://h22195.www2.hp.com/MemoryTool/Home/Legal
  20. This guest will be used as our SIMS server so guess i'll disable dynamic memory for good!
  21. Turning off dynamic memory had the effect I was expecting. -Memory Usage in guest changed to 10% from 97% -Allocated memory in hyper-v manager changed from 800MB to 8192MB If dynamic memoery is enabled you see the following warning "This virtual machine is configured with uniform memory access. Virtual machines configured with a large amount of memory or many virtial processors can often benefit from non-uniform memory access. Disable Dynamic Memory to allow non-uniform memory access"
  22. The allowcated memory 1606MB in hyper V is less than the startup RAM 4096MB !! Host View Guest View
  23. I have two physical servers bith with Windows Server 2012 R2 running hyper V guests. 1st server has had loads of VM's with no problems 2nd Server is newly installed, hyper V role newly added, created new 2012 R2 guest and allocated 4096 MB startup RAM. Guest is consuming all that RAM. changed strtup ram to 8192 MB it still consumes all the available RAM. But hyper V reports that is is using 895MB of RAM from the host's perspective. I am applying updates as I type to see if an update will fix the issue. Will try disabling dynamic memory next. EDIT Just to clarify. What was confusing me was that the guest was claiming it was using 8GB of RAM but hyper V manager was only assigning just above the minimum RAM. The guest was newly installed not doing anything. No matter how much startup RAM I gave it it consumed all of it but the assigned memory didn't change. Is this normal for dynamic memory?
  24. Eew! 1. why is ITV making me register!?! 2. Why would a picture of Ant and Dec incentivise me to register!?!
