While not helpful to join in with 'Mine works fine' I have to say I didn't even realise I shouldn't be using MDT/WDS for W11 - It just... works (?) Maybe it's because we extract the .wim file and use that instead of other options (?) If anyone wants to compare setups, happy to try and find version numbers etc.

My 2 cents on this topic; I approach it from a psychological perspective - when I first started in a new school the current manager warned me "There's too much vandalism here" and SLT were tired of every little thing being 'vandalism' I agree it was bad, he convinced them to install CCTV in the main suites, but the layout, BFL, quality of equipment etc. was not conducive to a 'vandalism free environment' Don't get me wrong you can never eliminate it, but you can reduce it - * Make sure all KB/Mice/Monitors are the same brand - Seems like a stupid suggestion, but it's a phycological thing, students are less likely to be the 'first' to damage something deliberately, once the first key goes, it's wild west time so it needs to be stamped out as soon as possible, like a fire * Make sure your speeds are up to scratch - As mentioned before, students who have to wait, are more likely to pick, laptops suffer a double if not triple penalty for this due to their being 'bumped' around and WIFI being turned off etc. * Give them a 'fake' hack - So we block games, hacks, the usual; but there’s always holes you can't patch - Maybe make these into a 'secret' that they can be naughty with, without actually causing any damage (unblockedgames.com etc.) And yes, you need to chase, chase, chase SLT and staff, but they must understand good behaviour (reporting damage) is rewarded with new kit and no penalty; damage is punished by having to sit with kids in detention or chase kids for payment - I take the line that the department pays first and foremost, then they reclaim the money from the student, it serves as a double whammy of getting the message across. Don't get me wrong of course, we still get vandalism and damage, but it's much less than it was (creeping up since covid) and the main issue we have atm is stealing the metal bar below the spacebar, so it wobbles around (still better than the spacebar itself) and we've taken to buying garden wire to fix these so as to reduce plastic waste. I find education helps too, if you have a student who is breaking off keys 'just because' remind them that the whole keyboard goes in the bin, then the ocean, then the sea turtles - you'd be amazed that genZ care so much about the environment most of them are mortified to find out they're indirectly killing wildlife. That or you play the exam card "How would you feel if your exam was ruined by the wrong letters?" etc.

Since the newer firmware you have to use a UNIFI NVR, which we have found to be... problematic

Sorry to Necro an old thread, but we are getting the same errors - So far a logoff and logon fixes it, but these are Controlled assesments so that's not going down well; Interesting theory on the profile cleanup, ours is supposed to clear them on each reboot, we use a couple of different methods; 1. Via the standard GPO 2. Via a custom PS script Not sure if it's either/both of these? Did your trick with the 'shared folder' work? ---- EDIT When manually removing profiles I use the following, but this isn't set automate anywhere; This one never worked!

Hi All, Though you can't get rid of it, you can use AppLocker to block it - Make sure you pick the right version though! the only thing holding me back from a full W11 rollout is students ability to 'show hidden files' which I can live with, but 'Show file extentions' is dumb - Yes I know about FSRM, but I prefer belt and braces....

Sorry to being back an old thread - But Windows 11 has a new explorer so my old tricks don't work; Has anyone tried these on W11? I'm going to next week and will post any updates.

I can confirm the fix worked for us - or at least no one has complained since....

So for some reason, this worked with the Office shortcuts, but not the other method - strange They have changed the start menu again, maybe you need a Start3.bin?

Hi All, Anyone had any luck customising the new File Explorer? It seems a few tricks that used to work, no longer do - so they can see hidden files, file extensions, map drives etc. It also seems 'rotating' a picture using it corrupts the original image and spits out a corrupted clone (boo) This atm is the only thing stopping me from rolling out to students - should I lock it down a more 'old fashioned' way? I'm even considering bringing back 'right click context menus' if I can.... Having trouble with googling between ‘classic’ explorer and W11 explorer

Hi All, I have an odd one - When working on W11 I created a quick policy to test some windows defender settings; it all went great, and I deleted the test policy to create and push out the actual policy. When the policy was deleted however, it seems to have not been deleted thoroughly and still tries to apply on startup for all domain machines (but only displays as the GUID) It hangs for about 30 seconds then goes. Here's the weird part, I cannot find it anywhere, not in SYSVOL, GP management, ASDI and it even replicates to new machines built after the deletion - Using a GPRESULT shows it in Components, but nowhere else. I'm kind of at a loss as to where it still exists - I first thought it was only stuck on machines, so I deleted it from [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions\ - But that only stopped it processing, it didn't remove it...

We had a weird bug when we moved IP ranges; our WDS refused to connect, despite being on and happy - Weirdly it didn't like 'Obtain IP from DHCP' so we set it to 'Use addresses from the following range' which are some garbled mess with no relation to the network.... then it worked a treat Also got caught off-guard with DHCP snooping, our switches refused to change IP range despite being on DHCP, but we couldn't update the setting without changing them all back to the original range, applying the setting, then changing them back, THEN applying the new DHCP snooping IP I love my job...
